For the animal lovers...

I had a cat who liked sailing when I lived in NH.
...but the fish in Lake Winnipesaukee were much smaller than these dolphins - and she would catch and EAT them.

Anyone who has had a cat will recognize the familiar "boinking" behavior... but I didn't know dolphins did it too.



Here's the email I got (from a friend in Hong Kong!):
With a feline's normal aversion to water, it is surprising that a cat would enjoy being on a small boat, especially hanging around the boat's edge where he could easily fall into the ocean. In this case, however, the cat's natural curiosity wins out as he "discovers" dolphins alongside the boat (while his owners fish in the Florida Keys) -- something he's never seen before. The cat is so fascinated with the playful creatures that he invites them to join in his favorite kissing game - and they do! They are just as curious and as fascinated as the cat is.

I shared this story years ago on the old Red Board. It came to me from a cyber-friend just after my return from Australia in 2006 (the TBFO arena tour). I happened upon the website again and thought I'd re-post the story.

About eight years ago a wild Australian Sulphur Crested Cockatoo flew into a car and broke its wing. The motorist took it to the Vet in Nerang, Queensland, who had to amputate the wing. We adopted her - for which we needed a National Parks and Wildlife permit - and kept her in a cage outside where she was often visited by wild Cockatoos. One of the things that impressed us was how she would push lettuce leaves through the bars of the cage, offering food to visitors. She generously shared her food.

This is a sweet story about a captive, disabled bird who met, fell in love and raised a family with a wild mate.
The "tamper proof" latch on her cage did not thwart her avid suitor!

With both her parents being nature photographers, Tippi Degre has had one amazing childhood. Before she was born, her French parents relocated to Namibia, Africa where she grew up alongside wild animals such as zebras, elephants, cheetahs, and lions. Instead of playing with dolls, Tippi was out kissing toads and riding on the backs and trunks of elephants. Can you imagine how incredible this must have been?
