His first cameo role in XMEN :FIRST CLASS even won awards and was famous for stealing the movie. I have been planning to see it for a number of reasons, except our local release won't be till early January, after a festival of local movies has completed its yearly event. Hugh must have been delighted to do the cameo, not only as a favor to Shawn Levy ( Real Steel) but also for his children ( he used to take them there)? Jo |

Despite some early fairly negative reviews, the movie ( NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 3) is said to have 2 inspired moments, one of which is the Jackman cameo -- www.dailyherald.com/article/20141218/entlife/141218553/Hugh as King Arthur in CAMELOT, albeit for only " one brief shining moment"  I wonder if Hugh readily accepted the cameo because it brought him back to his early childhood, when he played King Arthur in Camelot as a 5-year old Aussie boy? Hugh must have told the producers that he's been referred to as "Hugh Ackman" in the past. I remember one such instance in an episode of WILL AND GRACE.

Saw this movie tonight and Hugh's part was soooo funny! To me this was more than a cameo. There's no mistaking his singing voice either when you first hear it. Thought it was hilarious...especially the part where he...........

Thanks, Hughmanity  I've been excited to see it -- but can't see the movie yet, because a local film festival takes precedence during the holiday week over foreign films here   One of my three favorite musicals has been CAMELOT. I've wished that Hugh would one day reprise the role he sang when he was 5 years old. So, here it is, if only "for one brief shining moment" smiley-happy082 Did he actually sing that reprise from Camelot? Jo |

Hi NatalieAvery Sorry, I never meant to imply that the dual performing identity was an original conclusion/finding on my part. I have not even seen Museum 3 yet although I plan to be there the first day the movie hits town ( Manila). Not just for the cameo, but because I took extra pains to spend several hours at the Natural History Museum in NYC in my last trip and was even excitedly informed by one staff that filming took place there for this sequel. Loved the hours spent being fascinated by the dinosaurs ( so huge they are overwhelming!), by the minerals ( one of my favorite science aspects), the biodiversity displays, the historical dioramas. the origami Christmas trees, even the Museum shop where I tried to find a black mineral approximating what I saw in The River ( but had to settle for a grey/black agate piece) -- so sorry my feet could not walk any further to explore other things...I did not run into Ben Stiller though ... I have also spent time at the British Museum in the past - but did not meet Ben Kingsley either, just some mummy relatives  ...And I used to be able to spend a lot of time at the West End -- which is where I discovered Hugh in Oklahoma! some 15 years ago ... I only meant to highlight in my post that the cameo works on several levels -- that Hugh is a rare talent because he is a musical theatre star on Broadway and a major movie star in Hollywood. Johnny Depp may have sung in Sweeney Todd ( the film adaptation) but has not appeared on stage - plays or musicals. Anne Hathaway has sung in ENCORES in NYC but that was not considered Broadway. And the incredible contrast of a triple threat talent onstage versus a superhero film star must impress a lot of people. That was why his BBC spoof of Who Am I (sung by Wolverine) found more than 3 million hits on YouTube.I am also extra thrilled that he is playing King Arthur ( Camelot is one of my 3 favorite musicals, along with Les Miserables and Man of La Mancha) and that he sings Arthur's song even if only " for one brief shining moment" Aren't we lucky that we are among those who are able to appreciate Hugh's rare performing gift to the full smiley-happy082 Jo |

EDIT: You can ignore the next paragraphs because I misheard what I saw -LOL! A good friend corrected my hearing lapse
The script and the actors did it right Arthur sang the right lyrics when he meets Guinevere -- "In short, there's simply not a more congenial spot for happy ever-aftering than here in Camelot"Thanks, Hugh!
*I am right now listening to my CD of CAMELOT, with Richard Burton, Julie Andrews, and Robert Goulet (sorry, but the movie musical is only my second alternative, even if I thought Vanessa Redgrave portrayed a more sensuous Guinevere). Right now, Robert Goulet's voice is booming with " C'est Moi" ( that is like the character Lancelot of Night at the Musem, played by Dan Stevens - he should have sang that bit -LOL!).
*Hugh's costume is so much like what Richard Burton wore, that the memory evoked is even more resonant.
*Maybe I will rewatch the film version as well.
But back to the cameo -- I did not think it would last that long. It looks like Hugh improvised his dialog and his acting stance ...That Wolverine moment was so unexpected (even if "Guinevere" thought he should have had his claws with him, rather than the fake short sword ).
Hope it gets to YouTube sooner than expected.
Btw, except for some over the top scenes ( the snake scene was too long, for example), I thought this finale in the trilogy is quite fun. That Pompeii scene reminds me of the excavated city that one can visit these days....Of course I keep tracing what I actually saw at the American Natural History Museum last month compared to the scenes in the movie...The other day, I saw a docu about the Museum, which explained why President Teddy Roosevelt figures prominently in the museum. It seems that he led a major expedition, after his presidential terms, which yielded many riches, artifacts, to the museum.
I hope I can have another chance to visit the Museum

Re your Youtube remark, I actually tried to upload a recording I'd made several weeks ago, but it was flagged instantly for copyright violation and blocked. So ... maybe they will be less attentive after some months, but I'm not excited to try again. That explains why it hasn't shown up yet though!

Jo, CAMELOT was the second OCR (original cast recording) I memorized as a pre-teen. My 7th grade English teacher brought in two albums, GUYS AND DOLLS and CAMELOT--I forget what relevance they had to the subject matter at hand--but those got me interested in musical theater.
I'm so looking forward to seeing that MUSEUM movie!

Oops, I hadn't realized that some people over there may not have seen it yet. Sorry for the spoilers, Ellen But what a coincidence how CAMELOT, the musical, has influenced some of us -- *Hugh was 5 years old when he was part of some singing from the show ( I wonder, was he King Arthur, too?) and that got him interested at that tender age in musicals. *As you stated, you ended up memorizing the songs of Camelot *Moi - I can't remember when I first heard the music, but the musical has always stuck in my memory cells. I do remember that my first copy of a recording was one of those early formats, which the tropical weather sort of warped. When I first came to NYC, I was lucky to have seen Robert Goulet in a local public appearance...and then eventually in Happy Time. I never saw Richard Burton and Julie Andrews onstage but apart from seeing their movies, I do have a copy of Burton's Hamlet video recording. I do remember reading a lot about King Arthur and his knights...and even joined a tour in the UK which supposedly found a location which may been the site of Camelot. Of course, it is still debatable whether Camelot actually existed but the legend inspired Lerner and Lowe enough to have composed such a score, following their success with My Fair Lady. I do like dramatic musicals, and that was why it joins Les Miserables and Man of La Mancha as my top favorites over the years. Jo |
