How can Mendelson think so lowly of Hugh Jackman and Lisa Joy's choice of project -- to compare it with TRANSCENDENCE (Johnny Depp) with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 19% and an audience score of 37%Synopsis :Transcendence/Film synopsis "Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp), the world's foremost authority on artificial intelligence, is conducting highly controversial experiments to create a sentient machine. When extremists try to kill the doctor, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed. Will's wife, Evelyn (Rebecca Hall), and best friend, Max (Paul Bettany), can only watch as his thirst for knowledge evolves to an omnipresent quest for power, and his loved ones soon realize that it may be impossible to stop him." Mendelson has not read up on REMINISCENCE and has absolutely no idea what it is all about. It is not even that much of sci-fi and has action/thriller and romance as main story drivers! I think he may not also be knowledgeable about Lisa Joy's WESTWORLD reputation and her connection to the Nolan clan of filmmakers. He seems to think Lisa is just a token gesture to inclusivity ( for female directors) Re the competition -- Candyman original movie ( 1992) was 75 % rating but only 62 % audience score. It was rated R Box office - domestic : $ 26 M /International: no figures at Box Office Mojo While it is true that horror is now a doing well as a film genre, who knows if the sequel can deliver as well as the original movie? Let's hope Mendelson eats his words again ... just as he had to swallow them when he first derided THE GREATEST SHOWMAN as simply kid stuff ( "rin-tin-tin" stuff, he called the movie, IIRC) Jo

Too bad the change of USA release to August 27 puts it much further away from --
*Venice Film Festival - September 1, 2021 Toronto Film Festival - September 9, 2021
although its original overseas release date ( August 27) may have already brought on a similar issue.
Let's hope the movie is very well-received and word of mouth as well will carry it towards awards season discussions!

I will (hopefully) be in Liverpool, England on Aug. 27th. Will have to wait until I get home, but my first choice to see will be The Beatles: Get Back!

I read today that the new US release date is moved up to Aug. 20. Hope that’s accurate. The sooner the better!

AUGUST 20, 2021 new release date is confirmed on Box Office Mojo -- www.boxofficemojo.com/calendar/2021-08-01/Only three films ( incl REMINISCENCE) on WIDE release. The remaining three on LIMITED release. However, on May 3, 2021 -- According to Deadline, the distribution rights for the upcoming film “Finch,” formerly known as “Bios,” has been purchased by Apple TV+. The film stars Tom Hanks and was originally set to be released by Universal in theaters over the summer. However, it appears, now, that Apple TV+ is setting up “Finch” for a fall release in limited theaters (for awards consideration) before debuting on the streaming platform. (So, can we now see FINCH deleted from the releases for August 20, 2021? Is this one of the reasons why REMINISCENCE has moved up a week in its release date?)FINCH, with Tom Hanks, deals with the story of " On a post-apocalyptic earth, a robot, built to protect the life of his creator's beloved dog, learns about life, love, friendship and what it means to be human. PROTEGE Follows Anna (Maggie Q) and Rembrandt (Keaton) - two of the world's premiere assassins who share a mysterious past from Vietnam. For years, they traversed the globe competing for high profile contracts. But when Anna's mentor Moody (Jackson) is murdered, she and Rembrandt must form an uneasy alliance and return to Vietnam to track down his killer. Of the 3 (or is it now just 2?) on WIDE RELEASE, only REMINISCENCE is scheduled on release in many European cities apart from the USA release. Jo

WHERE IS THE FULL TRAILER for REMINISCENCE ??!!! The movie is being released on August 20, some 3 months from now --and a first full trailer is nowhere in sight! The movie Dear Evan Hansen already released its full trailer even if it will only open in September. I realize that WarnerMedia is now undergoing a major upheaval due to the merger with Discovery...but the film studio should not waste any opportunity to generate film releases and streaming revenues when the picture for actual cinematic releases seems to have improved a lot in America! WarnerBros may make good films but they do not support their film releases all that well, historically -speaking. Look at how they abandoned PAN and THE FOUNTAIN in the past. They did not also enhance the chances of PRISONERS for awards consideration ( now, most social messages question why the film was completely ignored for Oscars). Jo

Preliminary announcements for The 94th Oscars -- www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/oscars-2022-date-1234960021/Given that movies that have been released via streaming (so long as a theatrical distribution has been announced) will qualify for Oscar consideration -- removes any doubts that REMINISCENCE can qualify despite its planned simultaneous theatrical and streaming release. Given the dates, should REMINISCENCE score highly with critics and AMPAS voters Hugh Jackman will not be in a position to help with any award consideration appearances ( like special screenings with Q&A) as he will be busy with The Music Man. We'll see how it goes. Jo

Reposting this - the only time we heard more lengthily about the movie from Hugh -- REMINISCENCE is about 4 months from release -- but we have not seen a trailer. Hopefully, there will be one soon! From a past COLLIDER interview with Hugh (when he was doing promo for BAD EDUCATION) -- To have relegated this to a streaming service for its release ( albeit with a questionable theatrical schedule due to the pandemic, which may still be a serious issue in April?) seems unfair. It seems to be a project that Lisa Joy has planned and executed so carefully, with a well-conceived cinematic vision, but would not benefit from a major theatrical release. It would have been better off if WB had rescheduled the movie release to the second half of 2021 when theaters would have opened more widely. But it seems the real reason why WB was prodded to do a simultaneous streaming release was to beef up the subscribers list of the flailing HBO-MAX Jo
