Ellen’s Stardust Diner, a popular dining spot in the Theater District known for its singing staff, will officially reopen this week as restaurants begin to offer indoor dining amid the pandemic.


Located at 1650 Broadway, will reopen to the public on Oct. 1. The popular 1950s-themed eatery is best known for its delectable burgers and milkshakes served up by a musical wait staff of aspiring actors and Broadway performers, “The Stardusters.”

“We are excited to open our doors again and welcome back New Yorkers and tourists to Times Square,” said Scott Barbarino, artistic director at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. “Stardust has been a New York City institution for more than 30 years and our hope is that everyone will still be able to enjoy a bit of Broadway with our singing wait staff in this interim before nearby theater will be able to reopen as well.”

I wonder if the new marquee at Winter Garden Theatre had an influence on their plan to reopen?

Both ATC and BWW saying that Broadway League is set to make an official announcement to extend the closure of Broadway. Speculations are it will be closed till May 30.

Breaking: Broadway Shutdown Extends Through May 2021NBC New York reports that The Broadway League will announce tomorrow another extension of the Broadway shutdown in New York City. It is expected that The League will announce a suspension of performances through May 30, 2021, marking another delay before shows will return.

The League has released updated information regarding performance cancellations and ticketing. Broadway theatres are now offering refunds and exchanges for tickets purchased for all performances through May 30, 2021.

Returning productions are currently projected to resume performances over a series of rolling dates beginning June 2021.

Broadway performances were suspended on March 12, 2020. At that time, 31 productions were running, including 8 new shows in previews. Additionally, 8 productions were in rehearsals preparing to open in the spring.

We will not take it as official YET until there is a formal announcement by the Broadway League.

BROADWAY UPDATE ON PERFORMANCE CANCELLATIONS

New York, NY – October 9, 2020 – The Broadway League announces the continued suspension of all ticket sales for Broadway performances in NYC through May 30, 2021. Dates for each returning and new Broadway show will be announced as individual productions determine the performance schedules for their respective shows. The League will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available.

“With nearly 97,000 workers who rely on Broadway for their livelihood and an annual economic impact of $14.8 billion to the city, our membership is committed to re-opening as soon as conditions permit us to do so. We are working tirelessly with multiple partners on sustaining the industry once we raise our curtains again,” said Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League.

Theatregoers holding tickets for dates through May 30, 2021 should contact their point of purchase for details about exchanges and refunds.

We have important news about your tickets for THE MUSIC MAN. To ensure the safety of both our audiences and our companies, all Broadway performances of all shows have been suspended through May 30th, 2021. Based on this extended suspension of Broadway performances, THE MUSIC MAN, starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, has been rescheduled. We will now begin performances at the Winter Garden Theatre on Monday, December 20th, 2021, and open on Thursday, February 10th, 2022.

INFO ABOUT SUSPENDED PERFORMANCES

Telecharge has emailed all ticketholders about tickets for affected performances. Telecharge customers with tickets for a performance between January 4 and May 30, 2021 are being refunded automatically.

There is no information about performances after May 30, 2021, though some shows do have tickets on sale for later in the year.

THE MUSIC MAN
We are awaiting word on dates for The Music Man and are not responding to emails about this show at this time. If you have tickets for The Music Man, we will email you as soon as more info is available.

If you bought tickets for any affected performance at a box office with a credit card, your tickets have been refunded. This excludes The Music Man.

If you bought at a box office with cash, please visit the box office for a refund when it reopens. You may also mail in your tickets for a refund to Telecharge, P.O. No mention if the extended waiting time of a year ( assuming rehearsals start in October 2021) will give Hugh the opportunity for any film project ( maybe filmed more towards the summer of 2021)?

Yes, Broadway needs the likes of Hugh Jackman and The Music Man to lead the recovery of the Great White Way!

But they have chosen to come back only in December 2020. At least one new show ( Michael Jackson musical) is announcing a return to Broadway in September 2020. I'd hate to think that it will be the show that will be the harbinger of Broadway's return


I wonder how the other shows which had to be suspended are planning their returns.

Sorry, maybe because 2021 is so far away -- my mind refuses to believe the show is going to open for previews 21 months ( sounds like a lifetime ) since it was first announced

Hugh can articulate a sentiment that touches people!

The world needs many messages of hope at this point -- it has become weary and uncertain of what to look forward to. Maybe this show and a showman who can deliver the message of hope ( no matter that Prof Harold Hill has been viewed as a con man who gets reformed)... and deliver with his performance... will lighten the heavy hearts that many people bear at this time.

Can't believe we are still so many months/years away from our dates with Hugh


I am glad I decided to change my tickets I received from the first round of postponement. Had I followed it, I would have gotten tickets in mid- to late- March for this round. That would still be wintry for me!  Arghh... I decided then to exchange my June dates to October ( mainly because I thought it might be the more conservative estimate for worldwide vaccinations against the virus...and also it would be a great way to watch the Northeast foliage season again). As it happened my October 2021 dates have now become June 2022 dates. Last days of spring for me!
