Hugh Jackman's performance is recognized among other movies ( with or without theatrical releases) --
The AMPAS should seriously rethink its rules for the current Oscar season. Ironic if they fail to recognize acting excellence!

Tom Hanks has a new movie GREYHOUND, which was a passion project for him. Due to the pandemic, it will not be seen on the big screen but via streaming. His reaction -- Maybe exactly how the filmmakers and actors of BAD EDUCATION felt? At least GREYHOUND will have a chance to qualify for the OSCAR, which has been denied BAD EDUCATION! Especially so because of the high praise Hugh Jackman earned for his performance, Oscar-quality as one critic puts it! Jo

AMPAS - please note!! From a playwright/screenwriter & theatre director -- A pity if the AMPAS does not recognize this excellent effort in filmmaking! Jo

A podcast on currently released movies - one of which is BAD EDUCATION. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/clappercast/id1518295067Fast forward to around 1 hour point (1'00"00) where they discuss BAD EDUCATION.... for about 25 minutes or so. When one realized the movie may be disqualified from Oscar contention -- his reaction: " That is heartbreaking! Hope whoever made that decision to sell it to HBO realizes that he made an error!"... Fulsome praise for the movie itself, Cory Finley's direction, the acting esp by Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney, and many aspects of filmmaking which are discussed in much greater detail. Jo PS: One of the disappointed podcaster said that " excluding this film will destroy the Oscars"! Heartbreaking!!

Indication that BAD EDUCATION was made for cinematic screening. It was also part of intended slate for the USA filmfest TRIBECA which had to move to digital screening due to the health crisis.

Full list of EMMY nominations -- deadline.com/2020/07/emmys-nominations-list-72nd-annual-television-nominees-1202996949/*Are both Ruffalo and Irons portraying two characters each? *Ruffalo's limited series failed to get a nomination for Best Limited Series category. *Bad Education gets a nomination for Best Limited Series/Movie - but failed to get any other creative and technical awards nominations ( such as Directing, Cinematography). Hugh's nomination is the exception. It looks like that series are more favored in almost all categories, with WATCHMEN a particular favorite. Jo

I wonder why Allison was ignored for an EMMY nomination! Her portrayal added immensely to the appeal of the movie!

Not well researched as to actual number of EMMY nominations for Hugh, but this includes an interview with him -- www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/emmys-hugh-jackman-feeling-blessed-humble-bad-education-nomination-1304713?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialWritten by Rebecca Ford -- That is so gracious of Hugh when he wrote that email to now fellow nominee Paul Mascal. Btw, re the supposed nominations -- IIRC -- He was nominated only for the 2004 Hosting of the TONYs! *The 2009 Oscar opening number received a nomination and a win for the writers, but not including Hugh because by that time, the award for hosting a special event had already been eliminated. *He hosted the TONYs 4 times -- 2003, 2004 ( nominated and won), 2005 ( award for hosting of a special event was already eliminated for EMMY honors) and 2014 ( no award for hosting special events). *The TONY ceremonies were nominated for Special Event, but it is for the show. *The 2009 Oscars show was nominated for Special Event but lost to the Beijing Olympics Opening ceremonies ( they spent millions and millions for that... while the Oscars opening number was recession-based - no budget -LOL!) I think Ms Ford may have thought that a nomination for a special event show is also a nomination for the host. Not so! Jo

Excerpts --
This must be the second email from Hugh. Hugh said that after watching a number of episodes of the show that he sent Mescal an email, before the EMMY nods came out.
Hugh is very gracious. I wonder if he has also congratulated Zendaya for her acting nomination?

Ruffalo plays twins who physically look different (one is heavier, etc) Jeremy Irons plays Adrian Veidt who in “reality” is Ozymandias. (so he really is only playing one character) From Wikipedia: Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt, a former businessman and the vigilante Ozymandias, the "smartest man in the world". He is now living as an aristocratic lord of a country manor that turned out to be on Europa. Nancy

Ironically, Frank Tassone was also a two-faced character...
the good superintendent...
and the real person behind the facade!
A true-life character!
Hope the subtleties and the layers of that character are fully appreciated by EMMY voters in Hugh's nuanced portrayal!

Carole Bayer Sager doesn't get as much attention as the late Peter Allen did when we all enjoyed the yearlong run of THE BOY FROM OZ. But her lyrics made the songs more fun or more emotional.
