Most people react to ONE DAY MORE as the main thematic song from LES MISERABLES. Hugh's show likewise chose the song as the finale of the Les Misérables musical segment. Is it because it had more spectacle? And involved each key character expressing the impact of the gathering moment on himself?
But Tom Hooper chose DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING as the clarion call of the story and the musical! Maybe because all that had happened... was moving towards the gathering call for people to seek a better life?!
So did the HongKong protesters sing the same song, at the moment! And if I recall right, it was also the song in Tiananmen Square 11 years ago.
A long time ago, when the musical version of Les Misérables was staged in Paris ( even before Mackintosh every thought of it) - A La Volonte du Peuple ( aka Do You Hear the People Sing) was the song that fulfilled the same role!
