I remember that layout well. Hugb reminded me of Armand Assante in that Butch Cassidy shot. But as much as I liked the concept of that feature, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. All those iconic-type roles--those are the meaty roles he should have gotten during his young, breakout years. I know he doesn't strategize and does only what appeals to him, and I loved his stage performances, but I can't help but think he should have had a Pitt-Depp-Bale-Clooney caliber run on film during the past decade. For the most part, aside from the likes of THE FOUNTAIN and THE PRESTIGE (and maybe AUSTRALIA), his movie choices prevented that. Didn't some recent Oscar handicapper even question that Hugh was a major movie star? That annoyed me--but also, unfortunately, it's not entirely baseless. I'm hopeful that LES MIZ and PRISONERS will finally lift him to a firmly entrenched, unquestionable spot on that A-list.

Mamaleh, Have to agree with you. He is an incredible actor and I've questioned his choices and wondered if personal loyalties hadn't crippled his early career. One bright spot. Now that he is aging out of the "pretty boy" image, I hope that after Les Mis he will be offered more serious roles. Not that I want it remade since it is perfect, but can you imagine him as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird? That is the level of film he should be offered now.

Nevaeh, Thank you for that wonderful spread. I think they share more than just being great actors. Peck's Wiki reads like a love letter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Peck His commitment as husband, father, co-worker, and charitable ambassador throughout his long life were almost legendary.

In September 2003, Vogue featured a large spread ( photos and full-length article) on Hugh Jackman re his debut on Broadway. The article was written by one of the top editors of Vogue and I remember her mentioning how Hugh reminds her so much of Gregory Peck. I fully agreed with what I read...and thought it would have been nice if Hugh could remake ROMAN HOLIDAY, one of my favorites of Peck's movies when he was younger. At that time, Hugh was only 35! Except that he would have to find his own Audrey Hepburn.
They both share classic leading men looks and both have this faint patrician air ( Hugh in Kate and Leopold). Had Hugh been acting at the time of Gregory Peck, there would have been a surfeit of excellent roles available to him. I am not that keen on the kind of scripts we now see translated on screen. But I am happy that Les Miserables seems to fit the bill and that no other actor could have bested Hugh in the role. He portrays a peasant here, but it is also a story where we see a physical and moral transformation in Valjean. In the end, Valjean starts to look almost patrician!

Jo, Hugh is about the right age to do something along the line of Arabesque and he's never really had a good Spy/Adventure mystery role. There must be an up and coming Sophia Lauren out there somewhere.

Jamie, you don't know how many times I've thought he'd be absolutely fantastic in a biopic of Gregory Peck's life!! And yes, he'd be amazing as Atticus Finch! Can totally picture it! That comparison photo spread is amazing! Thank you for posting those and also for the Wikipedia link nevaeh & Jamie. Count me among the fans of both who would love to see Hugh do any of the wonderful roles played by Gregory Peck. Not to mention working with female co-stars of the caliber that Peck had. I hope if any of those great films are going to be remade, that they don't come up for filming till after 2014. Hugh certainly has his plate full till then. If someone were to remake one of those films I think Hugh would be a shoe-in to be cast once Les Miserables and Prisoners have been seen. Sue

I'm so glad you enjoyed the photo comparison! I agree totally in that both Gregory Peck and Hugh share classic leading man looks and have that debonair gentlemanly air about them. Another actor I love from that era is Cary Grant. Adore him. Even Grant's daughter commented when a journalist reported, "Cary Grant is gone and no other actor today compares,.." Jennifer Grant responded, "Hugh Jackman, a little bit. Other than that I can't think of anyone."www.silive.com/entertainment/tvfilm/index.ssf/2011/05/cary_grants_daughter_jennifer.htmlAnd when James Mangold directed Hugh in "Kate and Leopold" he said this, "Hugh is an amazing actor and entirely unique in this day and age. He just has the essence of great movie stars of the past. There are times you can see Errol Flynn or Cary Grant in him."movies.about.com/library/weekly/aa121201a.htmJo, I so agree with you on the kinds of scripts we have now as compared to these wonderful classic film scripts of the past. There was such quality writing back then when a writer focused more on developing great in-depth characters. Now, the focus is more on sensationalism and special effects. I so hope Hugh begins to focus more on roles now that really showcase his talent (such as "Prisoners") instead of taking time to film things like "Movie 43" It seems, so far, he's starting to head that route.

I picked up a copy of Best Life at Wal-Mart today. The photos are beautiful! I don't have a scanner or I would scan them for everyone. Hopefully they'll pop up somewhere. I haven't had a chance to read the article yet, though.
