I have been busy lately in the Beta Forum trying a acclimate myself to the changes (upgrades) that are soon to take place with ALL of the ProBoards accounts. Many things will remain the same, some changes I like others I'm not so thrilled with, but it will all happen (and probably take a bit of getting used to) within the next couple of months. There's not much I can do about most of the changes, and many of them will not even be noticed by "casual" users. I will attempt to keep as much as possible the "same" as we are familiar with how things work here. I'm just letting you know that there are some changes in our future. I will help out as much as I can if you have problems, but be aware that I will be learning along with you. As always, feel free to ask questions and make suggestions. If it's puzzling you, you're probably not the only one who's confused - just the first one to say something about it.
I'll warn you again, before the ultimate, unavoidable switch takes place.
BTW: I've done a little rearranging in the HUGH JACKMAN Category. Nothing has been deleted. A few new Boards are open and topics pertaining to those subjects have been moved. (If you notice something I missed, add a new post to the pertinent thread, and I will reassign it's position.) I hope this facilitates finding information about a particular HJ project.
And now, the PHOTOS - we all enjoy seeing pictures of Hugh,
BUT - - -
28 emails/PMs in few days have noted that HUGE photos on the board make reading posts difficult for many people, especially those using laptops, mobile, hand-held, portable, tablet devices and phones (and that's a LOT of people these days).
I have a "wide screen" monitor for my desktop and even there I have noticed the same problem (having to scroll sideways to read each line of text). It's annoying on my home computer and highly frustrating on my kindle.
If you want to share a large photo there are a number of options:
1. Upload it to your own photo account (i.e. Photobucket) and use their "Edit" function to make it a reasonable size for this Board. (I have used this method to edit posts and accommodate "too big" photos in the past but will not do it any more.)
2. Download it to your computer (if it is 1MB or less) and include it in your post as an "Attachment" so people can click on it and see the photo in a new tab or window.
[I've never used this option myself, but I'm going to test it with an old Peter Allen photo to see how it works.]
3. "Right click" on the photo at its origin, select "Copy Image Location" and post it as a URL
to lead others to the source of the picture. (This is what I have done with the recent "offenders" - they will remain available until/unless the original publisher moves or deletes them.)
4. Copy the address of the page where you found the photo and post it as a URL so everyone can see the same thing you did.
Many of us here are a good deal older than "personal" computers. We need to work together for the benefit of all to share and nurture our affection, admiration and passion for the people, places and things on this Forum. Please be considerate of fellow members (and our myriad guests) and try, as I do, to make this Board as "user friendly" as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued contributions.
