Do we really need this kind of cynical statements, especially from a theatre critic?
Why doesn't he just do a real piece on how Broadway is trying to survive the odds? Surely, all the men and women involved in trying to organize theatrical shows for next spring should be supported, not made the subject of social media messages aimed at click-baits!

From the Tim Ferris podcast/interview -- Lolol! I have a ticket on exactly the Wednesday matinee six weeks after the show officially opens ( on May 20, 2021)! Not coincidental for me Since I have to travel halfway across the world to see anything on Broadway - I try to time my trip relative to the opening of a favored show(s). I have 2 rules - *Either the week before the TONYs -- as the performers would be at their best...and unlikely to miss any performance. Also, since that would be at least more than a month or so after the deadline for TONY consideration, I thought this is a good indicator of the show quality. I may also have a chance to be at the TONYs (although this is not so easy - only been able to do it only once) -- or least be in NYC for telecast on TONY night. *Or anywhere between 5-8 weeks after the show officially opens -- **The show is set/frozen, no changes expected **The performers are still fresh and excited ( long into the run, some may already be just phoning in, Hugh excepted) - not yet jaded. **Likely, minimal absences that occur due to injuries or illness. I had once booked for a preview for a Mackintosh/Boublil-Schonberg new show in London because it coincided with a European tour... It got postponed for some time... and it took some time to rewrite and re-stage the show. Of course, it is not always easy to get the proper coincidence. PS: Let's all hope that the conditions on which the reassignment of show dates hold! Jo

I am NO longer speculating as to when The Music Man can actually really open -- but here's somewhat related news re Sutton Foster and her TV show -- www.insider.com/hilary-duff-younger-season-7-filming-march-2021-2020-7The Music Man is supposed to start rehearsals in February to March...so it can open for previews in April. Maybe we should wait for another announcement re The Music Man? Jo

From the Legal Complaint -- the Defendants are identified as : I think I can guess the name of the production company for THE MUSIC MAN -- as -- " IOWA STUBBORN LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY," Here's why -- Lol - Rudin does have a whimsical style for naming his many prodcutions Jo

I can't see the show opening until the chance of "troubles" has gone away. Hopefully a vaccine will be available, properly tested and proven to be effective by the second half of 2021, but even that's a bit optimistic in my opinion. I'm happy with my decision to hand back my tickets for the opening night and week as I really think Hugh's optimism is not realistic. Happy to be proven wrong if the show does open on 7 April.

Lol - I was referring more to Harold Hill's prediction in "Ya got trouble", one of his best numbers in the show But in real life - the troubles we are all going through are something we never even imagined! It is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting And Music Man is likely going to be one of the best things to help us get back our equanimity. I think Hugh is simply toeing the line - he can't say that it is not going to hopefully open for previews in April because the production is selling tickets now. Any change will have to be announced by Scott Rudin ( who has so many productions on Broadway on hold - Mockingbird, West Side Story, Lehman Trilogy, etc) Jo

The Hollywood Reporter quotes Hugh -- Hugh also mentioned Patrick Vacariello, the Music Director for the show. Technically, it will be year's run on his own floor space before he steps into rehearsals (pandemic lockdowns started in March 2020 and his optimistic estimate is they may be able to start actual rehearsals in February 2021) Other performers must be undergoing something similar, to keep their skills current. Rehearsals for MusicMan won't start till February 2021 - approx 5 months from now -- but the above makes the thought of people working in close proximity with each somewhat scary. Will Broadway plans to reopen go through another better-tuning process? The article poses the question of where Pattinson might have gotten the virus - while filming or while on his personal time? Jo

Given the continuing uncertainty of the health crisis and the fact that live theatre will be in Part 4 (last phase) of the New York State's Reopening Plan, there is some surprise that The Music Man has now publicly unfolded its marquee at the Winter Garden. It's interesting to re-read the announcement made by Scott Rudin et al when the show was officially postponed to open previews on April 7, 2021 and officially open on May 20, 2021, via The Hollywood Reporter -- www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hugh-jackman-broadways-music-man-back-track-spring-2021-1300086So, there is a rhyme and reason to Rudin's thinking and solid plans! The production is blessed with producers (Rudin, Geffen and Diller) who have very deep pockets. Geffen and Diller are well-known billionaires who made their money in the entertainment business and know the kind of highs and lows in this industry! Given how well New York has managed its health crisis - from the worst in the nation, to one that has essentially flattened its curve and continuing to do so -- and how Rudin must be in constant touch with Cuomo and his group, it seems more reassuring now, after the seeming level of comfort given in his strategy, But what if The Music Man becomes a solid hit week after week - and is practically sold out for each of its early performances ( which the producers do not expect at all)?? What a quandary! But re-reading this makes one feels a little more reassured Jo

But so much bitterness from BEETLEJUICE fans reacting to the tweet, mixes with those rejoicing that we are finally seeing a glimmer of hope!

But I bet he was won over by The Music Man ( aka Hugh Jackman) - given what he tweeted And wouldn't be surprised if he eventually gets a ticket to see the show - no matter that it won't happen till 2021! Jo
