I know Jo, i went in 2005 also, and I agree with you about the wonderful camaraderie and enthusiasm for everyone, and the incredible excitement that was palpable in the theater.

It was so moving!he was so surprized loved it and it shows how much they like him to plan it the way they did-and boy didn't he look good!and Deb looked 10 yrs younger than she is!

That was an incredible night... Hugh and Deb both looked absolutely stunning, there was so much chemistry and very special connection between them! I'm so proud of him.

They're replaying the show again -- guess which moments I am going to be glued on the set again??? I was just enthralled watching the victorious Rafa Nadal 7th title win at the French Open -- so my TV was being switched back and forth for a while  ... Btw, VAMOS RAFA!!Back to the TONYs -- I'd better watch Godspell number, too -- that was the real surprise when the Godspell lady cast member just asked Hugh to dance with her on the aisle and he gamely took her on it. Only performance we had seen of Hugh in this TONYs ;D And of course the whole special TONY award moments involving Hugh! Jo |

Whether she's had some work done--and I think that's a given--she looked amazing. Congratulations to her for bringing her glam A-game to this worldwide telecast. Just curious, Oh, fellow Ozalots. Except for Hugh's appearance, did anyone else think the show was a big snooze? I just read a gooey and positive review in the L.A. Times and wondered if the reviewer watched the same crushingly unoriginal set of performances from rehashed (old musicals, movies) sources that I endured. I understand the economics, but still, I found it depressingly that these were the best of Broadway. Even NPH's big numbers were pale copies of what he did last year.

I did have the same disappointing feeling. I love the theatre but the show did not sparkle as it should!

I'm really hoping someone will post a complete Hugh award video from the intro of Deb, Hugh's delightful, surprised face, her speech, all the way through his acceptance. So far only the acceptance is showing up on YouTube.  |

If it had been up to me, in an ideal world I'd have voted for "no award" for Best Musical this year. Yes, NEWSIES and NICE WORK had some good moments that pleased me, and I could appreciate the smart crafting of ONCE which otherwise was blah and whiny, but none of the above soared, which is what a Best Musical should do. (Forced to choose, I'd go for the silly, goofy NICE WORK, but only in protest.) For that same reason, I thought no musical should have been tapped the year MEMPHIS won. But what can the Wing do? It has to put on a show that advertises Broadway. Yes, the plays were the big plus this year, but on the whole, tourists come to see musicals more than straight plays. Maybe they should change the Best Musical category to "Least Lousy."

well Ellen the presentations made me want to go see Nice work. And Newsies I thought Ghost was strange but it was a great show and Hugh's surprise was so exciting for him. Adorable and he sure looked gorgeous!!!

Well, he wasn't at the morning rehearsal. She probably meant that when they first saw each other later that day, that's when he let the cat out of the bag. It was still a lovely moment, but I must admit I was a little bummed to learn he'd known.

WOW, Cheryl, I had no idea of those prices. Even if Hugh were hosting and you'd get to see him a lot throughout the event, those are big bucks...
On the bright side, this morning I really appreciated the first page of the "People" section of my local paper: let me attempt to share.

My random two cents... Those hazel eyes kill me. According to the interview with Amanda Syfried, Hugh learned Deb would be presenting in the morning. I thought Amanda looked horrible. Except for Hugh, the show was boring. Even NPH was dull, all I could think while watching him was that Hugh's charisma would have jumped through the screen were he presenting the same material. Without trying, he leaves everyone in the dust. In fact, he would purposefully make himself less charismatic (as if he could) in order NOT to upstage anyone. He never disappoints. What a special, special person.
