I feel confident it'll screen during the week that has long been set aside to have no performances by Hugh. I would be very irritated as a ticket-holder if he was suddenly going to be away earlier. I also find it hard to believe he wouldn't be there for the premiere.
For what it's worth, my guess is they're going to Venice and then Toronto and skipping Telluride.

Great to keep us guessing, though Telluride is the most respected of the festivals, if you're talking of prestige attendees. It is considered the best attended, in terms of film buffs present. That is what movie media says. Of course not too many film audiences have even heard of it because of its low-key presence. They could or could skip it... but if it manages to get there and get some strong and favorable reactions, that would mean a lot. Venice ( which is held at the Lido, one of the islands in the lagoon) is for glamor and media attention. Although it plays second only to Cannes when it comes to glamor. It prides itself in being the place when the awards season buzz starts. The Berlinale is too early to make awards predictions but it is one of the 3 best known filmfests. Logan premiered there. Toronto has a much younger but larger attendance ( no prizes, but people's awards... Prisoners won 2nd prize of the People's Awards when it screened in 2013). They can still meet both Venice and Telluride, so long as Venice is not scheduled for the last day of Telluride ( if Hugh can manage to fly that fast)... we'll see, how it goes. And whatever it turns out to be - let's just hope the reaction to the movie and Hugh's portrayal exceeds all expectations Jo

Of course the other consideration is where Sony thinks it can get the most exposure to help the film distribution primarily in North America (USA primarily). There was an announcement that France will get its release in early March ( presumably awaiting post-Oscar results) and it is assumed that many overseas releases will follow suit. Toronto can also help in the North American release strategy. If it goes to Telluride and gets good results, that can also push the plans for the North American release. Sony did not have a good result when it released The Front Runner. But since then, Sony has been producing a number of gold box office hits so Tom Rothman's coffers are full Will he adopt an aggressive strategy or will this movie still be considered a pure indie indulgence Jo

I have tickets for August 30th!
