This is an elegy worth every word! A tear almost fell while reading some of the most poignant parts! georgetownvoice.com/2017/11/14/logan-death-of-the-superhero/Every Oscar voter should read this elegiac review! The message of the film, the cinematic execution, the powerful performances are all worth a Best Picture win! And I wish FOX had more faith in it than simply banking on favored names in the business in a retelling of a political/historical drama! The Oscars should hail the triumph of humanity and LOGAN is well worth all the accolades it has received! Jo

Not a true review of the movie, but the legend of LOGAN haunts The Last JEDI! screenrant.com/last-jedi-logan-luke-skywalker-better-story-death/An interesting comparison of how Logan's final journey seems like the inspiration for the final journey of Luke Skywalker...and coming to the conclusion that the Logan end-saga was the more meaningful and emotionally devastating final storytelling!

Not a review … but it seems the new JOKER origin movie ( with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker) is going to be patterned from the LOGAN artistic direction. uproxx.com/hitfix/kevin-smith-dc-comics-joker-origin-logan/Excerpts -- LOGAN worked because the story of Logan's/Wolverine's start of his strong disenchantment with his life started in THE WOLVERINE ( and from other references in other previous XMen movies) Thus the finale movie was expected to move towards a certain direction...and that was how the storyline and character development were written and how Hugh's portrayal was directed. It is a good sign that LOGAN is being used as some sort of filmmaking standard for a superhero movie. The fact that it was the first one of its genre to merit an Oscar nomination for its screenplay has inspired others to pursue similar storytelling models. Jo

A retrospective on LOGAN. Long article - but thoughtful and a very human look at the end-story of Wolverine!
"LIKED" by Hugh Jackman, too! Per his Twitter account.

On the project theme being the sole idea of Mangold and his co-writers and how the project secured Fox's approval -- *Hugh posted on social media a graphic image of Wolverine with one claw extended and labelled it ONE LAST TIME. That was 2 years before LOGAN was finally released. He might have talked about the idea of it after he and Mangold completed The Wolverine but I do not think it came solely from Mangold. http://instagram.com/p/5qJTvZChO3 This was posted 61 weeks ago by Hugh - over 5 years ago (circa early 2015 … if I recall right after the Apocalypse debacle, where Hugh had some expectations about a meaningful role in that movie but was left out from the main storyline) *Hugh did say that the main theme came to him … and he decided to send his thoughts to Mangold immediately. To Mangold's credit, he gave the storyline and characters the depth and heft which made the movie very special. It was a collaborative effort of both Hugh and Mangold. Also, the noir version gave the story and its characters a different shade of appreciation for the movie - it gave it an even more human and more dramatic appeal. EDIT: Old post re the above --*I doubt that it was Mangold's relationship with FOX which pushed the project. It was likely Hugh's successful longtime association with FOX's most successful franchise and maybe his links with the movers and shakers at the studio which pushed the project to the cooperative stance of FOX. Although I thought it was stingy of them to have cut the budget and and was unappreciative of them not to give full support to a new way to depict a very human story, dressed up as a superhero movie.
