And so beautifully nasty in GASLIGHT. Yes, he's one of those actors who seem born at 40. Good thing teen movies weren't "the thing" back then. Ellen

I had forgotten about this potential film project, with Hugh supposedly looking at the lead role. It is now involved in a lawsuit filed by MGM, who alleges the storyline could be too similar to Ian Fleming's James Bond stories. www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00069850.htmlHere's the original account of how Universal won the competitive bidding for this hot spec script and a mention that Hugh was one of the actors interested in the project -- www.thewrap.com/universal-wins-heated-bidding-war-spy-spec-script-section-6/If this script has been bidded out before Universal won it, didn't the James Bond producers/MGM had a chance to see it then? Why are they demanding to be shown the script now? Or is it just a potential publicity war between the two projects ( there is a forthcoming Bond movie in the offing)? I wonder if Hugh is still interested in this project, assuming that the legal issues are settled not too long into the future? Also, is he supposed to be competing with a relatively unknown 23 year-old British actor for the role -- or are there two main roles? We'll see how this develops...or if Hugh is even interested in it. Jo

Hmm...it looks like Hugh is in LA ( or has been there for a few days?) --
Another supposed sighting --
The above tweets plus the one from Brandon Molale ( with a pic with Hugh on a supposed film set) - seems to indicate he has been filming something. More pick-up shoots for DOFP? Or something else?
Aha - so it looks like this is related to Days of Future Past??

Another set of intriguing tweets/photos --
Hmmm...not necessarily a movie project but probably a documentary to support an advocacy ( education/science and technology?)??
Or...could this be the setting for a promo for DOFP??

Just sitting here watching THE SUNDOWNERS with Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr on the TCM channel. Wouldn't it make a great TV miniseries for Hugh and Cate Blanchett? Are you listening HBO?

I second that. I'm switching back and forth between TCM and that WWE Raw thing--which is finally over, mercifully--at least Hugh's segment.

This is actually an article re his becoming Global Brand Ambassador for MONTBLANC, but hidden within the paragraphs is one sentence that has sent my brain spinning again - LOL! www.thestar.com.my/Lifestyle/Features/2014/04/30/Hugh-Jackman-Man-of-the-hour/First, he mentions that he expects more of the kind of projects in recent years " in the near future"! He will likely be very busy in the next few years, apart from his return to Broadway. This article was released on April 30, so presumably "the top secret project" cannot be about THE RIVER, which he confirmed early this year. The next WOLVERINE solo movie has also been announced formally by FOX. We know that he is filming PAN soon. Bryan Singer talked about APOCALYPSE, but with the First Class cast as the leads plus there is too much already discussed about that project. He has also tweeted about the first recording for GREATEST SHOWMAN. Also, he has tweeted about the Times Sq project BROADWAY-4D and even showed us an instagram image... So...what could it be?? Awaiting with bated breath! Jo

*His name has been mentioned by fans as a possibility in the Charles Heston role for the remake of BEN-HUR ( already with a release date of 2016)...but I am not too sure about the reputation of the director, as I am not familiar with him. *People have also speculated that he could be a new " Indiana Jones" - but I think Harrison Ford has not given up the role. I imagine that if he calls it a " top secret project" that it is a potential blockbuster or a potential artistic success...and maybe involving a top director? Give us a hint, Hugh Jo

So I'm afraid the "top secret" new project was just "The River", which he announced at the end of that month. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. I was also very excited about the possibilities. But he might surprise us yet!! There still seems like there might be time for him to do something later in the year between Pan and The River... maybe? Hoping. www.ifashion.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5723

Thanks, Sue I had a gut feeling that since he used the same exact words, that it might have been THE RIVER. Although, I did wonder if he had used those words because at that time, he had not yet disengaged from HOUDINI or that THE ROYAL COURT has not made a final decision to transfer the play. But the play (described as a "reflective play"), while very well-received, was not a blockbuster play from the West End that would have been strongly heralded on Broadway (even if the playwright's JERUSALEM was a very strong success when it transferred). Although Hugh seems to think that it is a "top project" as far as he is concerned. Maybe it is the theatre actor in him which hankers for material like this to be played out live onstage and which represents a more intellectual, rather than emotional, challenge for theatre-trained actors like him. Yes, he did say that he might be busy with similar recent projects in the near future - it is unusual that nothing has been announced after PAN, even if The River ( which is expected as a limited run) will likely occupy his schedule in spring/summer for 2015. Another film project that wants Hugh in its cast -- www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014/08/02/Wooing-Wolverine-for-death-march-movie/Hmm... if Hugh joins the XMEN team for APOCALYPSE, the schedule of filming could run into a conflict as both are targeting a 2016 release. On the other hand, the subject might appeal to Hugh because it deals with the bravery of British and Australian soldiers during World War 2, in the Pacific war theatre. Jo

Jo I'd love for him to take on a role like that as long as the production, cast, crew etc are going to be first rate. Sounds like a role he could really sink his teeth into. Hope his part is one of the heroic few who survived/escaped! Frankly, I'd rather see him in a role like this rather than in Apocalypse. I don't think he's contractually obligated to do Apocalypse, but of course if they asked him he'd probably say yes out of loyalty to the franchise. Sue

The subject resonates a lot with me -- as there were two infamous death marches in the Pacific during World War 2 -- from Wikipedia:
Bataan is a peninsula in our main island ( close to Metro Manila) and where one of the famous battles happened during the war, along with Corregidor ( This was the time when General MacArthur was brought to Australia for safety as he was the commander of the Pacific theatre -- he came back years later to liberate the Philippines, a few years after his famous promise " I shall return!"). In the memorial to Iwo Jima in Washington DC/Arlington, I recall seeing that two of the memorialized places etched on the monument are Bataan and Corregidor ( an island at the mouth of Manila Bay and quite close to Bataan)!
The Bataan death march, with both American and Filipino soldiers, was a terrible and horrific episode of the war -- and the nation's wounds ran deep for many years.
I did not know that there was another one with occurred in nearby Sabah, where British and Australian soldiers suffered during another infamous march.
I hope the Malaysian government gives this war drama project its full support, in all respects!

I just found out that during World War 2, a war movie depicting the bravery in BATAAN ( the actual name of the movie) was released, which somebody said seemed like the "Saving Private Ryan" of 1943. www.imdb.com/title/tt0035664/The cast was impressive -- the late Robert Taylor, George Murphy, Lloyd Nolan, Robert Walker, Barry Nelson, among them. War drama can appeal to many people because of the dramatic content and historical bent... and we know it reflects what might have happened in real life ( not like superhero movies of the current day). One thing though, in terms of the box office, a war drama involving American soldiers will probably have a much broader appeal. Even there, the more recent Clint Eastwood-directed pair of movies depicting the two sides of war in the Pacific ( Flags of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima) drew critical acclaim ( esp Letter from Iwo Jima which was highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes in general and by top critics) but were not box office successes. I guess it is the script that will hold the greatest appeal to Hugh ( and of course because the story involved Australian soldiers). The director, more known for art direction ( he won an Oscar for a movie), has a mixed record of critical success. We'll see. Jo

Saw a dramatic rendering of a later chapter of Filipino history this weekend. Caught up with the kinetic Off-Broadway musical HERE LIES LOVE. Fascinatng story of childhood dreams gone sour, given to betrayal, avarice and excess, set to a listenable although not spectacular score. Interesting trivial point: Never realized that disco-obsessed Imelda Marcos was rejected by her first boyfriend, doomed politician and reformer Ninoy Aquino, because he deemed her "too tall."
Sorry to go somewhat off-topic here. Who knows if Hugh is really interested or if this is a fishing expedition on the part if the producers. As you say, Jo, we'll see.

OFF - TOPIC I saw your post on ATC and was wondering if you would also share your impressions of "Here Lies Love" here, Ellen. Hmm...I am not too sure about that "boyfriend" thing -- maybe they just went out together. But when I was young, one of my close schoolmates was a niece of Imelda ( whose family was fairly prominent, but not her side of it) and she was telling me then that Auntie Meldy's boyfriend was one of the country's most prominent architects. But that did not pan out -- and young politician Ferdinand Marcos swept her off her feet. She is quite a personality ( and she is 85 years old now)! Of course, you probably know that a populist, military-backed, bloodless revolution ( I was there on that famous stretch of highway!) swept the Marcoses away from office...and led to Cory Aquino being installed as the new President ( this was also an aftermath of the assassination of her husband Ninoy). We do have a very interesting history of political intrigues, including attempts to iconize some figures - it happens everywhere, I guess. But Imelda's love of music is quite well-known -- I recall that she does have a very good singing voice and she does love to dance ( most Filipinos are very musically-oriented) ...and in her heyday, she was a stunning Filipina beauty ( statuesque, too!). Here Lies Love has not been talked about here, except for the production and creative team coming here to cast the London transfer. I also hear that there is a forthcoming San Francisco staging? Hmm... is it all dancing and discoing? Somehow, I cannot imagine how that can be transposed into a book musical...or is it l more like a jukebox musical? Jo

It is obvious that their first choice would be Hugh Jackman - he is very popular now, he is well-known for action movies, he has dramatic chops, and he is Australian ( whose love of his homeland is very apparent)! Plus, he could be a popular hook to other actors to join the movie if the producers can say that Hugh might be interested in the film project. But given his popularity and versatility, Hugh probably gets a lot of scripts to read and to consider. Hey, it is only slightly less than three months to go before anyone can ask him about this potential role ( or any other firm film commitments) at the stagedoor of CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE, where Hugh is going to go fishing, of a different sort Jo
