Interesting about the choice of clip and Hugh's reference on Bannister's obsessive search for the woman he loved in REMINISCENCE!

Hugh's character seemed pummeled in the action scenes -- all he had to go through to find Mae!

In the Black List winning script ( w/c may have been modified), Nick is even supposed to have lost one of his teeth
He was going to suffer physically as he went into the harsh Miami "underworld" ( LOL - where the modern word meaning of "underworld" makes me think of the Greek mythology's Hades underworld -- again the inspiration from the story of Orpheus and Eurydice -- Orpheus's quest for his lost love). I am beginning to think that screenwriter/director Lisa Joy really took that mythical storyline to heart!

How many would have appreciated that? The clip shown was about the action thriller aspect -- maybe even suggested by WarnerBros to attract audiences ( less emphasis on the sci-fi...and Hugh adding the emphasis on the obsessive love in the interview)!

Btw, Black Widow with ScarJo in another action tentpole has been setting summer box office records -- and WarnerBros had the wisdom to have the Reminiscence trailer placed in those screenings!

But his appearance in Colbert's show seems more slanted towards The Music Man! The show deserves it! And in effect this is the first public performance of Hugh shown tap-dancing and doing the RockIsland overture -- actually pre-empting any other show in being hailed publicly ( thru TV) as the return of Broadway

The strategy to focus on the action thriller theme in the promotional appearance is probably the best way to attract movie audiences because action movies ( especially tentpoles like Black Widow) are the best proven film genres with audiences! Hugh did emphasize that the main theme is his search for his lost love ( and he suffers a lot in this quest) - romance still attracts film audiences but maybe more as an exception these days. The sci-fi element was de-emphasized in the promotional clip at the talk show as some are not all fans of pure sci-fi!

When you think about it --

actors's appearances in talk shows primarily emphasize the artistic material that they are involved in.

In this case, Hugh's major projects - REMINISCENCE & THE MUSIC MAN are equally emphasized! It became more of a display of Hugh Jackman's range and the public's recognition of his overall versatility in 2 completely different artistic genres!

Presumably we'll see some new fantastic choreography with Warren Carlyle in charge of the dance numbers. Hugh and Sutton tap dancing - why not? Hugh posted the entire rehearsal tap dance number ( see link) - and someone suggested that it seems like he was tap dancing to the beat of the Rock Island Overture. He even hooted the train whistle at the end. Could be a change intended for the revival?

Hugh was trained in dramatic theatre ( including classical theatre) at WAAPA in Australia and performed the role of Romeo in one production. He used to say that he was keen on Henry V...but I guess with him aging up, he is now turning to LEAR. He has also always acknowledged Trevor Nunn as his mentor and has said that he would someday want to do some classical theatre with him.

He was primarily at the Colbert show promoting his new movie REMINISCENCE. The film is a romantic sci-fi thriller written and directed by WESTWORLD'S Lisa Joy Nolan ( wife of Jonathan Nolan who co-writes scripts with brother Chris Nolan). In one media interview, Lisa said that the storyline is partly inspired by the Greek mythology story of Orpheus and Eurydice as he tried to search for his wife in Hades's underworld. I had wondered if there is some similarity to the story inspiration for the current show HADESTOWN? In the film, the lead character is obsessed with finding a woman he fell in love with when she availed of his tech-based memory-recall service. That brings him to the underworld of a near-future Miami affected by climate change to look for her. It looks noir!

Quite a departure from The Music Man.

Of course with new cases surging due to the Delta variant, there is some level of frustration that the screening of new movies could be affected. Hopefully, this can be addressed by strong campaigns for vaccination and continuing observance of health protocols.

Reminiscence Release Date and Where You Can Watch It
Reminiscence will release nationwide in theaters on August 20, 2021. And, since it’s a Warner Bros. movie, that also means we’ll be getting the film on HBO Max that same date. It’ll be available on HBO Max in UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos on supported devices for 31 days from the theatrical release date.

What is Reminiscence?

Reminiscence is a sci-fi film from writer-director Lisa Joy. Joy is one of the co-creators of Westworld, and here she makes her feature directorial debut. As I mentioned above, Reminiscence has the unique distinction of being an original film not based on anything else. No book, no comic book, no TV series, no previous film. Nothing. This is 100% original, folks! And that’s depressingly rare these days, especially from a major studio.

Reminiscence Synopsis
Here’s the Reminiscence synopsis:

Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Rebecca Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love?


Reminiscence Director, Crew, and More
Lisa Joy is the writer and director of Reminiscence. The film is produced by Joy, Jonathan Nolan, Michael De Luca, and Aaron Ryder. The executive producers are Athena Wickham, Elishia Holmes, and Scott Lumpkin. Joy has brought several of her Westworld creative team members on board the film, including director of photography Paul Cameron, production designer Howard Cummings, editor Mark Yoshikawa, and composer Ramin Djawadi, along with costume designer Jennifer Starzyk.


Reminiscence Cast
Reminiscence stars Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson. It’s worth noting that Jackman and Ferguson previously appeared together in The Greatest Showman. Reminiscence, however, will likely have far fewer scenes with top hats and elephants. Maybe. The cast here also includes Thandiwe Newton, Cliff Curtis, Marina de Tavira, Daniel Wu, Mojean Aria, Brett Cullen, Natalie Martinez, Angela Sarafyan, and Nico Parker.

Hopefully, there will be a promo for REMINISCENCE within the TODAY show at a later date...except this does not seem to be it as he is wearing casual clothes ?

I think this is great news!

REMINISCENCE further edited to a more conventional 2-hour movie!

I was a little worried that the initial cut of 2 hrs&28 minutes was too long for a typical movie, especially so when it is part action thriller.
