http://instagram.com/p/BaKXno4nBmv Sorry, the Instagram image/message is not loading properly. The image is two sides of a coin designed for THE FRONT RUNNER. Here's the message -- Hashtag says "halfwaypoint" -- has it really flown that fast? This is supposedly a short shoot (and filming started mid-September). And principal photography was supposed to end in early to mid-November.

Finished the book THE FRONT RUNNER last night. Very interesting! There are several parts that stand out as being very cinematic. I'm sure Reitman will make good choices in direction while filming this story.

Will Reitman adapt the book ( "All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid" by Matt Bai) faithfully...or given Reitman's strong film characterizations, will he and his screenwriters give us a slightly different adaptation?
Kathy -- there was some description that the film will be a political drama but with emphasis on how media changed the ballgame. Did the book itself highlight the comedic aspect of this historical drama given the way media has become involved beyond reporting the usual political statements and public appearances of political candidates?
Per EW --

The tabloid turning point was when the media staked out the alley behind Hart's house to observe his arrival with Donna Rice. I suppose this could be played for comedy, but it didn't seem funny in the book. Also, there was a game changing Hart press conference when questions were asked about Rice instead of policy. Perhaps the press madness, stalking, etc. could provide comedy. There's also a part toward the end where Hart spots a mountain lion in a tree, and feels a certain camaraderie with the cornered animal. That part was kind of sad, but perhaps some monologue there could add to the irony of feeling trapped.

Thanks, Kathy.
Depending on Reitman's cinematic vision -- this could be a satire or a foreshadowing of the current role of media ( antagonist? click-bait experts? provocative opinion-makers? investigative reporters?) in a nation's life and the impact on the more aware public.
This is a different kind of role for Hugh ( he has been involved in movies with high drama, light comedy, social issues, etc.) but never in a role where he portrays a character of national prominence brought into the limelight because of his own failings.
Hmmm...I wonder if THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is also a cinematic commentary on a controversial character in his time?
Hope he is now shaping a more challenging second phase of his career.

I guess he's acting here, in this scene I read a tweet which said they were filming in his school GSU ( Georgia State University? ). Jo

All that effort and Bale is probably gonna win next year, he is playing politician too and looks even worse than Hugh with that dead animal on his head

I'm keen to find out if Oscar politics has changed in Hollywood - with Weinstein out of the picture ( re his questionable practices for awards-glory in his heyday) and after the last two years expansion of AMPAS membership. In 2017, approx. 700-800 new voters were added ( but coming from diverse representation with quite a few coming from outside the USA). I think it was a similar situation in 2016, as part of the old board's strong push for diversification. Interestingly -- Does the "white-old-male" demos still hold that much sway in the AMPAS voting? What about the Guild voting ( SAG in particular because they vote for nominees for acting honors). Also, it seems that the studios are keener to launch strong campaigns this year ( whereas in the past, the indie houses were quite prominent).
Not saying that Bale did not deserve his Supporting Actor Oscar but the WEINSTEIN COMPANY was a producer of THE FIGHTER movie. And there was too much noise about Harvey Weinstein's corrupt practices in securing awards honors for his projects.
Hmmm...

One key factor -- who will distribute THE FRONT RUNNER? While BRON is the studio identified with the project, will they seek a linkage with one of the 6 major studios for rights distribution? BRON is a Canadian studio.
I remember that EDDIE THE EAGLE was co-produced by Matthew Vaughn's production outfit with the German film studio Babelsberg, but the movie was eventually distributed by FOX studios in the USA and by Lionsgate in the UK ( if I remember correctly).
Btw, Jason Reitman's acclaimed Oscar-nominated movie JUNO was released through FOX Searchlight.
