Happy Thanksgiving to all from Massachusetts! Took my boys to Plymouth Plantation for Thanksgiving day once when they were young. Fun and educational! Hope everyone has a great day. Sue

I started to warm up to him because of his humorous tweets during filming but it looks like he's made a lot of poor choices in the last couple of years and doesn't seem to be spending much time with his boys. He had them with him for a couple weeks this summer and recently mentioned missing them but he doesn't really seem to prioritize quality father time in his schedule. I may go back to thinking he's the insensitive oaf I thought he was before. Sue

In the pod cast under The Jackman Family, at least I think that's where it was, they asked Hugh about Russell. There seemed to be a remark, after Hugh talked about both of them getting acting tips from one another, that they had become close friends, and it sounded like Hugh tried to give him some advise about family, indirectly. at least that what it seemed to me.

That's interesting, I remember reading a small article recently that said something like...Hugh & Russell may have had a bit of a falling out after Hugh tried to give him some advice about his personal life. I dismissed it as another bogus rumor or attributed it to a random blogger who had an ax to grind. Maybe there was some truth to it. Russell's schedule for the last couple of years didn't leave much room for family and Hugh is all about making sure he has family time. Sue

I'm fairly certain that family considerations heavily influence Hugh's career decisions. I was just remembering how he'd turned down A Steady Rain initially because the production was planned for the London stage, and he didn't want to disrupt his kids' school routines. Fortunately for us all, Daniel Craig agreed to come to New York, and Hugh was able to have a somewhat normal family life during the play's run.
We can't know whether or not Hugh and Russell had the conversations that were hinted at, but let's hope that some of Hugh's total devotion to family did rub off on his costar.

Not sure if this has anything to do with Russell's effort to reconcile with his wife and spend more time with his family -- but it has been officially ( and quite abruptly) announced that he is selling his shares of his beloved Rugby Team, the Rabbitohs ( which has had its best season this year). If that is so, that must be a huge sacrifice for him knowing how devoted he is to them! Maybe it was taking too much of his free time from making movies, time which he can devote more for his family?
It seems he is not attending the London premiere ( presumably so he can finish his new movie Winter's Tale, which is supposedly just an accomodation to an old friend) and will only be in the NYC premiere. He also said he is not going to the Japan premiere ( Dec 18) as he is going home to Sydney.

I don't know why I can't get it. It's just a black square that never goes to the video. Any suggestions? Thanks

We live in a small, quiet town so the police log that runs in the weekly town paper is often pretty amusing. The reports tend to cover loose horses in the road, noisy teenagers, wild turkeys attacking cars, that kind of thing. But this latest issue included an item that will tickle the funny bone of those who love musicals and silly puns. (Though I’m sure this one was unintended, probably the result of someone who doesn’t know dog breeds copying something off a police scanner.)
“Sunday, 11:05am. A woman reported finding a Porgy and the dog officer was contacted.”
Seems to me, it’s Bess who should have been contacted.

Just a quick note that a typhoon has hit the Phillipines and I haven't seen a post from Jo lately. I sent her a message that I hoped her, her family and friends are OK. It has killed 350 people. If anyone hears from her, can you please let us know she's OK. I didn't know where to put this so I put it here.

Just got on and got a PM from her. I'm so glad she's OK. Mother Nature is getting much worse with these hurricanes. I'm glad we're all safe, especially after "Sandy" here.

Another case of one of Hugh's remarks in jest taken seriously by clueless reporters. He's a big supporter of Craig as Bond.

I didn't know where to post this, so I did it here.
Last weekend at the cinema I saw a trailer for Dustin Hoffman's "Quartet", which will start showing down here soon. I know it opened in the US in January (?). I liked what the trailer promised.
Has anyone seen it? Does anyone have any comments?

It is one of those quiet British character studies with a great script delivered by excellent actors plus the music is wonderful. I bought the soundtrack. I wrote a review if you would like to read it blankandwhite.net/2013/03/02/quartet/

And what a treat to get to watch Fred and Ginger (and Eleanor, and Rita) in those dancing scenes in your blog! Er, forgive my ignorance, but it IS called a blog? Alma
