It seems BILLY'S SOLILOQUY ( aka My Boy Bill) might be a feature in his upcoming tour. He sang it again at the NearnessOfYou Benefit concert.

If he is able to invite Audra McDonald to his MSG shows --

Jackman's dream list includes Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Kelly Clarkson and "Audra McDonald, who I did 'Carousel' with the first time I sang in America. By the way, I haven't asked any of them yet!"

will they sing arguably the alltime favorite romantic show tune - IF I LOVED YOU ?

Due to (very) insistent public demand ( and many hurt feelings) and many complaints that he covered every country in the British Isles except for Scotland -- Hugh has now added 2 dates to his tour schedule, at Glasgow! He will now actually open his tour in Glasgow on May 7 & 8, 2019!

Hugh Jackman is set to perform at the Brit Awards with a song from The Greatest Showman. The 50-year-old will be opening the annual music award show next week even though the hit movie’s soundtrack is nominated. A source told The Sun: ‘Brits bosses did everything they could to sign up Hugh. ‘He may not be as cool as the younger stars performing on the night, but he will certainly be the most popular.’ The Wolverine star will join Little Mix, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and Pink who will also perform at the ceremony in London’s O2 Arena next Wednesday, hosted by Jack Whitehall live on ITV.

(Photo: Rex Features)The insider added: ‘They are banking on his opening performance being a must-see for fans of the movie and are convinced he will be enough to persuade older viewers to tune in. ‘Because it was a soundtrack it didn’t fit into any obvious awards categories but it has been the biggest thing in music for years so they had to acknowledge it somehow.’ Metro.co.uk have contacted the Brits for a comment. He played circus ringmaster P.T. Barnum in the hit 2017 film, which also starred Zac Efron and Michelle Williams.

The soundtrack to The Greatest Showman, which features songs This Is Me and Never Enough, was the biggest selling album of 2018 in the UK with 1.6 million sales. Although it may be a bit unusual to see the Hollywood star on stage singing, the movie star will take a break from shooting films and hit the stage this year for a world tour of musical hits. Hugh will be performing songs from a number of musicals he has appeared in, including The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables, the Boy from Oz and Oklahoma.

The 50-year-old will be opening the annual music award show next week even though the hit movie’s soundtrack is nominated.

Grammy-winning Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is set to open this year’s Brit Awards with a performance from “The Greatest Showman.” Jackman, who has previously won Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe awards, won a Grammy Sunday night for the compilation soundtrack for visual media for “The Greatest Showman.” The film’s director, Michael Gracey, will also handle the creative direction of Jackman’s Brits performance.

Brits chairman Jason Iley, who is also chairman and CEO of Sony Music U.K. and Ireland, said the performance was set “to be nothing short of spectacular.” “It’s only fitting that the U.K.’s biggest celebration of musical successes should be kicked off with a performance from the biggest-selling album in the U.K. of the last year,” said Iley.

“The Greatest Showman” opened in the U.K. on Dec. 29, 2017 and went on to gross £47.4 million ($63.7 million) in the market, becoming the sixth highest grossing film of 2018. The film’s soundtrack was the U.K.’s best-selling album of 2018, selling 1.77 million copies and becoming only the second album in 30 years to spend 11 consecutive weeks as the U.K. no. 1, matching Adele’s “21.” It has sold 5.4 million records worldwide.



In May Jackman will kick off a world tour of his one-man show “The Man, the Music, the Show,” which includes five performances at London’s O2 Arena, where the Brit Awards will take place on Feb. 20.

Jackman joins a line-up of confirmed performers for the Brits that also includes Grammy-winner Dua Lipa. The British singer, who won awards as British breakthrough act and female solo artist at the Brits in 2018, won best new artist at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. She will perform on “One Kiss,” her collaboration with Calvin Harris, which is nominated in both British single and British artist video categories, where it will compete with Lipa’s own track “IDGAF.”

Last week it was announced that American singer Pink was to become the first international star to receive the Brit Awards’ special prize for outstanding contribution to music.

Sometimes we forget that many of pop music's royalty are/were Brits -- The Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Queen ( Freddy Mercury), Adele, etc.

Hugh is not really from the world of pop music, not even that of music-only. But he has welcomed the challenges that were accidentally brought on by work opportunities which opened for him in musical theatre. He always says that he was even required to take weekly singing lessons just to be able to portray Gaston musically-speaking


And that has led him to this --


*Winning a Grammy

*Opening the awards show THE BRITS which is equivalent to the Grammys!

*And being the ringmaster for an album that was considered the best-selling album worldwide in 2018!


I wonder - will his Oscar ( we all hope that will come soon) come from another musical or from demonstration of his formal training as a dramatic actor

It was BACK ON BROADWAY, not a solo NorthAmerican tour...otherwise a good summary of his rise to fame

But the film was a success story in the waiting. It featured two of the best marketing advantages going – a killer soundtrack and Jackman.

While it is true that his first major work opportunities were in musical theatre, Hugh Jackman has always intended to focus his career primarily as a dramatic actor on stage ( he did train in dramatic acting) and also on film (Erskineville Kings was an early proof of that). As he has said, he was "an actor who fell into singing"! Now that the Wolverine part of his career seems to have waned by his own decision, he has returned to dramatic acting even if his major success after LOGAN has been in part-drama/part musical (The Greatest Showman). So, while it is also true that his career has been interspersed with musicals both on stage and film, he seems to be focusing more on proving his serious acting talent to be a major challenge in the "back nine" of his career! While there is his upcoming music tour...and his expressed desire to make a few more movie musicals or even return to a book musical on Broadway, he is also actively exploring acting opportunities in biopics and other non-musical dramas.

I think the words of THE GUARDIAN which seems to insinuate that he started his career mainly, and as intended, as a musicals actor and is now just transitioning to dramatic acting is not a correct impression. The comparison with Lady Gaga does not seem to hold true ( Lady Gaga was primarily a singer...who is now exploring film roles which are music-based... and maybe even more later).
