There's increasing recognition of Hugh Jackman's versatility, especially in musicals!
He was featured in a discussion forum (organized by someone who has BBC credentials) in London on Hollywood musical stars.

BACK ON BROADWAY was not part of the list of musical shows cited above in which Hugh Jackman dazzled audiences and critics alike. Not just with his interpretations of film and stage musicals, but also how he acts as both MC and song artist! With film peers ( Oscars) and with stage peers (Tonys)!
In the comparison with other musical stars, past and present, no one did really come up as a musical star who is also a great entertainer! Not sure if Sammy Davis, Jr., who is most mentioned as a template for Hugh's musical versatility, was mentioned.
Also true that audiences are dazzled by Hugh's charisma but it doesn't mean that he is not an excellent exponent of song and dance on the live stage or the film screen. What sets him apart from many of other musical stars are two key Jackman capabilities : his acting strength which gives more substance to his singing and characterization...and his ability to excel in many genres! Maybe Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland are some of the rare exceptions -- but have Barbra or Judy ever successfully hosted a full show ( which demonstrate their audience rapport on another platform)? That also takes some skill!

More fuel to the fire It's not so much as if Hugh is only a musical star ( and the basis for sole comparison) --
