HughJackman's singing are for stage musicals (where he has to be heard up to the last balcony row) or in film musicals where strong messages in song are common.
This song from TheBoyFromOz is a ballad but was performed at the Imperial theatre on Bway.

In Les Miserables, HughJackman sings a lullaby to his newly-adopted daughter. This was Valjean's second epiphany expressed in the discovery of love through little Cosette. The song Suddenly was partly sung at the Oscars as a nominated song.

Best soft-tones singing I've ever heard him sing was from a private party for his newly-born daughter. He sang that part from Carousel's famous Soliloquy when he realizes he could have a daughter instead of a son. Starts with "my little girl..."

I never thought Hugh could sing such a dramatic and emotional song like "THIS IS THE MOMENT" (from Jekyll & Hyde) in probably the largest crowd he has ever sung to --

Then... he was discovered by London audiences first, singing one of his signature songs at a royal command performance concert tribute to Cameron Mackintosh...before Oklahoma! actually opened for its revival by the Royal National Theatre.





Then putting in more acting emphasis in the actual revival itself, he sings "Oh What A Beautiful Morning".

One of his most celebrated singing and acting moments on film was Valjean's Soliloquy from the film adaptation of LES MISERABLES.

During the filming of the movie, a big group of us Les Mis fans gathered on the defunct IMDB discussion board to monitor and follow the development of the film ( from audition to the Oscars). One who joined us was the son of two actors themselves who are both voting members of the AMPAS (Oscars) and the BAFTA. He shared that sometimes, his parents would ask him to sit for them for the special screenings of nominated shows prior to voting. Les Miserables was one such movie for him. He said that he will fill his parents voting forms with the name of Hugh Jackman for Best Actor. And were he to be asked what Jackman's OSCAR moment is -- he said he will cite "Valjean's Soliloquy"!

In this interpretation, Hugh emphasizes the emotions that went through him as he received the grace of redemption,,, and the forming of his resolve to become a person with humility and kindness to his fellowmen!

His 2009 Oscars Opening Number will always be remembered as one of the Oscars best opening ceremonies. He combines singing, dancing, comedic acting, & character/film assassinations (lol) in this memorable less-than-10 minutes of supreme performance!




Hey, if you pay enough attention -- at some point, he reprises his "This Is The Moment" singing in the short " These are the Oscars... and this is my dream " - LOL!

Btw, someone said that the finale lyrics " I am Wolverineeeeeeeeeeee" has a separate fanbase

The emphasis here is dance and acting ( miming musical instruments)..and using loads of charisma & a rousing song to beguile the River City kids to form a band ( while it is the parents who become more excited at the propect of seeing their "musically-talented" kids show off their talent )

They sing and dance (lol) to " Seventy Six Trombones" at the challenge pitched by The Music Man

Being an exceptional performer, Hugh Jackman has been asked to host the Tony's 4 times, on top of his hosting the Oscars in 2009. In 2005, he performed this long number with songs picked from many stage hits.

Sometime in 2004, rumors were strong that Barbra was in talks with Andrew Lloyd Webber for the film adaptation of the musicalized version of SUNSET BOULEVARD. Rumor was that she wanted only Hugh Jackman to reprise his Joe Gillis intepretation. But talks bogged down when ALW would not give in to her condition that she be given creative control ( she wanted to direct the movie).

A pity - that would have been a classic dramatic musical, with the best casting as leads!
