A $261.78 million haul in a day-and-date opening around the world puts X-Men: Days of Future Past front and center on the global box office stage. None of the films in Fox's X-Men franchise have reached the $500 million global mark at the box office, a streak that will likely be broken with the latest installment of the mutant superhero franchise. The X-Men cross-over sequel scored the highest global opening weekend of any film in the franchise and eclipsed Avatar as the biggest Fox International opening weekend of all time.The film's day-and-date debut also accounts for the biggest global opening of 2014.

The film nearly doubled its North American box office figures overseas, where it collected a $171.08 million haul in its debut.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past"

Bryan Singer's critically acclaimed movie took a muscular $39.35 million in its first three days in the world's second largest film market.


The 20th Century Fox tentpole X-Men: Days of Future Past stormed the Chinese box office in its opening weekend, boosted by the movie’s Chinese star Fan Bingbing and a well-received visit by key cast.




The movie counted nearly 6.5 million admissions and 121,285 million screenings, making it the biggest Hollywood opening in China this year, according to data from Entgroup for the week to May 25.



Internationally, X-Men: Days of Future Past took in $191 million in its opening weekend, putting its global total at a whopping $302 million -- the best debut of any X-Men film.

Yet again, part of the success of the movie in China can be attributed to the cast visiting the mainland to sell the movie. Hugh Jackman and Peter Dinklage were in Beijing on promotional duties.

Jackman, in particular, is enormously popular in China -- The Wolverine took $38 million last year, and his previous X-Men movies and other titles like Les Miserables and Australia were also shown here.

An undoubted positive factor is the inclusion of Fan as Blink, who can teleport herself and others. This has made a big impression in China.

The opening tally puts the film just ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which took $39.23 million in its opening three days in China. That title was boosted by holiday traffic, and X-Men should have a very good weekend coming up as Monday is the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. This will most likely propel it to fresh heights...

Hugh is certainly becoming a global movie star!

Had Real Steel been exhibited in China, it could have also done very well. It did $ 22 Million in South Korea and $ 18 million in Japan.

Box Office Milestone: 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Hits Franchise Best $500M

Bryan Singer's superhero extravaganza has eclipsed the $459.4 million grossed by "X-Men: The Last Stand" in 2006.


In only its second weekend in release, X-Men: Days of Future Past has become the top-grossing title in the 20th Century Fox and Marvel superhero franchise, not accounting for inflation.


Directed by Bryan Singer, Days of Future Past took in $128.2 million globally in its second weekend for a world total of $500.2 million through Sunday, eclipsing the $459.4 million grossed by X-Men: The Last Stand in May 2006.

Days of Future Past has now earned $162.1 million domestically and $338.1 million internationally. The movie's weekend take included $32.6 million domestically and $95.6 million internationally.


The movie, costing $200 million-plus to produce, features actors from the original X-Men trilogy of films and X-Men: First Class, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, also produced Days of Future Past alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, screenwriter Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker.

The last film in the franchise, The Wolverine, grossed $416.5 million globally in 2013, while X-Men: First Class, earned $353.6 million in 2011.

Freeman also happens to be the most recognisable star on the below list, with 91 per cent of those polled having familiarity.

The runner-up slot went to the increasingly popular Kevin Hart, star of Think Like a Man Too. His 34 Positive Q Score is very impressive, despite being a full 13 points behind Freeman. Adam Sandler, who just suffered a opening weekend misfire at the US box office with Blended, ranks third among men with a 28, while Vin Diesel (Guardians of the Galaxy) is fourth with a 27.

In the newest edition of TheWrap’s Q Scores series, executive vice president Henry Schafer of the Q Scores company, focused the data on adults 18-49, as they tend to be the more frequent moviegoers.

Q Score is a widely utilised research tool used by TV networks as well as studios in determining how favourably or unfavourably celebrities are viewed by consumers and here’s how it works: Schafer’s Q Score team provides a celebrity’s name and a brief description to more than 1,800 viewers. The viewers are asked if they recognise the person, and how they feel about him or her. Most measurements were done this year, though some, like Freeman’s (2010), are older.

Also turning in strong numbers are Seth MacFarlane (A Million Ways to Die in the West) with a 25, Hugh Jackman (X-Men: Days of Future Past) with a 24 and Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: Age of Extinction) with a 23.

The males in the study averaged a 20 Q Score.

Eric Bana (Deliver Us From Evil), not so much. Bana is at the bottom with just a 9 Positive Q Score, though his last available measurement was 2009. Chris Pratt (2013, Guardians) and Josh Brolin (2010, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) each have 11’s. Though it’s important to note that their recognisability numbers are considerably lower than actors who scored higher positive Q Scores.

James McAvoy (X-Men) is up just one slot with a 12, measured in 2013. Zac Efron (Neighbors) ties with McAvoy.

Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has a 14, while a slew of actors - Chadwick Boseman (2010, Get on Up), Will Arnett (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street) - tie with 15’s.

In the cases of Pratt and Boseman, Schafer warns that the Q Score is unstable due to low familiarity.

I find it odd that Seth MacFarlane is one point up on Hugh in terms of likability. Yes, he can be very funny (as well as offensive), but likable? He doesn't radiate amiability to me.

The milestone was reached thanks to Bryan Singer's summer tentpole "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which is on the verge of becoming the top-grossing film of the year to date.


Fox and Marvel's X-Men franchise has become a $3 billion baby.


The latest outing in the superhero franchise, Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, hit $702.2 million in global ticket sales on Tuesday, pushing the combined total gross of the seven films to $3.003 billion.

Internationally, the franchise total is $1.7 billion, while the domestic cume is $1.3 billion.

Days of Future Past, combining the casts of the the first X-Men installments and X-Men: First Class, has quickly become the top-grossing title in the series. It's also on the verge of becoming the top-grossing film of the year to date, eclipsing the $703.2 million earned by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the $710.7 grossed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

LIST Hollywood's 100 Favorite Films

The movie's cast is led by Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, returned to direct Days of Future Past. He produced the $200 million-plus tentpole alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, screenwriter Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker.

The previous best was X-Men: The Last Stand, which earned $457.4 million worldwide.

Excerpts:

The biggest selling foreign movie was the 20th Century Fox tentpole X-Men: Days of Future Past, which has taken nearly $118 million so far, and benefited from Hugh Jackman and Peter Dinklage visiting Beijing to do promotional duties.

In third place was Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with $115 million and the reality TV adaptation Where Are We Going, Dad with $112 million.

In fifth place, already, was Transformers: Age of Extinction, which is on track to be the biggest selling movie of all time in the country, but was only showing for four days by the cut-off point for the six-month box office data. In those four days, M1905 said, it took $100.46 million (623 million yuan).

Both DOFP and Trensformers had also cast FanBingBing.

I'll bet that Logan and Blink will be persuaded to join the cast of APOCALYPSE ...not too sure if Bolivar Trask can also be accommodated in the storyline

On another note, the group has withdrawn its bid to buy Time-Warner.

Rupert Murdoch's media-entertainment group 21st Century Fox said Wednesday profits jumped on box-office results from its Hollywood studio and that it is looking past its failed bid for Time Warner.


The quarterly profit was $999 million, a year after a loss of $371 million for the conglomerate which operates the Fox studios and television properties.

Revenues jumped to $8.4 billion in the three months ending June 30, from $7.2 billion in the comparable period a year earlier.

The company closed out its first fiscal year since breaking off its publishing operations with an annual profit of $4.5 billion, compared with $7.1 billion based on comparable data from the previous year.

"The company's strong financial performance was driven by sustained affiliate revenue increases at our cable networks and record fourth quarter contributions at our filmed entertainment segment on the strength of global box office successes 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' 'Rio 2' and 'The Fault In Our Stars,'" Murdoch said in a statement.

"As we close the fiscal year, I continue to have confidence in our ability to execute our growth plan and drive value for our shareholders."...

This bodes well for the franchise continuing its expansion strategy.
