Be interesting to know how they show will go, communications-wise. It is easy with song and dance. But when he tells his stories - will there be surtitles ( just like in opera)? Most of the tweets welcoming or giving messages to Hugh are in Spanish... although many of the audiences are likely bi-lingual, given the proximity of Mexico to the USA. For movies, it is likely that they get either movies as is or which are dubbed or have subtitles? But music is a universal language - so, maybe the appreciation of the show will be similar So, "Hola!" to Hugh for the grand finales of his 90-show music tour, TheMan.TheMusic.TheShow! And "Muchas Gracias!" to Hugh for giving us many hours of wonderful and joyous live entertainment Jo

Western Europe does welcome a lot of English-speaking tourists now, especially when the Schengen rules made it easier to come and go, so there is a natural progression to the wide use of the English language. In France it wasn't always so - there was a time when Paris and surrounding areas preferred not to speak English - but now it is widely spoken. I noticed that some parts of the south ( Nice and Monte Carlo) spoke English regularly, much earlier than their northern cousins... The French have even adopted some English words into the local language, such as "le weekend". I have been to all those countries mentioned (Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland...as well as Italy, Spain, Denmark, Greece, Turkey - and many are adapting to the lingua franca, which is English at the moment). But when Hugh was in Turkey, someone was translating the press conference...and there seems to be surtitles at the live show.
I just noticed that most Hugh fans who are tweeting now from Mexico rarely tweeted in English, so I have no idea how widely the language is spoken. Maybe the younger ones are more adaptable, because of the internet, social media, and filmed entertainment as well as live touring entertainment. I have also noticed that in some places like Paris, they now get 2 versions of a movie - one that is in English ( but much fewer cinemas) and a dubbed version in general.

Exactly! It wasn't a problem at all. Most people (in the audience) speak at least enough English to understand him in his show - regardless of whether movies are usually dubbed there or not!

Press conferences are always translated! That's another matter. I've been in enough concerts - with quite a lot of communication too - in Germany and other Non-English-speaking countries, none of them were ever surtitled - not even over 25 years ago!

I happened to sit next to a Japanese young lady ( maybe late teens) at MSG who came over from Tokyo all by herself and saw all 3 shows at MSG. She could hardly speak English, but she was such a great fan of Hugh. We were both excited even if it was the 3rd MSG show we were seeing. I do remember telling her to be ready when Hugh starts singing Mack The Knife - and move next to the runway (we were 3-4 seats away from the runway on maybe 4th row) so she could possibly get a high-five. She smiled at me...and I wasn't sure if she fully understood what I meant ...or was just too shy. But once Hugh started moving to the runway, I told her "GO!"... and... she took off like a cannon and was on time to get that high-five I guess fandom has no language JO

Resurrected from a thread on BackOnBroadway-Istanbul -- www.zorlucenterpsm.com/en/hugh-jackmanIs this like for non-English operas ( most operas!) where at the top of the proscenium (or maybe a big screen for this large venue) the surtitles run along the streaming medium? This is why I have wondered how Hugh will manage the audience interactions. Presumably, English is not as widely spoken in Istanbul - or is that a wrong premise as Istanbul is supposed to be cosmopolitan? But then again, many international shows have been presented in this venue ( some later ones included Phantom of the Opera, a show with Gerard Depardieu, etc). Maybe the use of surtitles is meant to attract a wider audience, maybe even from neighboring countries. Of course many know Hugh Jackman -- he is Wolverine after all wolverine Are movies dubbed in Turkey? Jo

It really has the most impressive background set - I remember Hugh tweeting the image during rehearsals.
And with his dramatic interpretations ( Soliloquy/OneDayMore) -- it stands out as one of the most, if not the most, artistically imporessive numbers in the show!
