From what I understand -- it is not so much an emphasis on the life of Gary Hart...but more of a retelling and examining how the course of history changed at the time when he was the leading candidate for a presidential run in the USA. As the book on which the movie is based emphasized on its title : it was the week when the practice of journalism took a different turn.
"All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid" - the movie examines the events and thinking that led to that.
Maybe people expect that the movie is focused on a biopic of a once-famous political figure? And not on an important social commentary!
