Could this also happen to THE MUSIC MAN, especially when it starts performances? Or even earlier, when the second semester is announced for ticket sales? March 2021 - to Sept 2021?
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD has raised its prices at the Shubert Theatre. The last time I checked ( last week), its pricing was at par with THE MUSIC MAN. Its current top premium pricing now --
Still not within Top Price for Hamilton ( & 847).

This wandered into another thread -- Having said all that -- and this veers from the topic of Film roles... I do wonder what "fresh and invigorating" impression will he create in THE MUSIC MAN that will make audiences feel that he is different from... and can take head on... the iconic Robert Preston portrayal ? Will it be a more charming and more romantic interpretation ( which can be helped by his own personal qualities)? Or will it be the opposite - a more startling/mesmerizing ( as if the townspeople are put under a spell by his bad boy persona) portrayal? Just wondering -- it could even be a complete surprise Jo

I am not pushing anyone to get their tickets, but if you haven't -- take a look at this secondary market resale site, selling tickets for Dec 18, 2020 ( a choice date if you plan to be in NYC at that busiest time of the year there) -- www.excite.com/events/theater-tickets/The-Music-Man/The-Music-Man-Winter-Garden-Theatre-New-York/12-18-4177716From my observation when looking at Hugh's music tour show ( #tmtmts), it seems that this group of secondary market sellers have a central pool from which they draw their ticket sales ( maybe there is a central financier) so that one can notice that the same tickets are being peddled in different sites ( including StubHub) and maybe they do it only for choice dates? Just an observation ( no basis for saying so). Is this why Orchestra seats seem to be taken for many choice seats already -- because the secondary market people are already cornering them. *A "Row E" seat is charging over $ 2600 per ticket (Does anyone know how high tickets for Hello,Dolly! and maybe Hamilton peaked, especially during holiday season in NYC?). *They also identify The Winter Garden as the theatre to house The Music Man. It looks like the above BWW thread was referring to the casting calls on October 16, published by BWW.
I didn't realize they audition and maybe cast this early for a show that won't start rehearsals till July 2020 ( almost 9 months away). I guess they would have a pecking order on who gets cast, who are on standby, and who are on the shortlist in case 1 & 2 become unavailable? Also, for child performers, is the production required to hire alternating performers during the week ( such as what was done for Billy Elliot, where there were 3 young male dancers alternating during the week, as regulatory compliance).

Podcast with Shuler Hensley - about his Georgia upbringing and roots, his career, his recent work (Ferryman), and some other stuff he is interested in to play ( top is Sweeney Todd)
At 1'18"30, he mentions that he will be back on Broadway but he said he is not sure if he can announce it ( Not sure why not - as he has already been announced via press release to be part of the show THE MUSIC MAN). He says it is going to be "massive" ( I think that is what he whispered), a grand revival of a classic musical. But what threw me off is his saying that he will be back on Broadway in JUNE 2020. Unless they are starting rehearsals a little earlier ( it is supposed to be from July to Opening Preview)

Beetlejuice fans are wondering about the fate of the show, as they say indications are the Winter Garden may be made available for The Music Man --
Jagged Little Pill has yet to open at the Broadhurst...and are selling tickets till July 2020. The Music Man is supposed to start rehearsals in July. But the theatre will need to be prepared for the incoming show?

It seems that there is a short-run revival of THE MUSIC MAN elsewhere, with sometime Broadway actor/singer Adam Pascal as Prof Harold Hill. www.broadwayworld.com/article/BWW-Photo-Exclusive-Adam-Pascal-Stars-In-THE-MUSIC-MAN-At-5-Star-Theatricals-20191018Not to diss the show, but isn't it looking more like a community theatre production? Couldn't they have freshen it up with better-looking costumes? It looks like some of the men simply bought current clothes which are 2-3 times larger than their real size This was announced only in July and would likely invite comparisons to a forthcoming production on Broadway, one that is likely going to be a grand event revival with a lead who is considered a larger-than-life Broadway persona? I have not seen Adam Pascal on Broadway but he sounds more like a rock star/pop singer in some clips I have seen. Maybe his singing is different in the show itself. But new revivals too close to the coming Broadway staging could only suffer in comparison, unless you have an exciting actor/singer in the lead! Maybe because it is produced by Patrick Cassidy? Isn't he the son ( or is it stepson) of Shirley Jones who made a memorable Marian in the film version? But it was Robert Preston who really made that show! Or maybe it is simply the love for theatre that inspired this short-run revival? Jo EDIT : It seems Adam was Radames in the original cast of AIDA on Broadway -- I did see that original show but I guess he didn't create enough of a strong impression with me to easily jog my memory cells.

Someone on BWW is already asking where one can get a ticket for Opening Night. www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1119606&dt=4Er⦠unless you know someone who knows someone... or at least relatives of a key cast member who could not make it... and even if you can get a ticket from the box office ( could be available in very, very limited supply), that would be on short notice ( maybe a day or 2 from opening...and you have to have your eyes glued to Telecharge or the box office of they rumored theatre) and it would likely not much of a choice seat. What could be a good choice alternative is to see the show maybe the day or 2 days before Opening Night ( likely the show will already be "frozen" and when the critics might attend ...or the day after Opening Night - altho we don't know how tired the cast would be after the previous night partying). What a long wait we are facing Jo

According to one old regular from BWW, if there are any, they won't be available till maybe a week before Opening. Plus they are usually in the Balcony ( no Balcony at the Winter Garden, but maybe the Back Mezz? And --

Yes, Patrick Cassidy is the step-son of Shirley Jones, half-brother of David Cassidy, and brother of Shaun Cassidy.

It looks like another Scott Rudin production, the highly-successful To Kill A Mockingbird, has started using the "dynamic pricing", concept introduced by the Shubert Org in A STEADY RAIN. Certain dates towards end-October to beginning-November have upped its top price to $ 750 for Best Seats.
If The Music Man becomes a very major hit, will we see this kind of "dynamic pricing" as each performance draws near and the show is approaching SOLD OUT status for specific performances ?

The chateratti on ATC are now proposing all manner of things on how to close the show - should it be like the fanstasy ending in the movie or should it be a more realistic band of young boys playing not so great but with a heart?? www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat_new/d.php?id=2470443PS: I like the suggestion that for the prices the show is charging, the NY Pop Orchestra should appear on the Orchestra Floor and the Boston Pops on the Mezzanine - LOL! Jo PPS : I wouldn't mind having a college marching band playing The Greatest Show! Oops - wrong composers!

Clips from the 5-STAR THEATRICALS revival of THE MUSIC MAN ( with Adam Pascal) --
Again, not to diss this effort - but I hope the Rudin production will be a lot more lavish than this, a lot more spectacular in the production numbers, more outstanding singing voice than the lead here... and a lot more charisma from the leads!
Hope the people who are considering going to New York to see the Broadway revival are not going to think that this is all there is to it!

Here's Sutton's post with the same photo -- http://instagram.com/p/B3iRuwKlapj Max Clayton, or as someone playfully refers to as MaxJackman, must be substituting for Hugh in the workshop. Max Clayton is supposedly more identified with dance...and since the post from Sutton refers to Warren Carlyle, this must be some of the dance numbers being planned and tested. I guess we will see Hugh and Sutton prove that their team will be one of the best duos on Broadway!

Have you noticed that each of these 3 posts re the lab work uses the word " create or creativity". That seems to suggest that new work is being contemplated and/or tested?
I don't think they would spend so much time together just rehearsing old dance routines from the show or the movie unless the work includes something new?
