This burst of filming photos on location reminds me of our excitement when we saw the first batch of photos from WOLVERINE 3 ( aka LOGAN now) showing a grizzled Hugh Jackman, a frail Patrick Stewart on a wheelchair, and a young girl who never smiled but with bloodstains on her top and on her knuckles. Little did we know that Dafne Keen will charm and impress everyone!

I must say Hugh and Michelle both look amazing. And these set photos reminded me of Mary Poppins where the characters alsl wore clothes similar to that time period.
I can't wait to see the teaser trailer soon. Pretty sure everyone will choose this over the other movie which TGS is competing with on Dec 25

I could be wrong, but I think the first teaser/trailer will not be coming out very soon. They are still filming, although I hear film wrap is going to be very soon. Then maybe Michael Gracey and his technical people will be working in the EDIT suite on the assembly of the filmed scenes first (and also complete other aspects of post-production) ... so he can now shape everything according to his cinematic vision, with perhaps inputs from his lead producers and the studio? I am guessing but maybe the first teaser would have to depend on the publicity thrust which they would likely firm up programming after they have seen how the movie is shaping up? Will it be the same marketing people who put together the fantastic and universally-praised LOGAN trailers? Will they use the music directly from the movie itself for the trailer? I hope I am totally wrong about my prediction re the timing of the first teaser/trailer JO

The look does evoke the 19th century ( KATE AND LEOPOLD before Leopold time-travelled to Manhattan, THE PRESTIGE, even a little of LES MISERABLES) and our cast look good in their period-piece finery. But I don't really want to evoke a strong Mary Poppins vibe because I would like the musical to be perceived as a film where music, spectacle and drama all play key parts! It is also an original musical and a real American biopic story. P.T. Barnum is essentially someone from the American northeast, not Londoners like Mary Poppins/the Banks nor French like Jean Valjean/Cosette...maybe a little of The Prestige in terms of setting but a lot less dramatic accent! THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will likely be a family-friendly movie but I hope it has enough dramatic highlights in its storyline ( not just music and spectacle) to merit " serious consideration" by the AMPAS when it puts together its slate of Oscar nominations! Besides, there is a new movie coming out next year called MARY POPPINS RETURNS and maybe it's best not to identify this American-based original musical with the first MP nor its sequel Maybe it is also my personal bias but I have never been that impressed with Mary Poppins. I even chased it to its live adaptation at the West End to "discover" its magic -- but... I would rather that the comparison be with THE SOUND OF MUSIC -- there was music and there were also adorable children but the story was set within a human drama involving class and ideological/political conflicts! That enriched the storytelling immensely ... and the music was made more memorable under the circumstances in which they are sung or performed. A little song like Edelweiss ( to commemorate the tiny alpine flowers which was a symbol of the homeland) was poignant and touching in the circumstances in which it was sung ( first by Captain Von Trapp when he was first persuaded to sing by his kids and Maria, at a time when Austria was being taken over by Nazi Germany... and then the concert song which preceded that nerve-wracking escape across the Alps). There was music and spectacle and drama! I really would like to see THE GREATEST SHOWMAN regarded as a totally new musical, which while set in the past because of its biopic story structure, will infuse creativity which is modern and suits contemporary tastes! I would like it to be perceived as having its own unique identity ( not linked to other musicals in the past), just like LA LA LAND was able to develop a unique brand by itself! Jo

Sunrise? Overnight shoot?
And people think film actors's jobs are easy! They have to catch the right time of day/night and atmosphere for their desired scenes, hence we often read of overnight shoots.

Btw, if the set looks familiar, you must have watched a lot of episodes of LAW AND ORDER Also, there seems to be quite a number of children going to watch a performance with their parents, as seen on the clip. Plus of course P.T. and Charity Barnum were taking their two daughters to an evening entertainment. It couldn't be a circus, as circuses uses a big top then ( aka a tentpole?). Hmmm... if this were Christmastime ( they are wearing warm clothes), it could very well be The Nutcracker Jo

The NewYorkPost unveils the "chicanery" behind THE GREATEST SHOWMAN nypost.com/2017/04/03/hugh-jackman-circus-flick-uses-mechanical-bull-instead-of-elephant/There is a reason why the movies represent the world of make-believe! Does David Li ( author's article) honestly believe that there is a real KONG who lived on Skull Island?
Does he also truly believe that THE BEAST's face was real ( and not made up through the wonders of CGI) before he turned back into a Prince again, for BEAUTY to behold?
Does he really think that THE MARTIAN was filmed on Planet Mars...and not on Planet Hollywood?LOLOL! Jo
