Kearran Giovanni, who is now moving to TV work for a season, talks about Hugh -- www.starpulse.com/news/Brittany_Frederick/2012/08/27/kearran_giovanni_talks_major_crimes_beQuote: >>>In addition to acting, Giovanni was a dancer and a gymnast "for a long time," and has a theater background that includes having worked with Tony winner Hugh Jackman in his recent one-man show Back on Broadway. "It was like a rock concert," she said of the experience. "It was just a handful of us."
She also has nothing but praise for Jackman: "He's pretty dreamy, and he's the most accessible, down-to-earth, normal guy. If there's anyone who doesn't realize their stardom, it's him. He cares about everyone. He knew everyone by their first name and took the time to get to know everyone."
Giovanni may be returning to theatre in the future, this time alongside Dexter star Michael C. Hall in a stage adaptation of the film Big Fish as Josephine, played in the movie by Marion Cotillard. Nothing is set in stone just yet. "We will see. It'll depend on the scheduling, if we do a second season [of Major Crimes]," she explained, though she's excited at the possibility. "The music is wonderful. The show's like nothing Broadway's ever seen."
As far as her own viewing habits, "Right now, I'm really into The Newsroom. It's nail-biting. It's one of those shows that you feel like you want to be friends with everyone in the show. I love Parenthood. Up All Night I love. Christina [Applegate] and I did a Broadway show together [Sweet Charity]."<<<I guess she meant that BoB had the atmosphere of a rock concert - with the audience immensely enjoying the show as much as the performers had a great time onstage themselves ;D Wasn't Hugh approached for BIG FISH originally? I had seen Sweet Charity - so I guess Back On Broadway was my second show to see Kearran. Jo

I'm guessing that Hugh ultimately had to choose between HOUDINI over BIG FISH. and decided on the former. I remember asking him after a San Fran show about the progress of BIG FISH. He seemed to be excited about it and loved that I described the movie, a favorite of mine, as "whimsical." Perhaps it was too slow aborning for him, even given HOUDINI's protracted process? I must say, I was excited, too, about the prospect of his doing BIG FISH. I just hope that HOUDINI does come to be, is brilliant and makes optimal use of Hugh's talents.

Some details on BIG FISH, from late last year -- www.playbill.com/news/article/156186-Musical-Big-Fish-Will-Swim-Onto-Broadway-in-2013-NYC-Reading-Is-ImminentWhen was Hugh linked to BIG FISH? It must have been in early to mid- 2011 -- but was the show ready then? The article says the show was originally intended for a spring 2012 opening ( now moved to spring 2013). But even if BIG FISH could have opened in spring 2012, maybe Hugh was already weighing the option of targetting the Valjean role then? By early May 2011 ( San Francisco), he had already mentioned in press interviews about his interest in the Valjean role. Also, if I recall right, Aaron Sorkin was already seen having lunch with him in San Fran while Stephen Schwartz and David Rockwell ( who is co-producing Houdini) were already seen at his show at the Curran. Hugh does have a merry time deciding between film and theatre Jo

Kathy Griffin and Hugh Jackman should not be mentioned in the same sentence, let alone up for the same award.

Nevaeh, no matter who the architect is, I agree it's a shame when any theater is destroyed. I remember when the stately, historic Morosco theater on Broadway was demolished to make way for the Marriott hotel and theater complex. Lots of protests, but to no avail. Such is "progress."

How sad - the Princess of Wales Theater is such a beautiful, modern facility. You're right, Nevaeh, Toronto desperately needs more condos! Carol

Ellen So right Ellen. It's all so sad. It's like losing an old friend somehow. You're right also in that if David Mirvish has made up his mind, no matter how many protest, he's going to go ahead with this ridiculous idea. The first time I was ever in this theater was back in 1995 when I saw "Beauty and the Beast". It was the best production of this show I have ever seen. This theater is so young and it's all such a shame. His dad was so excited when he opened this theater and even more excited when he came up with the name for Diana. It would be only a few short years later that she would die and this theater would mean so much more as it was dedicated to her memory. Hu4601, I cannot believe they are now talking about demolishing the Sydney Entertainment Centre! What's going on with these places? You were saying that this was where you first experienced Hugh in live performance, well Princess of Wales was where I first experienced Hugh in live performance so I totally understand! I hope they think that one through a little more and decide against it my friend! Keep us posted on that one. Carol, thanks so much for your understanding; it means so much.

I just read this news about the Princess of Wales Theatre! I don't get it! It is one of the most beautiful theatres I've ever been to. We had such a wonderful time in Toronto, especially Hugh's last performance there, when I attended the show with my "date", Brent Spiner! (I wrote how that came about on the old board).
These people have no sense of history, and no appreciation for beauty. Is there a preservation group in Toronto that is protesting this?

Cheryl Sadly Cheryl, David Mirvish has said that no matter how many protest this, it's coming down! :'( It's all very sad indeed. I remember you posting about Brent Spiner though! Didn't you bump into him in Toronto somewhere and talk about Hugh's show with him? I believe he told you he couldn't get tickets because they were all sold out and that he would have loved to have gone! I think you said, you knew someone who had an extra ticket (a friend?) and told him who to contact. He said he just might do that! You ended up sitting next to him didn't you?

Here's how my "date" came about - I had an extra ticket for the last performance. A friend of mine who came with us to Toronto bumped into Brent Spiner at one of the venues for the Toronto Film Festival, which was nearby the theatre. She is a huge Star Trek fan (as am I) and she chatted him up. He was in Toronto filming an episode of the show "Alphas". My girlfriend told him that we were in Toronto to see Hugh's show, and he said he would like to see it, but he heard it was sold out. That's when she told him that I had an extra ticket. He contacted us, and we met him at the theatre. I had a great time with him, and I did not act like a "fangirl". We had a nice conversation before the show, talked a lot about Hugh, and about acting and theater. BTW, did you know that he also does musical theater? We saw him in a revival of "1776" and he was great in it!
It was quite a thrill to be sitting next to Brent and watching Hugh at the same time!

Cheryl, that story still makes me smile. What an evening at the theater you must have had!
Brent Spiner was also in the original cast of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. albeit in a minor role. He's on the DVD with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters.

I met Brent many years ago at a Star Trek convention in Atlanta. Lately he has had a recurring role in the TV show Warehouse 13.

My trekkie days started right with the original! I used to have a crush on Kirk. I have so much memorabilia stored in boxes from when I was a teen on up (including a Star Trek Manual and Starship blueprints from the 1970's LOL) Sheldon would be proud. When I was a little girl and we moved from England to Canada, we stayed with friends while we were waiting for our house to be built. The first night we stayed with them they had the television on and I remember watching this beautiful female alien (who was mute) be able to physically heal people with her touch. She had such expressive eyes and could feel all the pain that the person felt when it was transferred to her. Then the pain would disappear from her and she'd collapse out of exhaustion. I remember wanting that gift so badly that I knelt by my bed that night and prayed (for weeks after that too) that God would give me that same ability to be able to heal people of their pain. Later on, I found that the show was called "Star Trek" and the episode was called "The Empath". From then on, I was hooked. I have watched every Star Trek episode since. What's funny, for you Star Trek TNG fans, is that in the Fifth Season there was an episode called "I BORG". The Enterprise answered a distress signal from this small planet and found one survivor at the crash sight - a young Borg. Despite their hatred for these creatures, the members brought him on board. He referred to himself as "Third of Five", but Geordi La Forge (who befriended him first) said he needed a new name, a human name. So he gave him the name.....Hugh.

I remember both those episodes well! I still have quite a bit of Star Trek stuff (like many of the Hallmark Christmas ornaments, books, and unopened plastic figures) I once won a trivia contest at a ST convention! ;D Have met most of the cast from all the various STs.
