Was Hugh just passing by on the way to another destination...or was he curious to stop at Besancon ( the birthplace of Victor Hugo)?

Maybe he wants a rest from swashbuckling action to segue to one of contemplation ( for THE RIVER)? Although Lake Geneva looks too big a river, Mr. Jackman


But I wonder why he has left the facial hair intact - maybe for some immediate pickups/reshoots for PAN? Or to enjoy the anonymity unexpectedly given him by the Blackbeard persona?
