Favourite Hugh Film & Why?
This is a fairly quiet place and there's a fair bit of negativity around lovely Hugh so I thought why not try and have a bit of positivity and a nice chat about our favourite Hugh films!
So I'd love to know what is your favourite Hugh film and what about it or Hugh's performance made it stand out the most for you?
My choice would have to be Logan.
I discovered Hugh because I watched the X Men cartoon as a kid and I was looking forward to seeing a movie about those characters. I had transitioned into reading the comics and Wolverine was a favourite. At one time, I remember having a comic that broke the news of Dougray Scott getting the role of Wolverine in X-Men. But of course, that never happened in the end.
While I don't watch Logan that much because it's a bit of a bleak film, Hugh's performance is so great in it and it's such a fitting end for that character. It was the first time I'd ever gone to the cinema solo (repeated with Deadpool & Wolverine- only for you, Hugh Jackman). It also has one of the greatest talkshow interviews with Hugh and Patrick Stewart on The Graham Norton Show with the surprise apperance of Ian McKellen. It's such a fun interview.

I watched this so long ago that I can't remember it well, but I believe Liev is a co-star in this as well, right?

Kate & Leopold is so cute! Also Paperback Hero, another early romcom he did (I can only find it on Youtube and it's not great video quality, sadly. Wish someone would release it officially for streaming!)

Van Helsing with Hugh forever and ever. Wish there was a sequel.

I'd say Prisoners. It's bleak and very dark but it shows what a genuinely great actor he is.

This is a great idea 💛
I kind of don't mind that this sub is a little quiet, as it seems to mean that (aside from a few bots) there's only positivity here. His official socials get a lot of love from fans, but also lots of random people stumbling onto them to leave weird comments or gossip about rumours. This feels like a friendlier space! Definitely agree with starting some good chats here.
Choosing a favourite Hugh movie is really hard, though 😅 If I just want to watch something fun that leaves me feeling better about life afterwards, it's got to be Eddie the Eagle or Real Steel (huh, I just realised that in both of them, Hugh plays a character who's been through the emotional wringer in life and is initially reluctant to help the person who needs them most, but then comes around... which is also the plot of Logan! Hmm... now I kind of want to analyse all his movies for this theme! 😄)
I love all of his X-Men movies (the screwed-up version of Deadpool in Origins pains me, lol, but there's still a lot to like in the movie). Logan breaks my heart every time I watch it, but it's brilliant. Days of Future Past is also incredible. Absolutely loved the latest one (as you might guess from my username!) Ryan and Hugh together are hilarious. I don't regret the umpteen hours I've spent watching interviews with them both since the movie came out this year!
Musical Hugh has my heart and I'm currently obsessing over Oklahoma! (there's a three-hour recording of a live show from 1998 on Prime and if anyone here hasn't seen it yet, go watch it!! Hugh as Curly is just adorable and the whole production is amazing.) The Greatest Showman is one of my comfort movies and I listen to the soundtrack a lot. Les Mis makes me cry every time, but in a good way.
The Son made me cry in a "I need to prioritise booking a therapy session" kind of way, but I was stunned by Hugh's acting. Same for Prisoners.
I don't think I answered your question properly, sorry! I hope me rambling happily about his movies is some positive content anyway! ☺️

I discovered him through X men, I was 15 and comic obsessed (I had dyed my hair like rogue at the time). But I also love musicals, and was at theatre school at the same time too, so was thrilled he’d done Oklahoma!
There’s a lot I haven’t caught up on, but I’ve seen/own all the x men titles, and greatest Showman is one of my comfort films (and luckily my husbands too - he’s so tolerant haha). I also listen to that a lot, it’s been in the car cd player for three months now, but the songs are pure dopamine to me. I can’t be sad listening to that.
Recently I saw Scoop (cute movie) and Deception, and I’m working my way around other titles I’ve missed over the years. The one that surprises me most is that I have not yet seen Les Mis - considering I love the musical. I have the dvd, I just haven’t sat and watched it!
This is because I hyperfixate and what I fixate on rotates because to be honest I just like too much stuff/too many actors, and acting/film/theatre in general - Hugh is back in focus since the Deadpool Wolverine film started to be advertised - just prior to that it was David Tennant and we watched Dr Who and good omens for a year 😆

I'd have to say Oklahoma! It's one of my favorite musicals in the first place and seeing how Hugh did the part of Curly always makes me smile. Either that or X2, but I definitely prefer Oklahoma!
It looks like that like the range of his talent - the preferences are for his many different genres.
Interesting that the very first movie in which Hugh Jackman is said to have shown his strong dramatic talent & versatility, The Fountain, has not been mentioned. Hugh himself has said that it is a favorite with him - it was a very exhausting film for him to make and drained him.
Which ones are your favorites?
