It must be a little distracting to film in public places...but on the other hand, it must also be heartwarming when one is received warmly by those watching the shooting.

Maybe having a stage background, where an actor gets used to being viewed live, helps in some way.

Filming started this week on “Bad Education,” a film starring Hugh Jackman about disgraced former Roslyn Schools Superintendent Frank Tassone, according to the movie's publicist.

Mike Makowsky (“Open 24 Hours,” "I Think We’re Alone Now”), who grew up in Roslyn during the scandal, wrote the movie, which has already drawn criticism from the Roslyn school district.

Tassone was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison in 2006 for his role in an $11 million embezzlement scheme involving the district, which was ranked as one of the nation’s top schools at the time. He was released from prison in 2010, eight months and four days earlier than his minimum sentence.

The publicist for the film said filming started on Monday. She said she did not know the exact location but that the filming was expected to last the “standard” four to six weeks.


However, a Roslyn High School 10th-grader, Justin Weisser, 15, said he photographed filming Thursday in front of a private house on Elm Drive.

“I heard reports of him [Jackman] being around here,” Justin said. He said he saw a scene being filmed of “a guy coming out of the house and being placed into a police car.”

A district spokesman could not be reached for comment and a spokeswoman for the Nassau Police Department said the police had no knowledge of any movie being shot in Roslyn this week.

Meanwhile, in a previous prepared statement about the film, the district said, “The school district is not associated with the movie or its production, is not participating in this movie in any way, and no filming will be permitted on school grounds.”

Roslyn ( New York) itself is wary of the potential negative impact on its image and is completely hands-off from the film project.

The scandal did happen ( and the movie will portray how that came about)… but I doubt that it will be meant to put down the school community as it seems more focused on the characters' dramas. It is not a documentary though and is not likely to include the part which narrates the reforms that Roslyn schools have undergone since then. We'll see.

Will the "4-6 weeks" standard filming include interior shots ( likely filmed on a sound stage)?

What about other filming locations ( maybe a Manhattan apartment or what looks like one), as per the storyline ?

But it seems they can wrap all the filming before the holidays?

Don't bother to read some of the ...er… unflattering comments ( such as Hugh's hair, clothes, looks, and demeanor) -- they simply wrote comments without realizing that he is portraying a character in a movie that is being filmed. Someone did chide them for not reading first before making asinine comments

"Flanked by body guards" DM, surely you jest! The guy on Hugh's left is his dialect coach, Jess Platt. The man on Hugh's right is his longtime friend and assistant. Hardly bodyguards! LOL
