I'm still learning the ropes, but it looks like there are many possibilities here concerning the look and content of the board.
The Board itself is FREE, but after a two week initiation period the Host will put ads on our board. Other than a banner at the top of the page, I'm not quite sure what this means. I don't know if that's it, or if it's just the beginning. I'd like to wait out the trial period and see just how intrusive/obnoxious the ads are before we do anything.
It looks like any Registered Member can contribute to the "Ad Avoidance" fund by purchasing a "credit" for one dollar. It sounds as if $7 per month will keep the board ad-free. Once we see what these ads look like, it will be up to you to decide just how much it's worth to get rid of them.
As I get more familiar with the cosmetic "tools" available, we can discuss how we should alter the "look" of this place here.
All comments and suggestion are welcome and encouraged.

I hope you didn't take on a monster! Thank you so much for doing this. You've done an amazing job getting the board to this point. My 2 cents is that Im miss the red. I recognize that some who defected in the early days (before my time) call this board "the red board". So lets stay "the red board" if feasible. Oxana has a "blue board" I've come across on FB.
I totally agree with you about waiting to see how intrusive the ads are in the free version.

I played around with the "skins" a little last night. (Please remember that this is a work in progress.) I miss "The Red Board" too.
When I came here this morning it was RED (a bit too red), but as soon as I logged in, it switched back to the "default" blue look.
Has anyone else seen the RED?

Yes, I did, upon first accessing the board. When I logged it, just as with you, the red turned to blue. Weird.
I've noticed that other proboards have ads, which don't seem all that intrusive. Just my two cents.

The red isn't a very good red, I may change it back to blue. I experimented and mine has stayed red. I even did a restart on my computer after logging out of here. Came back, logged in and it's still red. The only thing I did that you may not have done was tell my computer to save the cookie from this site. So if you have a way to save cookies, that may be what you need to do. Otherwise, I don't know. |

I deleted my ProBoards cookies, restarted the computer - and everything still turns blue as soon as I login. I'll keep trying...

Maybe admin/mods have other options. Under skins I just have default and Red Board1. If they have a Red Board2 it isn't in my list. I think you misunderstood my last post I was talking about saving cookies. You have to save cookies for settings to stay the way you set them. Are we having fun yet?  |

Wow, that is a BRIGHT red! Hurts the eyes, yikes. When I log out I see the red, log in and it's blue. Can't figure out where a skins category is to set it for my personal taste, perhaps that only comes with the paid version. None of it all that important, the important thing is we've got a replacement site.
Has anyone accepted David's offer to point the old URL to this site?

There are lots of shades of RED - I'm still experimenting. I think this ("skin" option "Red Board 2") is close to the original Red Board color - before it was changed prior to Hugh's Back on Broadway show.
After you log in, >Profile, >Modify Profile -
You can scroll down to "Select Skin" and choose your color-combo preference.
If the majority agree on one "look" I will delete most of the "experiments" and leave just one other (probably the original, blue "default") option available.
Red Board 1 has an option called "gradient" while RB 2 is "solid" color. Do you notice this? Is there a preference?

I have a feeling that something you are able to do in 'admin' is changing what's available. Red Board2 just showed up in my list for the first time since I last checked it yesterday. It is showing up on my page with a gradient even though the gradient option doesn't show up on my skins list. It's a better red though. I think removing the gradient and keeping it the darker red would be good.

Go to your profile page, click on 'Modify Profile', scroll down to Account Preferences then scroll till you see 'select skin' the new one is called Testing 1. You may have to reconfirm your password then click on the bottom 'Modify Profile' button and it will save the new look. |

I went to Modify Profile and chose the Testing 1 skin. Now I have an interesting half red, half blue stripe. :o I like it.

Is it possible to include the feature which I loved on the old board where you clicked FIND
and were able to then click NEW SINCE YOUR LAST VISIT? With this feature I was able to be sure I didn't miss anything. I'm afraid I will miss some of the posts.

Once you sign in, "These are the most recent topics you have participated in:" will appear at the top of the page. I think I can increase/decrease the number of posts that will be highlighted in this manner. Of course these will ONLY be topics to which *you* have contributed. For something more general: On the main "Home" page, near the bottom, under Forum Statistics, you can click "View the 50 most recent posts of this forum." I can raise/lower that number. I think that's the closest thing we've got. |

There is a "Ranking" system here, which is interesting, but unnecessary IMHO.
If you would like to keep/use it, I think we should adjust the default "Ranks" in the system which are calculated according to quantity of posts.

I can adjust the numbers as well as the titles. I was thinking something more theater oriented - Gofer, Stagehand, Gaffer, Usher, Producer, Director, DIVA... looks like we can have up to ten.
There's also an Exalt/Smite function that's a sort of "thumbs up/down" anonymous comment.
All of this seems to be for fun and has no real effect on anything. I'm open to suggestions.

I agree a Ranking system seems unnecessary, but if you decide to go with it I like your titles.

I have noticed the ads are beginning to appear at top left and at the lower part of the screen however I don't feel they're too intrusive. There appears to be a mixture of ads including some locally specific, eg Australian. Now I am going to try and follow the leads to save the new look!!
