Sue, I am sorry to hear that you have had to deal with a family tragedy. Hope things are better soon. Come and rejoin us when you can -- there is a thread I started on Hugh speeches/personal articles, with a copy of Hugh's acceptance speech when he was honored at his alma mater, The University of Technology at Sydney. He shares his thoughts and the insights are quite remarkable on appreciating the kind of person he is. LOL - never mind the Duane-something guy. He obviously loves to hear himself talk and pontificate. Typical of some infantile IMDB characters. Btw, Jamie has come to the rescue ( Thanks, Jamie .) Jo

Surely hope he does Houdini. New musicals are hard but not impossible and this would be such a great challenge for him he would love doing the tricks etch remember if it wasn't a success he would just joke about it as he does about Van Helsing !!

Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts. Watched Les Mis this morning for spiritually uplifting ending and distracting my mind with baseball at the moment. Will share more later in the week. Sue

I was sorry to learn of James Gandolfini's untimely death today. I enjoyed his performance in GOD OF CARNAGE, which was playing a couple of doors down from Hugh and Daniel in A STEADY RAIN; and of course as the bad guy you couldn't help but like in THE SOPRANOS. So sad--his youngest is only eight months old.

Just trying to get back into some normal things. Briefly, a family member who was like a son to me was found a week ago after being missing a couple days. He had committed suicide. It will take a long time for my heart to heal & it also brings up concerns over my youngest who deals with bouts of depression since his brain injury last year and he was close to his Uncle. One of the daughters is having an especially difficult time coping with the loss of her father. A lot to process for everyone. Thanks again for the supportive thoughts. Sue

Sue,
That's a lot to take in, and dealing with it all will take some time. I'll be thinking of you - please take care.

Just a remark for the beginning of Hugh´s promotional tour...this will be a crazy second half of 2013 for me because my second favourite actor - Sharlto Copley - will also have a movie out in August (Elysium) and he also started to do some interviews. Then Hugh with Prisoners and then again Sharlto...damn, fortunately for potential award season, they don´t seem to go against each other. Yet.

From Deadline Hollywood --
So, no Sacha and Tom for this biopic...it could have been a good one for Freddie Mercury fans!

Cohen looks so much like the late Mercury that it's a shame they couldn't work it out.
I was also disheartened to learn of Dennis Farina's passing earlier today from a blood clot in the lung. When A STEADY RAIN got underway, I kept thinking: to hone their Chicago accents, Hugh and Daniel should spent a week with Farina. The Chicago cop-turned-actor always made an impression in every role.

Congrats to the "Boys from OZ" who just helped Team USA win the Americas Cup Yachting in San Francisco, coming back from 8-1 down in a 17 race series. The US boat was skippered by an Aussie and included more Aussies than any other nationality !! Commiserations to the New Zealand team who were so far ahead, until the US boat staged one of the most amazing comebacks in sporting history. It's also 30 years ago today since Australia caused a huge upset,by defeating the US in this iconic yachting competition. It was one of those days in Australian history where everyone remembers what they were doing at the time it happened.

Thanks for your concern - I posted some comments on the Oklahoma! topic, because CarouselKathy voiced a similar inquiry earlier.

Jo, Just read about the Philippines typhoon and got caught up on the other thread so I was glad to see that you and yours were not affected by the typhoon. Funny how so many storms around the world lately have been called "the worst ever" & similar labels. I wonder what the climate change doubters think when they see these things? smiley-rolleyes010 Sue

Sue,
Here, government and media are quite convinced that climate change is a major reason for the worsening weather disturbances. Some examples of self-regulation at the local /national levels --
*Most supermarkets have disallowed the use of plastic bags, except for certain kind of produce and a few other things. One has to carry his own bag ( usually cloth) or use the paper bags/used boxes provided by the supermarket.
*We have color-coding rules for driving, where the car plate end-number is used to regulate when a car can use the road or not. This eases traffic somewhat but also reduces the impact of our heavily-polluted atmosphere.
*Gas prices are market-based, no longer subsidized as in the distant past.
*Incentives have been given for renewable energy ( such as modern wind mills) or geothermal energy plants ( our volcanic soil has given us the gift of natural underground energy).
*We have many advocacies to encourage things like regular tree-planting events as this is important for reforestation, also strict no-smoking rules have reduced air pollutants, and there is a law that is strict with violations of the "clean air" atmosphere ( such as burning dry leaves).
Every little thing helps...

I've been bringing cloth shopping bags to the grocery store for years and buy products made with recycled materials when the opportunity presents itself etc. Many people & organizations are trying to do their best but it may be a case of too little too late in some places. Still amazes me that many people still have their heads in the sand. I know we've had many unusual & destructive storms here in the Northeast in the past few years & I fear it's just going to get worse. I remember when Hugh spoke at that climate change meeting at the UN a few years ago...I was very impressed to say the least. Sue
