I wonder when Scott Rudin approached Hugh Jackman for the project?

Gulp Another Gulp Just checked how HELLO,DOLLY! was priced by Telecharge during its run. According to this stats from BWW ( they keep a chart from as far as 1996) -- the top price was already $ 996, excluding fees.. Hamilton comparative Top Price was $ 849 excl fees, with average price at $ 291. However, the average ticket price for HELLO, DOLLY! was only $ 117.39...Also, by way of comparison the Bruce Springsteen show charged a top price of $850 excl fees, but with an average price of $ 509, excl fees. www.broadwayworld.com/grossesbyyear.cfm?year=2018

Save up... if that still makes sense ?
Or prepare to climb up those stairs ?
I wonder --
If the basic pricing was slightly more reasonable for Hello, Dolly! and they simply used "dynamic pricing" as the performance date drew near?

With the biggest SNUB of a TONY nomination of a theatrical work in a long time - TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD missing out on a TONY nomination for Best Play Revival --
Does this mean that the Shubert Theatre may be vacated as soon as a year elapses of its run? Does that mean THE MUSIC MAN may get an excellent chance to take over the gem in the lineup of Shubert Theatres - The SHUBERT ?!!

I think when the official news came out via The Hollywood Reporter, some of us ( me!) did not realize how long Hugh has seriously been thinking about this project! Recently, Warren Carlyle mentioned that he was approached by Hugh about the project two years ago - it seems now that it was even longer than that ( Hugh's real interest in the project). Again, that would be around 2016- when The Greatest Showman was close to getting its greenlight ( around February) but rehearsals/filming was pushed to October/November. I guess when Hugh completed his commitment to the role of Wolverine, he had already started thinking about the return to musicals ( including musical theatre)? We had wondered who approached who -- the above article confirms that it was Scott Rudin who approached Hugh! Jo

If this actually happens ( The Music Man at the Winter Garden) -- I wonder if the choice was primarily driven by the size and width of the theatre to accommodate the staging of a spectacle like The Music Man? Not only has it a bigger seating capacity than the Shubert or the Imperial but the auditorium/hall seems very wide and accommodates more seats from left to right of the theatre? Also, that façade evokes theatre-going of the golden age!
Btw, the theatre is not very far from Circle in the Square.

At BroadwayWorld, some chateratti are running away with wild thoughts? So, what did Riedel mean with "next season". When does the current season technically end? Are the TONYs ceremonies the end-date? Wild or inspired thought ?? Ha -- that will mess up everyone's plans ( and wallets, after #TMTMTS) But what if it really happens - haha! Nah -- the Telecharge Page and the official social media site still have the original dates! Jo

Present WG occupant "Beetlejuice" is selling tickets only up to October 2019 … and if it closes after that ( presumably due to lack of TONY recognition) as speculated by many -- that will leave the Winter Garden empty for a year, if The Music Man opens previews there only a year later ( Sept 2020).
Hmmm....

Sutton has confirmed that rehearsals and the show are a year away. Presumably she means the start of previews in September 2020.
They've actually worked together before -- Sutton was in the first workshop for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, singing the role of Charity.

Audition Notices have been posted for July 2019 for secondary and minor roles for the upcoming musical. www.broadwayworld.com/equity-audition/THE-MUSIC-MAN-Broadway-Theatre-TBA-2019-21586What is interesting is that many key roles have already been cast...which brings up the question of whether the opening of the musical will still be in September 9, 2020 ( for previews) and October 22 2020 for Official Opening Night, even if these are the indicated dates? Also, interesting -- they are keeping to the ages of the original production, including to the understudies for Hugh and Sutton. Also, the baby brother role of Tommy is retained. Nothing to do with the audition -- but a theatre has not been named. Also, it seems the group sales date may have been pushed back, per the official site? Ellen--Do they cast most of the key roles more than a year ahead of rehearsals? Rehearsals are supposed to start in July 2020. Are they allowed to accept other jobs during the intervening time? Jo

Jo, I’ve read press releases about performers attached to this or that show well in advance, but only big-name stars. Sometimes, though, a star drops out in the interim only to be replaced by another prominent name.
I would assume secondary players can take other jobs before they are contractually required to report for the “big” show, but I don’t know for certain—or what producer Rudin stipulates in contracts.
I wonder who will play Marcellus, the comic foil to Harold. I hope it’s someone like Christopher Fitzgerald or Brooks Ashmanskas.
By the way, the Tommy character isn’t anyone’s brother; he’s the mischievous boyfriend of the mayor’s daughter. The only brother of note is Winthrop, Marion (the librarian’s) much younger brother.

From an extensive discussion on All That Chat about the personality of Harold Hill ( and how the town will eventually accept his eventual confession re deceiving them), someone provided a link to trivia about The Music Man -- www.spiritofrivercity.com/musicmantrivia.html

The BWW message board is speculating about which show is going to which theatre -- Joke of the Day -- Joke's not about the configuration and size of CITS... but the ticket price *nervous laughter* Unless they have "riverbank" seats, too ( and priced as it was in The River). But since The Music Man happens in a place called River City, why ever not Jo
