The Hollywood Reporter reports that Seth MacFarlane has turned down hosting the Oscars for a second time -- www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/seth-macfarlane-bows-oscars-525605Hugh's name crops up every now and then among fans as a suitable host. But I think his dilemma is that he may have to choose between offers to host the TONYs or to host the OSCARS, given of course that he can fit either one in his schedule ( of films and theatre). If Houdini is still a possibility for spring 2014, then I think he won't consider an offer for the 2014 Oscars hosting. Although if things turn out well and he gets a nod for PRISONERS, his name will be out there all over again. On the other hand, if Houdini is a spring 2014 addition, can he still host the TONYs for 2014? He did that during the year he won for TBFO, though. Would you rather see him host the Oscars or the Tonys? In either case, I would like to see him get a great bunch of writers as he did for the 2009 Oscars ( the Tonys writers are too tired). Jo

There's a difference, though, between 2004 and 2014. TBFO had been running since the previous fall. If HOUDINI opens in, say, late spring, they'll pretty much just be getting the show on its feet at Tonys time. That would likely require more time investment by Hugh and crew, giving him less time to prep for Tonys hosting.
Of course, this is all just speculation. And while I love to see him host the Tonys, the Oscars give him a much bigger--that is, global--audience. So if I had my way, I'd rather he hie it to Tinseltown than the Great White Way, at least for awards night.
