Not sure how to classify this information. We know that Hugh did acknowledge how interested he was in the script of UNBOUND CAPTIVES, but nothing has come out of it since that Katie Couric interview when it was mentioned ( when he was doing A Steady Rain - circa 2009). Madeleine Stowe appeared on Good Morning America on Feb 9, 2013 (?) and was said to have talked about the western and its lead stars. www.recapo.com/good-morning-america/gma-celebrities/gma-wreck-it-ralph-kendall-kylie-jenner-madeleine-stowe-revenge/At this point, it is hard to say whether it is more of wishful thinking on her part about the film project or not. Since she is the ONLY one who ever mentions it, I would say wishful thinking until somebody else dusts off the cobwebs

This was (and still is) one movie I wanted to see. I liked the script and I think westerns are *in* again. I would love to see him working with Rachel again. And he has, so far, summer off...

This is NOT a rumor, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting it an exclusive! www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hugh-jackman-star-six-years-424681----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hugh Jackman to Star in 'Six Years' for Paramount (Exclusive)
4:10 PM PDT 3/18/2013 by Tatiana Siegel
The Tom Rothman-produced project, which is based on Harlan Coben's upcoming novel, marks the actor's first move since nabbing an Oscar nomination for "Les Miserables."
In his first move since landing an Oscar nomination for his lead turn in Les Miserables, Hugh Jackman is attached to star in a big-screen adaptation of Harlan Coben's upcoming novel Six Years. Paramount is developing the project. The studio was among at least four bidders including 20th Century Fox that was vying for the WME-repped package, which does not yet have a screenwriter or director attached. Tom Rothman, the former Fox chief, is in negotiations to produce. The novel centers on Jake Fisher, who watched the love of his life, Natalie, marry another man. Six years have passed when Jake comes across the other man's obituary. He resolves to attend the funeral, hoping to catch a glimpse of Natalie. But the mourning widow is not Natalie, throwing all of his past memories with the woman into question. Coben’s past five novels have debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list.
Six Years publishes March 19. Though Coben's novels frequently top the best-seller lists, only one has been adapted for the big screen: 2006’s Tell No One, a French-language film directed by Guillaume Canet. Warner Bros. acquired remake rights to that film, with Ben Affleck attached to direct and Chris Terrio writing. Jackman and Coben are repped by WME.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It looks like this project will likely proceed, as it was packaged by WME ( it pays to have the co-CEO of WME as your longtime agent), Tom Rothman may produce and he probably still has the name to get the project really going, and a big studio (Paramount) is behind the project! But I wonder how long this project will be in development and when Hugh will be able to do the movie? After Houdini? Not likely that he can do it right after DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, unless it is fast-tracked? I do like Harlan Coben -- I have read maybe two of his books and they are thrillers but very character-driven. This is going to be a contemporary role for Hugh ( he gets classified usually for action movies or period pieces or musicals )! Excited much - for Hugh and for Hugh fans ;D Jo

This is a synopsis from Amazon.com -- Book Description Release date: March 19, 2013 In Six Years, a masterpiece of modern suspense, Harlan Coben explores the depth and passion of lost love…and the secrets and lies at its heart. Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for…but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out. As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found, or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction. Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking page-turner that deftly explores the power of past love, and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In case you are interested to explore reactions to the book more, there are reviews from BOOK REVIEW sites/publications and two readers' reviews -- www.amazon.com/Six-Years-Harlan-Coben/dp/0525953485/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1363650820&sr=1-1&keywords=six+years+harlan+cobenJo

I love the announcement of the new role and it sounds like an incredible story so I have it in my book wish list at Amazon. That said, I really thought the article was poorly written. In two places the writer says it's his first "move" since getting the Oscar nomination. First of all, it's a very poor word choice. Many people will read it quickly and see it as "movie". Secondly it's just wrong. It's neither his first movie nor his first signing since the nomination. He's filming a movie now, Prisoners. and he will be doing DoFP which was signed after the nomination. So whether the writer was referring to him filming a movie or being signed for a new movie, the premise is wrong. It's lazy writing. End of rant! I'm still really excited about the role though! > Sue

Sounds like an intriguing story, so I looked at the book via Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com... The book is going to be released tomorrow, March 19th! I have added it to my e-Book Wish List, however, I will check to see if my library will have it, since it is not necessarily the type of book I read on a regular basis... But then again, my birthday IS next month...

Now I know why I got interested in Harlan Coben thrillers in the first place -- A few years back, Hugh's name was also attached ( or mentioned) as possibly handling the lead role in a Corben thriller called LONG LOST. It never happened but past online records of the NYTimes film database indicated that Hugh's name had been actually attached -- movies.nytimes.com/movie/461821/Long-Lost/detailsNot sure if it was WME then which headed the packaging discussions...it could be...and maybe the current deal for SIX YEARS is a part of resurrecting the interest in the filmization of Coben books. Hope this one gets to first base! Main and critical difference now is that this has the backing of a major studio ( which won over other studios over the film rights). The first project seemed more like a project of a much smaller production company. Jo

I liked the French-language movie version of Coben's Tell No One, and this story sounds just as intriguing. I just hope it proceeds swiftly and does not languish in development hell.

We're having an interesting discussion on SIX YEARS and Hugh on the Movie Awards section of IMDB -- www.imdb.com/board/bd0000005/nest/212097356Interesting comment from this poster after I had mentioned that Hugh has likely signed on to the project because of the Whitesell connection, since it was WME which packaged the film deal.

Interesting reactions to the direction that Hugh's career is taking him, including the role in SIX YEARS. On Ain't It Cool News ( the only fansite that Hugh himself follows on Twitter), the most fanboyish of all movie sites -- www.aintitcool.com/node/61529the feedback section ( which I used to dread reading) acknowledges that Hugh -- *Is good at dramatic acting -- citing his work in The Fountain ( including the ring tattooing on his finger)... and someone notes how good he is at showing " serious depressed acting".... while another male fan hopes " he does that 'breaking-down in tears/totally bereft' moment that has now become the Jackman signature" *His musical talent is also acknowledged I think it is now becoming much clearer to many that Hugh Jackman is one of the most versatile actors around. Our treasured secret is now out ;D Jo

I have read virtually all of Harlan Coben's books. He's one of my favorite authors. Incidently, in several of his books he has one of his female characters make statements about how hot Hugh is. I believe Coben is a fan of Hugh's which might explain Hugh being tapped for this role.

I remember reading that Dan Brown (DaVinci Code) had based Robert Langdon on him. Alas he became Tom Hanks... Sue

How true ;D That is why I wrote that I dread reading the feedback section. However I have noticed a change of tone somewhat from the fanboys lately, even with Les Miserables and the more so with Six Years. I am sure I will be back reading the feedback section once the teaser/trailer for The Wolverine comes out -- LOL -- those fanboys will have a field day either dishing it or dissing it! Arguably, it is ( or it used to be) the most influential of the film sites - even Hugh follows the tweets from there Jo

I believe Coben is a fan of Hugh's which might explain Hugh being tapped for this role. Earlier, I noted that there was a past project which did not prosper, where Hugh was supposed to be attached to another film adaptation of a Coben book ( LONG LOST). I think in the report by The Hollywood Reporter, it noted that Hugh and Harlan Coben are both represented by WME, which packaged the deal. So, there seems to be some business connection through Hugh's agency ( Hugh's longtime agent, Patrick Whitesell, is co-CEO of WME). Jo

I got my copy of Six Years yesterday and you may be right, Birchie, about Coben maybe basing the main character on Hugh. He describes him as being 6'5" (just a bit over Hugh's height), well-built and very handsome. He's a college professor, smart, funny and a great guy according to one of his female admirers. I've only read a few chapters so far but it's a page turner and hard to put down. It sound like it would be an exciting thriller and would make a good movie.

Just finished reading "six years". A really good book and a perfect part although the man in the bookis younger it certainly could be played by our guy! I read it last weekend. I love mystery/suspense/thrillers and Coben is a very good writer. I loved the book. I especially loved that it was set in my area so I Have high hopes that Hugh may film around here when the time comes. Yes Jake Fisher is younger but as I was reading it I never actually pictured him younger, if that makes sense. It may be that Coben is an older guy so maybe that comes through in his writing but I could definitely picture Hugh as Jake Fisher. Very intriguing story with lots of twists and turns and I loved the ending! Sue

You r right Sue he will be amazing in the part!who could be Natalie Avery? I actually thought of 2...Diane Kruger or Naomi Watts...guess I'm thinking the character had a Grace Kelly-ish vibe when I read it. Who would be best friend Benedict? When he's first described (p.17) I can almost picture Will.i.am He hasn't done much acting except for Origins but someone else similar to that type perhaps??? Sue
