So, will it be different from the original animated movie or the stage adaptation, like the new BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ? It seems that the Jackman rumor was the most exciting of the possible casting

How many animal characters has Hugh Jackman portrayed *Of course there will always be Wolverine! *A posh rat ( Roddy) in Flushed Away *An easter bunny ( BunnyMund) in Rise of the Guardians *A singing penguin (Memphis) in Happy Feet Didn't happen -- *Larrikins ( a marsupial/bilby ?) *Lion King ( a villainous lion) ??

Hugh as Scar -- as soon as the rumors came flying, some had already started photo-shopping the casting image If Hugh had been cast as SCAR, this would have been his big number --

The original Be Prepared number was vocalized by Jeremy Irons. Sorry, but I thought he was too British-sounding... more like British-nobility-villain!
The number is reminiscent of Hugh Jackman/Blackbeard singing TEEN SPIRIT to his subjects in PAN.
Although of course PAN came much later compared to LION KING.

Can't say I'm not disappointed after being so excited. He'd be great in the role, and let's face it, the movie's success is almost guaranteed.

Is the gossip still alive about a DC tie-up?
Simon Thompson is an L.A.-based film and entertainment journalist.
Caleb Williams is with Omega Underground which supposedly broke the story that someone from the production said Hugh will be cast as SCAR in the live-action LION KING adaptation.
I wonder -- could there be another DC project under discussion -- not necessarily LION KING.

Here's a very wild thought --
Hey, maybe he just wanted to look up Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios Chief, who used to be Lauren Shuler Donner's assistant. Kevin worked for Shuler Donner as Associate Producer for the first XMen movie in 1999/2000.

Not sure if that producer is simply dropping the names of Hugh et al to generate more interest in his film project. He hasn't even talked to any of the actors. Is it just voice-over work or is it a live-action adaptation ( as one site reported)?

Jo Yeah it's probably to generate interest, but the idea is so funny I think it's live-action or something like that...but the actors would probably just do voice-over work. This seems even less credible than that Scar thing from earlier this year but I thought I'd share in case there is some truth to it

The Scar rumor came up because Hugh was seen at the Disney premises ( presumably for something else, given the official cast announcement for LION KING later on). What was disappointing was the cancellation of the LARRIKINS project because of the corporate moves of Universal affecting the acquisition of DREAMWORKS ANIMATION. That would have been his 4th voice-over work after FLUSHED AWAY, HAPPY FEET, and RISE OF THE GUARDIANS.
At this point, I am more keen to see Hugh involved in more serious projects ( with some box office potential, not just arthouse movies) in his next few films to showcase that he does have excellent acting chops!

Jo I'd love for him to play a villain or do a comedy. I recently saw Butter which wasn't very good but he was hilarious in it

Sadly the one role that cast him in a villainy role in a tragi-comedy was in A STEADY RAIN! That was one of my favorite performances by Hugh Jackman -- he was annoying but at the same time funny/comedic as the macho alpha male rogue cop Denny. Towards the second act, as his character went down the physical, mental and emotional abyss, the character became sympathetic and even pitiful. But in the end, when he was already thinking of what he did in the end, his face took on a nobler countenance ( as if a foreshadowing of the self-sacrifice that he was about to do). I cannot forget the tear that went down his cheek ( in repeated performances, which I was lucky to see at close range) as he was reminiscing with the character of Daniel Craig.
Too bad Spielberg's interest in the play as a potential film project did not last long, while the producers toyed with the idea of the film adaptation.
That role could have won Hugh at least an Oscar nod!

Michael Mann has been interviewed recently ( article is dated October 24, 2017), featured in this article ( in French) There might be a Hugh Jackman connection -- www.ecranlarge.com/films/news/1002729-comanche-michael-mann-prepare-un-western-remake-de-la-prisonniere-du-desert-avec-hugh-jackmanExcerpts, as translated by GOOGLE -- *Is the ENZO FERRARI project still pushing through? Is Hugh attached to the role of Enzo? If so, when is it filming? *Is Hugh also interested in the future project mentioned in the article? Is this movie project replacing ENZO FERRARI ... or are both projects viable? And is Hugh be possibly attached to both, even on a preliminary basis? Jo

I think this could be the AFP ( Agence France Presse) article that was referred to in the above article -- www.laprovence.com/article/france-monde/4664629/au-festival-lumiere-michael-mann-decortique-son-chef-doeuvre-heat.htmlArticle is dated October 15, 2017. The article has been translated automatically -- Excerpts : Years back, wasn't Hugh supposed to be interested in a western written by the actress Madeleine Stowe called UNBOUND CAPTIVES? Of course the COMANCHE project sounds a lot bigger and more interesting, especially if Michael Mann is able to put in his cinematic vision to it! Jo

Finally found an English article from Playlist which must have translated the original article ( which appeared in France's LIBERATION) -- theplaylist.net/michael-mann-comanche-avatar-20171023/Playlist asks if Michael Mann might have confused his Ferrari project with Comanche when he mentioned that Hugh is attached to the Comanche project. Hmm... Michael Mann may be 70, but I don't think he is senile? If there is any mistake, it could be the original French interviewer who might have made the mistake? But would Hugh express that he is up "to something else" ( in the words of Ruby) -- if it was the Ferrari biopic? That is already widely known buzz, even if no formal announcements have been made. Both sound exciting -- hope he gets to make both. ENZO FERRARI could be a strong biopic, given the fiery reputation of the real Enzo! Plus we are talking about the person who gave the marque for the most famous racing car and the most-wanted luxury road and sports car! COMANCHE sounds like it might appeal to a broad market -- westerns are loved when done well and there seems to be a revival of interest in the genre. Even LOGAN is praised for its Western vibe! Both will suit Hugh's masculine appeal on the big screen, although the story of Enzo takes place later in his life... while COMANCHE will likely have a superhero western hero! We'll see... Jo

Fans are fantasizing about Hugh's new roles --
*Of course with the strong possibility of Disney acquiring the FOX film studio -- casting Hugh as Wolverine in THE AVENGERS ( whatever sequel!) is the most vociferous fan suggestion!
*A few tweets saying Hugh is rumored for KINGSMAN 3?
*Someone wants to cast Hugh and DDLewis in a remake or new version of JACK THE RIPPER. He suggests that casting can go either way.
*The latest photo of Hugh with Idris Elba has also spawned some talk about casting them in a remake of GUYS AND DOLLS ( with Hugh as Sky and Idris as Nathan).
