Just saw this same TV spot aired on NBC during Access Hollywood!  (about 7:45 pm in NY metro area) Ad mentioned the additional MSG matinee show.

I'm amazed at all the shows he's added. After Australia I would think he will need to do Japan. I got tickets for both nights in SLC as it is relatively close to Seattle and more desirable a location than Detroit, but have to say was shocked to learn he added a second show in SLC. I'm assuming the big guest appearances will be in the major markets but that's OK. Just checked on prices for Hollywood Bowl (not selling yet) and the prices are staggering for the close-up seats. I sure hope his vocal cords hold up and that he gets some good massages and vocal therapy on the flights between cities.

It does seem as though he's treating this like a Broadway show. The biggest difference is that he isn't doing these exhausting performances in the city where he lives. There will be different hotel rooms in each city as well as travel time to be factored in. Hugh at 50 is in better shape than the overwhelming majority of the population at any age, but this has to be more challenging than the unbelievable feat of The Boy From Oz, when he was in his mid-thirties. He said that he's training hard, but adding too many shows risks turning his dream tour into a nightmare. You're right, Jo - he definitely needs to rest as much as possible.

When they say SOLD OUT, are they referring only to the Inventory meant for Pre-Sale...or have entire inventories of tickets been already offered for sale?

So many wistful social media posts on not being able to attend any of the shows because the tickets are not affordable.

Is there some kind of RUSH/LOTTERY ticket policy ( as on Broadway) for large arena shows, so a small number ( say 30-50 or so of the total arena attendance for the show) who could not afford the show tickets have a chance to be admitted to the show? The tickets could be reserved mainly for students or senior people or anyone interested in the show (but not scalpers), as an example ( I have forgotten who gets qualified to buy RUSH/LOTTERY tickets on Broadway)?

Hugh Jackman Discusses Upcoming Arena Tour: "I Found My Natural Voice"

When Hugh Jackman takes stage during his upcoming world tour, he’ll borrow a page from Frank Sinatra’s book.
“I go up as Hugh, then I’ll switch,” Hugh Jackman, 50, explains. “[Sinatra’s] soundchecks were inordinately long. He would sit at a stool at the piano and have the music out. Someone said to him, ‘Frank, I think you know the songs by now.’ He goes, ‘No, no, no. I'm reading the lyrics. I've got to get into the head and the world of that character.’”

Jackman pauses, then sings the opening line to “One For My Baby (And One More For The Road).”

“Even in Vegas, doing his thing, that's where he was going,” Jackman says. “That's what I do. I'm an actor. It's challenging. But these are all characters that I've probably done 400 times. It's a state of mind and a commitment. I think the audiences really enjoy the transformation.”



In 2019, Jackman hits road as an actor, dancer and singer, playing in arenas across North America and Europe. The show hopes to be a culmination of performances spanning the Australian’s career. Throughout the evening, the crowd will get a first-hand experience with The Greatest Showman’s P.T. Barnum, Les Misérables’ Jean Valjean and more characters from the actor’s repertoire.

Hot off the success of the 2017 smash-hit musical The Greatest Showman, Jackman can now play roles at his own volition.
“I'm at a point, weirdly, where I can probably do almost any show on Broadway if I'm in the mood for it,” he says. “It's a weird time for me.”

Jackman emphasizes that the film was never a sure ticket to success. While director Michael Gracey predicted it would be a Christmastime classic, it took around eight years to become a reality.



“Almost every part of The Greatest Showman has been a surprise,” Jackman says. “There was a real possibility it wasn't going to happen at one point. Of course, it all sounds easy now.”

Today, it isn’t shocking the film catapulted Jackman to the world’s largest stages. The success of The Greatest Showman, its music and the pop star renditions on The Greatest Showman: Reimagined have reached far and wide outside any single age group or target audience.

“My very unscientific way of measuring success of films is the being-stopped-in-the-street method,” Jackman says laughing. “I have been stopped on the street so many more times by The Greatest Showman — young kids and their parents — than any other thing that I've ever done.”



He continues: “My daughter does dance for the last five years. I go and watch her like any other parent. Class finishes, we leave. Literally, after The Greatest Showman, I walked in and I heard 60 young girls in their tutus going, 'Oh, P.T. Barnum! P.T. Barnum!’ My daughter was like, ‘You are not coming to dance again!’”



At 10 years old, one of Jackman’s teachers told him he could be a talented dancer. Although his school lacked the proper programs, he asked his father for dancing lessons. But not everyone close to Jackman was encouraging.

“My brother overheard and goes, ‘Oh, you sissy!’” Jackman says. “He didn't actually say sissy, but another word. You get it? I was 10, I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘Well, only sissies dance.’ I'm like, ‘I'm not a sissy.’ He goes, ‘Well, then you don't dance.’ So I didn't dance.”

Years later, when Jackman and his family went to see 42nd Street that his brother had a change of heart.
“At interval, my brother came out and he said, ‘I said something so stupid to you years back. You belong up on that stage. I’m really sorry,’” Jackman says. “I enrolled the very next day for dance class.”



Now, Jackman is making up for those lost years. Although he performed in a number of musical productions throughout his career — including Oklahoma in 1998 — he says age 11-16 is a key developmental time for a dancer. He posits the new tour as an evolution of the last seven years, after he first performed for Australian arenas in 2011. Over the last year in particular, he’s been singing and dancing daily.

“There has been a regret and a little bit of, ‘What can I do if I really committed?’” Jackman says. “Not just like, ‘I'm in a show and I'm going to spend three months doing that number.’ What if I spend years? This tour is going to be, ‘Well, this is where I'm at.’ I'm just hoping my ambition is not in complete odds with my age.”

In addition to extra tap dance practice, Jackman has been fine-tuning his voice. For The Greatest Showman, the creators enlisted a new singing coach to mold Jackman’s pop side, as opposed to his more “Broadway” style.
“I didn’t know I had a style,” Jackman says with a laugh.

He cites the Australian production of Beauty and The Beast in 1996, where he outright copied the voice of his teacher at his audition. Today, he’s finally singing from his own perspective.

“I feel like I found my natural voice,” Jackman says.


For the 2019 Hugh Jackman World Tour: The Man, The Music, The Show, he hopes the shows feel intimate, even they’re in venues like Madison Square Garden and Manchester Arena.

“There's something sacred to me about live [performance],” Jackman says. “I want people to feel when they come that something happened that night that only happened that night. It's like a little secret that we have.”

On top of performing tunes from The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables, Jackman will also bust out songs from The Boy from Oz and sing standards by the likes of Fred Astaire, Irving Berlin and Gene Kelly. He’s also excited to perform some tunes he’d otherwise be unable to, like songs from Dear Evan Hansen, another hit musical composed by The Greatest Showman duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek.

He even jokes that there will be some superheroes involved.

“There will be a Wolverine kickline,” Jackman says laughing. “I'm about to call Ryan Reynolds because I do think it would be quite cool if Ryan made an appearance somewhere along, as Deadpool!”


As for special guests, he hopes to recruit The Greatest Showman castmate Keala Settle, Police frontman Sting, Late Night host James Corden, Tony-Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and many more. And he aspires to funnel some of the energy of his favorite performers: Hugo Weaving, Michael Jackson, Tim Blake Nelson, Jay-Z, Chance The Rapper, Janelle Monae and Colin Hay of Men at Work.



As for the success of The Greatest Showman, Jackman says it all comes back to the music, the message and timing.
“The story had a lot of heart,” Jackman says. “It's a very earnest story about being yourself, following your dreams, not letting anybody else get in your way and being proud of that. Be proud of the quirky part of you. Don't spend all your energy trying to be like everybody else. That just seemed to come at a time where, collectively, I feel people needed positivity. The whole world was like, ‘I want to hear that everything's going to be okay. I want to hear that I can be me.’”

Do you think it would be enough for him to rest for one or two months? He will have to train until the beginning of the tour, physically train himself to support the efforts of dancing on stage while singing and train his voice to hold up for so many shows. He's an actor, not a pop singer used to arenas and stadiums like Ricky Martin, a world tour is not like Broadway. I also have to admit that lately he looks very thin, his cheeks are hollowed out, bony and his eyes are often bloodshot. Ok, I am aware that his natural body is thin and his muscular mass was increased with Wolverine training, so by ceasing that type of training he came back leaner, nevertheless, you notice an early aging in him if you compare his photos taken one or two years ago with those of today and I'm not talking about professional photo shoots but candid photos. I counted the total dates of this tour and it seems that more will be added. Once he said that being on stage makes him lose weight a lot and in a very fast way after every show, if already now he appears so thin, what will happen to him after completing the whole tour? I'm afraid he want to prove that he could run with the faster crowd, I hope I'm wrong, but I cannot help being worried about him.
