Absolutely, Jo! What spirit! Amazing, repeated comebacks after being down in the score. And he must have been exhausted after so many hours of playing to advance to the semifinals and to win gold in the doubles and not enough time to rest and recuperate. What sportsmanship! And yes, patriotism too! He sure set the bar high. What an example for children from all over the world. Good for him. Alma

But sad to say there have been some occasions in the RIO games where athletes who are supposed to be drawn together as a family because of their common love of sports are at odds in dealing with each other! Even sadder are incidents that mar the experience for these athletes such as the robbery incident that was harrowing for Lochte and his fellow swimmers.
Of course there are also some brilliant unexpected finishes. Andy Murray won his second gold in tennis although that was not such a surprise... The tennis women's singles gold was won by Monica Puig of Puerto Rico who is relatively much lower-ranked...and gave her countryman Lin Manuel Miranda of HAMILTON such joy ( hey, he might even compose another musical in praise)...the USA women's gymnastics performance led by Zac Efron's textmate...of course Usain Bolt proving once again why he is the fastest man on earth. Our country is usually medal-less, but not this year -- a female Filipino athlete ( who is with the airforce) won a silver medal for weightlifting ( and we are overjoyed) in probably much the same way as the Singaporean swimmer who idolized Michael Phelps and actually beat Michael in one event, which lone gold has given such joy to his nation...and the extraordinary performance of American swimmer Katie Ledecky.
There are still many surprises in tow!

Is anyone else surprised they have not used the song during Olympic coverage, whether background, promotional, feature story, lead-in, or whatever? Seems like a natural choice. Maybe they didn't have the rights, or maybe I missed it!

I too was surprised that we haven't heard "Rio" during the games. It's such a joyful piece of music. Perhaps during the closing ceremonies? As a Marylander, I am full of pride at the accomplishments of "our" Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. It was especially satisfying to see Michael end his swimming career on such a positive note. He went through some very difficult times a few years ago, and it seemed doubtful that he would be able to turn things around. His determination to come back and once again compete at the highest possible level is admirable. Of course, Boomer is the darling of all the locals - our equivalent of Prince George. Today I saw a photo of Michael Phelps asking for Katie Ledecky's autograph - a reference to the picture of a six-year-old Katie asking for Michael's autograph. She is simply a phenomenon; I believe she will dominate the sport of women's swimming for years to come. Carol

Maybe they didn't have the rights, or maybe I missed it! If you were watching Australian TV , you'd have heard it many times over the last few weeks. Unfortunately not Hugh's version though or Peter Allen's.
