We've just welcomed His Holiness, Pope Francis, to our shores!
He will be staying here for 4 days on his pastoral mission, which will include a visit to the area which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The Vatican press office also confirmed that the Pope is here in connection with the fifth centenary of the evangelization of the nation. The Philippines is predominantly Roman Catholic and counts around 80 million of those who profess the faith.
It has been one of the warmest and most affectionate welcomes seen here for a very long time. People have waited for more than half a day just to see a glimpse of him in his Pope Mobile. His smile was so warm and sincere that people who lined he route were shouting with joy at the sight of him.
Hope his visit will inspire our people even more!
