I first heard the name of Honey Badger as used by F-1 racing driver Australian Daniel Ricciardo to denote his quality of "boldness & determination" ( the quality of a honey badger - supposedly the most fearless animal).

Re above -- it seems they decided to refer to "Wolverine" as The Honey Badger as well.

EXCLUSIVE: As Deadpool & Wolverine tracks huge ahead of its July 26 release and looms as a summer box office savior, we can reveal that director Shawn Levy is the top choice and is having early conversations to direct another Marvel Studios pic — one that potentially could be the next Avengers movie.

Deadline hears that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources add that he has not given an answer on whether he would come aboard, and the studio is still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.



We can’t say for sure that Levy will take the job; he expects to be heavily involved as a director and executive producer of the final season of Netflix’s signature series Stranger Things, and there is also a Star Wars film in his future. Still, the prospect of Levy steering the next Avengers makes a helluva lot of sense as Marvel boss Kevin Feige continues to sort out the next iteration of his superhero empire.

There have been four Avengers blockbusters, two directed by Joss Whedon (the $1.5 billion-grossing The Avengers in 2012 and $1.4 billion for the first sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron) and two by Joe and Anthony Russo (the $2.05 billion-grossing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame). Endgame‘s $2.8 billion global cume made it the highest-grossing film of all time upon its release in 2019 until rereleases pushed James Cameron’s original Avatar to $2.9 billion.

Even with no director set and the script only recently coming in, Marvel has been working hard in recent months to pull this together so shooting can begin next year on one of Marvel’s largest productions to date. Sources close to both the project say more than 60 MCU characters could reprise their roles, including everyone from Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Benedict Cumberbatch to Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu and Karen Gillian. Unlike the first four films in which there was a core group that consisted of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Hemsworth and Ruffalo, many of the characters in this film would have equal footing, making it more of an ensemble feature instead of a handful of characters leading the team.

Plot details are unknown, and following Jonathan Majors’ exit from the MCU as Kang following his reckless assault conviction in December, it is unknown who the central villain would be, or if the film could potentially include multiple antagonists.

The Avengers project is another huge swing for Marvel given the projects it will impact going forward. But in Levy they would have a director with an enviable track record of hits, many on a tentpole level, which the MCU demands. Levy’s credits as director range from the Night at the Museum films to The Pink Panther, Big Fat Liar, Date Night, Real Steel, Free Guy, The Adam Project and the Steven Knight-created series All The Light We Cannot See.

As producer at 21 Laps, Levy’s results are even more extensive, including Stranger Things.

The Avengers may be assembling for Shawn Levy.

Levy, who is busy putting the final touches on Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, is in contention for the film and may be the studio’s choice to direct the next Avengers film.

The development is characterized as very early. Sources say Marvel and Levy are talking about the project and that the studio gave the latest script to the filmmaker late last week. But sources also say that other filmmakers are in the mix for the high-profile gig.


There is reason for some caution. Marvel previously — and quietly — offered the directing gig to Levy in mid-March, but at that point, the filmmaker turned it down. Scheduling was the concern at the time, as Levy is moving from various duties on Deadpool & Wolverine, which opens July 26, to the last season of Stranger Things. He is due to direct two episodes of the Netflix series, and has other exec producer duties on the show, which would take him into next year.

Originally that timetable didn’t work for Marvel, but sources say the studio has pushed the film by several months, opening the door of opportunity.

The fact that Marvel has re-engaged with Levy shows how eager the studio is to collaborate with him again and how well Deadpool & Wolverine seems to have gone for both the studio and the filmmaker.

Loki creator Michael Waldron wrote the recent drafts of script for the project, which would be the fifth Avengers movie. It was at one point subtitled Kang Dynasty, but that was before Marvel parted ways with actor Jonathan Majors, who was playing the villain. Destin Daniel Cretton previously was going to direct Kang, but departed in November.

It's official: Deadpool & Wolverine has been rated R. This is no surprise, given that the rating had been promised by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.

Officially, Deadpool & Wolverine is rated R for "strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references." While Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both R-rated, Deadpool & Wolverine is the first to be given the rating for "gore," suggesting this new film will be much bloodier than the others. The rating comes in ahead of the movie's release in theaters in July.



This makes history as Deadpool & Wolverine is the first film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be rated R. It was expected, however, as Feige has addressed the mature rating for the film on multiple occasions. At CinemaCon in April, he said that the movie is "f***ing awesome" and reaffirmed, "It's R-rated." Director Shawn Levy has also teased that the film earns its R-rating, and he shared how Feige and Co. at Marvel Studios had never given the team any restrictions on how far they could push the envelope.


"We were clear from the get-go," Levy told Fandango. "We said, 'Well, the three of us [Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman] are going to do this and we've got to be truthful to the tone of a Deadpool movie.' That means we're not softening the edges. We're going to be audacious and funny and edgy, the way I know I, as a fan, want from Logan and from Wade Wilson."



The director continued, "I have to say, every time Ryan, Hugh, and I went in expecting pushback, we got support from Kevin, from everyone at Disney. They have trusted us and allowed us to do the version of Deadpool & Wolverine that we feel is best."

It seems clear that there will not be a lack of violence in Deadpool & Wolverine, so this probably won't be a movie to watch for the squeamish. The film follows Deadpool and Logan becoming unlikely allies as they're faced with a multiversal threat in the form of Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin. Because of the multiverse aspect, it is expected that there will be many major cameos in the film, with pop star Taylor Swift among the most heavily rumored.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.

There is a report on Hollywood Reporter on the box office slowing down, mainly due to the impact of the writers and actors strike.

One of the movies for the summer expected to revive the theatrical business in a big way... would be DEADPOOL&WOLVERINE. There was a strike-driven delay in filming, but it will still be released during the summer.

I wonder - could this scene be from Deadpoo&Wolverine? I can't seem to identify it. Usually, I would relate it to the hair & facial hair & his costume.




*Costume - the vest&jeans -- that would make it from the Fox franchise.

*Hair - but it is not the hairstyle from XMen1/2/3

*Future Past - did he wear the tank top here? Also, he had tinge of gray in his hair & beard then

*Trilogy - Origins (he had best hairstyle there - not this one)/ Could this be from The Wolverine?/ Definitely not Logan.


Hair is mussed like in Deadpool&Wolverine. But the scene does not suggest that this is from that movie... And will he wear the tanktop here?
