Update: I took advantage of FUNNY GIRL's new rush policy and finally caught Beanie Feldstein's performance. She was neither great nor horrible, meandering somewhere in between but registering less of an impact than I'd hoped she would. Her comedic timing was fine, though slightly less sharp than I thought it would be. Her voice is serviceable but should be more than just OK for such a major role iconic role as Fanny Brice. She sometimes left the impression that she was singing words rather than projecting the feeling behind the lyrics. Beanie still exudes great personal appeal on stage, however. Unfortunately, that's not enough to get her through the first Broadway revival of FG in nearly 6 decades. I hope she gets another chance to start in (preferably) a comedy on Broadway.

Ellen Thanks Ellen for the review on Beanie’s Fanny performance. I have been following along with the controversies and value your opinion.

I caught a recent performance of POTUS, a wild, frenetic political comedy at the Shubert theater. It’s 90 minutes of sheer fun, full of outrageous farce, slapstick and, if you’re in the mood for a play with those elements—which I was—loads of laughs. In fact I haven’t laughed so much during a show since THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG and ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. The seven-woman cast, notably starring Julie White, Vanessa Williams and Rachel Dratch, are adept farceurs as various White House staff—and objects—whirl around the Oval Office amid the women’s desperate attempts to shore up a bumbling president. Recommended.

Ellen, I saw One Man, Two Guvnors on TV (PBS) starring James Corden. Was he in the production you saw? (Loved it when he mentioned The Beatles!)

The Hollywood Reporter reports on the status of the Broadway comeback.
Nothing much new in this article has contributed to the knowledge that Broadway is still struggling. Not much comment on whether the type of new material (being presented) is also an issue. Also, no kind of marketing research on what kind of shows are being patronized (consumer choices) - new or revivals? Any indications of repeat patronage? Also, why interview only one producer?
