This review written in early 2018 ( but which surfaced online only recently) is a fair and honest measure of the movie -- the kind of review that should have been from most critics! www.filminquiry.com/the-greatest-showman-2017-review/His assessment of the movie as "an enjoyable musical fantasy" is the right perspective to see the movie! As it was originally intended by the creators of this movie musical! My main comment was the fairly lack of appreciation for the musical score written by Pasek&Paul. Although I agree that thematically speaking, A MILLION DREAMS laid the foundation for the whole movie and the characterizations. Also, because of strict screenwriting rules from the WGA, no credit was given to Michael Arndt, who was acknowledged generously by Michael Gracey in his Director's commentary. He was attributed for many of the remarkable dialog and ideas in the film ( such as the appearance of the elephant as Barnum's means of transport at the finale... which was actually due to the fact that he found his horse and carriage stuck in the snow when he was trying to rush to his daughters's recital). His comments about the excellence of the main cast is a right conclusion. This movie should have won an award for Best Ensemble at the SAG had the awards community been fairer and less intimidated by the bad reviews! Where could you find an excellent troupe ( main cast ) who are triple-threats and are also excellent actors? Jo
