Also, since WB's focus this year is DUNE --
*opening in October, start of awards season *it will be featured at the Venice Film Festival *always the focus of attention ( film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, whose first Hollywood film was Prisoners)
hope, they give REMINISCENCE equal or similar attention to push it for awards consideration ( assuming the film itself turns out to be a critical hit).

So many have been struck by the power of the music ( which Lisa Joy personally selected the composer of).
If this will be part of the film scoring --
who knows, it might even be good enough for Oscar consideration!

Lisa Joy did say in that long-ago interview with her scriptwriting mentor (Scott Myers) that the script was partly influenced by "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
The film noir influence is very strong in the trailer. Hugh did look like a mid-50's detective of the past century...and he did say he was portraying someone more like Humphrey Bogart. “Think Wolverine meets Humphrey Bogart,” said Joy in an interview with Deadline.com. Rebecca also looked like a screen siren of the past ( her clothes and her hairstyle).
It seems though that many have the impression that this is really an original story even if there are past influences suggested in it.

Also, some interesting notes from the early Deadline interview that helps to appreciate the trailer...and give us an indication of how the movie will be -- As Hugh winds up his music tour... he is likely moving on immediately to his new film project! Let me refresh some notes from the first report from Deadline when they interviewed Lisa Joy Nolan -- Re-reading this -- has further increased the expectations from the intended movie! Hope everyone delivers as hoped for! From Lisa Joy and her co-producers, her co-creative team, her cast! Jo

He or was it Liza who said that Nick Bannister looked like a film noir detective, ala Humphrey Bogart --

Hope the artist corrects the info on where the film will be released.
It's in cinemas & HBO-MAX!
The last time we saw Hugh on HBO, the movie only qualified as an EMMY TV MOVIE honoree. We wish for OSCAR honors chances for REMINISCENCE!

Not directly related to REMINISCENCE...but --
There are some apprehensions that summer movie-going may not be keen enough this year, as the USA is just emerging into a relative post-pandemic world. But it seems that tentpoles like the franchise for F-9 are what are needed to energize movie-going. The news is not as vigorous for the overseas markets as the pandemic has not yet loosen its grip in many countries.
Reminiscence, not being a franchise, may not generate as much ticket sales but at least the attitude of the movie-going public is beginning to look positive and optimistic. One Box Office disadvantage for Reminiscence is that it will be released simultaneously in cinemas and streaming. Will WarnerBros change its strategy - there are no indications as of now. However it has rejuggled the time slots for some of its major releases like DUNE (they don't want it to compete with the latest James Bond movie).
Reminiscence, based on the trailer, has given the indication that it will also be an action thriller, apart from its dramatic theme of love vs obssession, as well as being partly a sci-fi movie. Many of fan comments on the trailer cite the comparisons with Wolverine/action films & Nolan movies which are sci-fi ( like Inception) so those sound favorable to this movie's reception at the newly emerging theatrical box office.
Let's hope late summer is still a good time to watch a movie especially in the USA.

A common remark about the trailer is the unexpected seeming exceptional film scoring. Many articles came out from the zoom meeting with media citing that aspect. Some articles had been more extensive in their coverage of the discussions. www.slashfilm.com/reminiscence-details/Btw, the reference as to when she was supposed to have written the script as 2018 is not correct. Unless that was when she rewrote the script ready for filming and full casting - because there have been character changes from the original script which made it to the 2013 Black List. Jo

So far this is the film distribution list -- www.imdb.com/title/tt3272066/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_rdatChina is the key distribution release -- Lisa Joy is Eurasian ( half-Chinese/half-Caucasian) and one of the key leads, Daniel Wu, is an Asian-American actor whose movies are popular in China. There was an announcement that it will be released here in the Philippines but our lockdown rules do not yet allow opening of cinemas. Jo

I thought it had been announced a while ago as 19 August.

The list is not comprehensive -- it is what was reported to IMDB.
We (Philippines) have also been announced here ( except cinemas are not yet open today)...so other countries are likely missed, too, in the list.
In the same listing is a secondary one showing countries where the film is known by different names. Maybe it is an indication of where else the movie will evemtually be shown?

Drive-in viewing -- a great idea if you are wary of going inside a cinema for REMINISCENCE.

New Oscars rules out -- Can REMINISCENCE qualify due to its same-day theatrical and streaming release? This is important given how disappointed people were that BAD EDUCATION, despite its critical raves, did not qualify for Oscar consideration. deadline.com/2021/06/oscars-changes-rules-ten-best-picture-nominees-1234784121/#commentsIt looks like that for the Oscars - REMINISCENCE will be eligible for Oscar consideration. On the other hand, directors of films released by Warner Bros from June 16 (which will include Lisa Joy and Denis Villeneuve for DUNE) will not qualify for the prestigious DGA award. Will Warner Bros change its policy of same date release in theaters and streaming? Jo

REMINISCENCE clocks at 2 hrs & 28 minutes!
Per Box Office Mojo --
I wonder if this is the final screening time?
Usual film length tries to keep it within 2 hours.
Hope the thriller aspect keeps the interest going for a fairly long movie.
