Sounds like you would also like to get back to work. Where will you go when the strikes end?

Within weeks of the strikes ending we will be back in the United Kingdom shooting the second half of Deadpool.

While there have been media speculations that this movie will resume filming only on January 1, Shawn's reply suggests that within weeks from end of strikes, they will resume filming. Given that there seems to be a more optimistic expectation that a deal with strikers will be arrived at soon, they could restart filming much earlier than Jan 1.

If the production design creatives and crew are not covered by SAG-AFTRA, maybe they are now preparing for the resumption of filming?

I wonder if Hugh meeting with Jess Platt in LA was to start preparations on his dialog requirements...so he can be ready for filming almost immediately? Hugh has been adopting the Wolverine accent since the first XMen ( although Jess started working with him since only Someone Like You) -- and he has lived in America for about 15 years ( give or take a year or so) -- he probably does not need as much relearning of the accent, even if he has retained a softer Australian accent in his daily speech?


I checked Box Office Mojo ( the most reliable source on release schedules) - and this movie is still slated for release on May 3, 2024. Captain America which was rumored to take the place of Deadpool-Wolverine is still slated for the July release on a limited basis.

The promo planning is probably already underway now.

If I recall right - didnt Shawn say in an earlier interview that they will only take a month or so for the rest of filming? Assuming they can complete it by third week of December, they may have a Christmas break. The Edit team will likely start the rest of their work almost immediately. Presumably they have completed the EDIT work & CGI's/Special Effects to support the filming-completed scenes? I am also assuming the film scoring has already started and applied to the completed parts?

This kind of stress has never happened before

But let's cross our fingers!

I’m now making Deadpool 3, the production of which was paused because of the actors’ strike. For one key scene in the movie, I said to my stunt and action team, “Guys, this is the Jedi moment.” I pulled up that scene of Vader and Luke on my phone and restudied how it was photographed, how it was blocked, the framing, the tempo. The keen Star Wars fan will see the shot in my Deadpool movie that was inspired by a moment that I saw in a theater decades ago. That’s a forever memory. And that’s a treasure.

*Shawn is going to direct a Star Wars movie after this one.
*Star Wars is owned by Disney - so no issue about paying homage to one of their classic movies.

The key to reinvigorating Marvel may lie with the superhero arsenal that Disney acquired during its 2019 purchase of 21st Century Fox. That deal brought several blue-chip heroes, such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, back under the studio’s control. Already fans are geeking out about next year’s “Deadpool 3,” which unites Ryan Reynolds’ merc with a mouth with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and a reboot of “Fantastic Four” slated for 2025. As a bonus, the Fox additions give Feige an opportunity to reimagine the “X-Men” franchise, the very property he cut his teeth on as a young executive at Lauren Shuler Donner’s production company. Now that the WGA strike is in the rearview mirror, Marvel has started talking to writers about bringing the X-Men into the MCU fold.

While Feige recalibrates, the rest of the industry is anxiously hoping that Marvel’s best days are not behind it.

“Writing the Marvel obituary would be ill-advised,” says Jason Squire, professor emeritus at USC School of Cinematic Arts and host of “The Movie Business Podcast.” “Kevin Feige is the Babe Ruth of movie executives, and Marvel has the most profitable track record in movie history. No question.”

What was providential was the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It is doubtful that Deadpool 3 without Wolverine would have fans overly-excited over it. Deadpool 2 was not was well-received and Ryan was having difficulty convincing Marvel & Disney that it would be worth filming the third movie in the trilogy... Until, one day Hugh Jackman decided he wanted to be Wolverine again. If you check social media & film blog sites, it is all about Wolverine ( the day his return announcment broke the internet/ the reaction to his yellow-and-blue costume/ the possibility of Wolverine/Jackman leading SECRET WARS, etc.

Looks like they're pulling a Deadpool 3. I don't want Hugh Jackman back and I definitely don't want RDJ back. This basically invalidates 2 of the greatest send offs in comic book movie history and all just for fan service.

Still many untold stories of Wolverine - his comicbooks proved popular for many decades. Even if his journey's end was seen in LOGAN, no inconsistency if we look back at the untold stories. Fortunately, we have an exceptional actor in HughJackman to tell us those other stories 👏

I don't see why there are complaints -- unless they want another actor in the role? But what is wrong if in the case of someone who has passed on, some episodes in his past life are told because they are good storytelling.

Like in the case of Abraham Lincoln, we all know that he was assassinated by Booth ( which story was marked in history books and probably past movies)... but why was there a slice of his life as president told in the movie LINCOLN with DDLewis?

Why express your annoyance in public - as if you are sounding petty about it. Don't watch the new movie! Period!!

He is also excellent on stage ( his background is the theatre). Not just musical theatre but also in dramatic theatre (1 of his college majors). He was excellent in a powerful play on Bway called Steady Rain, co-starring D.Craig, re rogue cops into whose life tragedies fell.

I attached the photo so he can see that Hugh can be equally good with other powerful dramas!

The lead negotiators for SAG-AFTRA and the studios are set to meet later today in what could be the final phase to sealing a new deal and the end to the 117-day actors guild strike.

With the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA having achieved a breakthrough late last night on the contentious topic of AI, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and AMPTP president Carol Lombardini are scheduled to talk this afternoon. “We are very close,” a guild source told Deadline. “Not done yet, but very close with strong protection language in place,” the source added of AI guardrails long sought by the guild even before they went on strike in mid-July.


SAG-AFTRA & Studio CEOs End Tonight’s Talks With No Deal; More Negotiations In Works For Tuesday – Update
One studio source called a deal today “hopeful” while another giddy insider beamed “It’s going to happen.”

After SAG-AFTRA delivered its response on November 6 to the AMPTP’s so-called “last, best and final offer” of late last week, the parties got together for a Zoom meeting yesterday. Going late into the night, that meeting saw the CEO Gang of Four of Disney’s Bob Iger, Warner Bros Discovery’s David Zaslav, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos and NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley participating again. Unlike past such gatherings, the studio chiefs were eventually amenable to altering their latest proposal on AI to provide more project specific protections and compensations to performers, we hear.

Whether that shift is enough to bring an end to the bitter and costly six months of strike that have shut Hollywood down, cost the California economy $67.5 billion and seen 45,000 entertainment jobs disappear will likely be decided in the meeting between Crabtree-Ireland and Lombardini today.

“It’s all down to Duncan and Carol and smoothing out the AI language,” an insider declared. Also on the table is an agreement on minimum rates. SAG-AFTRA had wanted an 11% bump, the studios eventually offered 7% – which is better than what the WGA got in their strike ending deal back in September. The guild has since moved its ask to around 9% and the two sides are said to be settling somewhere around 8%, we hear.

Described by studio sources as “historic,” for what that’s worth, the November 3 offer from the AMPTP additionally includes, but is not limited to, a multi-decade wage increase, and a 100% raise in performance compensation bonuses for big-budget streaming series and movies that meet certain thresholds. The guild is said to have “issues” with those benchmarks, seeing them as too high to be meaningful to many of their members.

Neither the AMPTP nor SAG-AFTRA today responded to Deadline’s request for comment. If and when they do, we will update. Worth noting, both WBD and Disney have Q4 earnings results out later this week and an end to the strike would not be unwelcome on Wall Street, if you know what we mean?

As the industry waits with baited breath, Hollywood is primed to resume production of movies and TV series around the globe, to get a 2024 feature slate and TV schedule back on track.

While there were gripes from studio executives last night after the guild’s response to the studio’s “last, best, and final offer,” it turns out that both sides were closer than anticipated as they went over contract terms into the night. One exec was up in arms over the guild’s ask to have actors’ approval of their digital selves, and the union’s OK on every use of AI in addition to a digital performer. “Not how movies are made!” However, we’ll see how both sides come to terms when the dust finally settles on AI rights and streaming revenue residuals.

Still, pickets were up and SAG-AFTRA members and their allies were out on the streets of NYC and LA today.

The Strike Is Over! SAG-AFTRA & Studios Reach Deal On New Three-Year Contract

After 118 days of the actors guild being out on strike, SAG-AFTRA and the studios have reached a tentative deal on a new contract that could see Hollywood up and running again within weeks.

The strike will be over as of 12:01 am PT November 9, we hear. Culminating a very dramatic day of studio earnings results and deadlines, the actors guild’s 17-member negotiating committee unanimously voted to recommend a tentative agreement to the SAG-AFTRA board.

Coming just less than a month after Writers Guild members overwhelmingly ratified their own agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, SAG-AFTRA’s deal is the culmination of the latest round of renewed negotiations that began October 24. Indicating the seriousness and stakes of the negotiations, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Disney’s Bob Iger, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley and Warner Bros Discovery’s David Zaslav frequently directly participated in the talks.

The tentative agreement follows the studios responding on November 3 to the guild’s last comprehensive counter with a self-described “historic” package. That was succeeded less than 24 hours later by an expanded group of studio leaders — including execs from Paramount, Amazon, Apple and more — joining the Gang of Four to brief SAG-AFTRA on the AMPTP’s new offer, which was said to include big gains in wages and bonuses as well as sweeping AI protections.

“We didn’t just come toward you, we came all the way to you,” Sarandos told guild leaders Saturday before SAG-AFTRA brass began digging into the fine print. Further talks between the two sides began earlier this week as the guild poured over the studios’ latest set of proposals.


Now, if all goes as planned, eligible members of the 160,000-strong actors guild will vote soon to ratify the new agreement. Also, if things move like they did with the WGA in late September, we could see SAG-AFTRA end its strike before the ratification vote is completed to get people back to work sooner and production restarted quickly.

Exposing many of the shifts and divisions in the industry over the past decade, today’s tentative agreement comes at the end of a long road filled with diversions and potholes.

Overall, the six months of Hollywood strikes is estimated to have cost the Southern California economy more than $6.5 billion and 45,000 entertainment industry jobs after production ground to a halt with the WGA hitting the picket lines in early May and SAG-AFTRA following in mid-July. On an individual level, the labor action garnered passionate unity among guild members. At the same time, a fact not lost on the studios and their strategy, many guild members have suffered crippling financial hardship, as have below-the-line workers, going months without work.



After calling the strike July 14, it took the guild and the studio CEOs’ Gang of Four around 80 days before their first official face-to-face talks at SAG-AFTRA headquarters on Wilshire Boulevard. For all the optimism and momentum coming out of the completed WGA deal, those new deliberations between SAG-AFTRA and the studios that began October 2 blew apart on October 11, with the AMPTP leaving negotiations early after the guild tabled an alternative to its contentious revenue-sharing proposal. A few hours later, expecting more scheduled talks the next day, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland received a call saying deliberations were “suspended.”

“Last night, they introduced a levy on subscribers on top of [other] areas,” Sarandos said the next day at an industry conference, calling the proposal a “bridge too far” and blaming the guild for the talks ending. Later, SAG-AFTRA accused the studios of “bully tactics” and using the “same failed strategy they tried to inflict on the WGA.”

On October 18, after Netflix stated in its Q3 earnings report that talks were “ongoing” and Sarandos said the guild “really broke our momentum” towards a deal, Crabtree-Ireland called BS. “The best way to reach a deal and end this strike is for him and the other CEOs to end their walkout from the bargaining table and resume negotiations,” the SAG-AFTRA national director and chief negotiator told Deadline. “We have been and remain ready to continue talks – every day.”

After an appreciated but DOA bid by George Clooney and other A-listers to intervene in getting talks restarted, it looked like the actors strike would pass the 100-day milestone with no end in sight. Then, on October 21 , after Drescher hit out at the “AMPTPs strategy of non-negotiation” and “a blatant propaganda attempt to discredit union leadership and divide our solidarity,” Bob Iger made a call to Crabtree-Ireland and asked to start a new round of talks.

At 3 p.m. PT on the strike’s 100th day, SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP put out a joint statement that they were heading back to the bargaining table on October 24 at the guild’s headquarters. That first day of negotiations between the parties was “not great,” according to a well-positioned source. As the studios put forth a new offer they hoped would end the stalemate over “success-based compensation,” the guild proved unmoved, but also open to further discussion.

Although the parties had agreed to meet on October 25, the guild asked that morning to take the day to go over the studios’ proposal of increased bonuses based on the success of streaming shows and movies and a further rise in minimum rates. “It’s a step in the right direction and the negotiating committee is taking the time to do a deep review,” a guild source told Deadline.

The two sides sat down again face-to-face around noon on October 26 with Crabtree-Ireland telling Deadline he was “cautiously optimistic” about deliberations with the studios. The guild slide across the table a self-described “comprehensive counter” that attempted to move the two sides closer together, sources said. As open letters from both supportive and impatient guild members flew around town, the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee were back in active talks on October 27. With both sides taking October 30 to be “working independently,” virtual deliberations bled into the weekend with the parties trying to bridge their differences.

On Halloween and in the early days of November, the parties met again. As the parties got “closer and closer,” as a guild source told Deadline, on issues, Crabtree-Ireland and Lombardini continued conferring directly, with breakout groups of lawyers and other specialists huddled in search of a deal – successfully we now know. Followed by two days of consultation by the guild, the November 3 delivery of the studios’ response to the guild’s latest counter and SAG-AFTRA’s November 6 counter response saw the two sides find an AI compromise and began moving things into what we now know was the final phase.

It took an unexpected strike by actors guild (who many studios execs thought were bluffing despite an overwhelming strike authorization mandate), a lot of moving pieces, guild solidarity, and some hard negotiating sessions to get there.


The actors union joined the WGA on the picket lines when it went on strike July 14, creating Hollywood’s first joint strike in more than 60 years. There were a lot of hot summer days when the labor battle remained at a stalemate.

But things shifted after Labor Day. The WGA reached a deal with the AMPTP on September 24 after five months on the picket lines and a final five intense days of deliberations that included the CEO Gang of Four for most of those last sessions. The WGA leadership approved the tentative agreement and ended the strike at 12:01 a.m. PT on September 27. WGA members ratified the deal by a wide margin October 9.

As exclusively reported by Deadline on September 26, the studios and SAG-AFTRA intended to ride the wave of the WGA deal to set meetings within a week or so on their own talks. However, as the goodwill of the WGA’s successful negotiations faded into bitter public call-outs from leaders on both sides, many feared, even with a new round of talks, the actors strike could last well into the holidays, ruining any chance at a partial broadcast networks season and hobbling the 2024 movie slate.

That catastrophe seems to have been averted now.
