A new one! www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hugh-jackman-museum-moving-image-362829Quote: Museum of Moving Image to Salute Hugh Jackman (Exclusive)
4:05 PM PDT 8/15/2012 by Gregg Kilday
The star of stage and screen, who will next be seen in the film adaptation of "Les Miserables," will be honored on Dec. 11.
Hugh Jackman will be honored by New York’s Museum of the Moving Image at its annual fundraiser, the Salute, which takes place Dec. 11 at Cipriani Wall Street.
Best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men film series, Jackman next appears on screen in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of the musical Les Miserables, which Universal is releasing Dec. 14. The performer also is a frequent visitor to Broadway, where he has appeared in Oklahoma!, The Boy from Oz (for which he won a Tony) and his recent one-man show Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway. Additionally, he has hosted the Tony Awards for three consecutive years from 2003-2005 (earning an Emmy for his second appearance) and co-hosted the 81st Academy Awards in 2009. “We are thrilled to be honoring one of the world’s most beloved and talented performers,” MMI executive director Carl Goodman said in announcing the honor. Jackman joins the ranks of past honorees who have received the Museum’s Salute, including Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, Goldie Hawn, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Mike Nichols, Al Pacino, Sidney Poitier, Julia Roberts, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Funds raised from the Salute support the programs, exhibitions, and educational activities of the Museum of the Moving Image. The education programs, which include curriculum-based tours, screenings, and workshops, serve nearly 60,000 students per year. The MMI Salute to Hugh Jackman will be produced by Scott Mauro Entertainment, Inc., with Scott Mauro serving as executive producer.

Here's the link to the website of the Museum of Moving Image, if you are interested to visit -- www.movingimage.us/visit/This is located in Astoria ( isn't that in Queens?) - is it just a subway ride away? Jo

Yes, at downtown CIPRIANI - a place I somehow associate with the Jackmans I wonder - will they have other Hollywood A-listers at the event? Jo

Do you know for what date the NYC premiere is scheduled? Was this officially announced?
The London premiere is scheduled for December 3, but subject to change in date and awaiting confirmation of the cinema where it is going to be held ( most likely that will be on Leicester Square where most premieres are held). It is the conjecture that this will be the world premiere, given that the English stage musical version originated here. Who knows - Cameron Mackintosh may invite everyone who has ever sang onstage in a Les Mis production ;D
The movie is in post-production and some of us on the IMDB Les Miserables board are a bit nervous about the relatively short time available for post production. We are all crossing our fingers that they complete it on time, given what has happened to The Great Gatsby (originally scheduled for a December 25 release but moved to summer 2013). I guess the release date of December 14 in the USA/Canada is a much awaited date.
Thanks for any info.

It just struck me that this is the first time the Museum of Moving Image is honoring a performer who is a complete entertainer, as he is cited for: *film acting *stage performing *event hosting/entertaining And he is very strong in terms of each aspect! Plus, he is also an exemplary fundraiser Jo

Variety echoes the sentiment that Jackman is probably the first honoree for exemplary work that combines film /stage /event hosting and entertainment --
>>>Gordon Cox Variety 6:55 p.m. CDT, August 16, 2012 Gotham's Museum of the Moving Image will honor Hugh Jackman for its 27th annual salute, part of a fundraising gala set for December.
Jackman draws the honor for a body of work that couples bigscreen credits ("Wolverine," the upcoming "Les Miserables") with stage work ("The Boy From Oz," "Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway") and kudocast hosting stints for the Tonys and Oscars.
Jackman joins a roster of MMI honorees that includes Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts and Steven Spielberg.
Coin raised by the gala will go to support the various programs, exhibitions and education initiatives of the Queens-based museum dedicated to film, TV and digital media.
The MMI salute to Jackman, exec produced by Scott Mauro of his eponymous production company, is set for Dec. 11 at Cipriani Wall Street in downtown Manhattan.

Belated reporting by Deadline.com - but an acknowledgement nevertheless of this special honor ( Variety also wrote a short feature - see above post) -- www.deadline.com/2012/08/moving-image-museum-to-laud-hugh-jackman/#utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterI liked the first comment. Which drew me to add mine Deadline is arguably the most widely read Hollywood column, so it is nice to see Hugh being featured in these terms. Hope it adds to his Oscar appeal ( which of course has nothing to do with the MMI honors - LOL)!It is only to beginning to sink in ( to me, anyway) that he is being honored by a cultural institute for his being a compleat performer! Has anyone been given such a recognition? One would think this would come much later in his career, but it is good that the honors are being given now. I think his humanitarian work has also been a factor. Jo

It looks like he will have quite a number of celebrity friends over -- www.showbiz411.com/2012/11/16/hugh-jackman-bringing-les-miz-cast-to-museum-dinner-sting-nile-rodgers-reset-for-jan-31st>>>Hugh Jackman Bringing “Les Miz” Cast to Museum Dinner;
11/16/12 11:49am Roger Friedman
If there’s a lot of anticipation about “Les Miserables,” then the spotlight will really be on this year’s dinner for the Museum of the Moving Image. On December 11th the Museum is honoring Hugh Jackman with an all star dinner at Cipriani Wall Street. Hugh, who never misses a chance to put on a tuxedo, is attracting quite the crowd. I’m told the entire “Les Miz” gang will be there, with Anne Hathaway already confirmed. Other stars also signed up are Liev Schreiber, Alec Baldwin, and Rachel Weisz. (Can Daniel Craig be far behind?) Every year the MMI has a swell event….<<<*With Liev, maybe Naomi? *If they are in NYC, maybe Nicole and Keith? *The Broadway crowd? *The other New York crowd ( check out those who came to see him on Back on Broadway)? Just guessing, of course Jo

With tickets starting at $1,500, I'm hopeful this will somehow be either televised (ha! fat chance) or lat least appear in excepts on YouTube.

Partial guest list --
Les Miserables Star Hugh Jackman to be Honored by Museum of the Moving Image
News By Marc Snetiker November 27, 2012 - 3:34PM
Hugh Jackman will receive the 27th annual Salute from the Museum of the Moving Image. Tony and Emmy winner Hugh Jackman will add another honor to his extensive resume when he is saluted by the Museum of the Moving Image at its 27th annual ceremony in New York on December 11.
Jackman will personally accept the honor at Cipriani Wall Street, where a number of celebrity guests will join in the celebration, including Alec Baldwin and Mike Nichols (both former honorees), Jackman’s Les Miserables co-star Anne Hathaway, Rachel Weisz, Liev Schreiber, Ron Meyer, Jim Gianopulos, as well as other members of the Les Miz cast...[/quote]
*Mike Nichols - too bad they have not had a chance to work with each other. They did a reading of the McAlary play by Nora Ephron, but it seems it will be helmed by another and will star Tom Hanks instead on Broadway. I bet Mike was "dragged" to the show by his wife, Hugh-fan Diane Sawyer ;D
*Ron Meyer is the President and COO of Universal Studios
*Jim Gianopulos is now the sole Chairman ( after Tom Rothman left) of Fox Filmed Entertainment.
*And of course the Les Miserables contingent ( the premiere is the night before).

Remember the Walk of Fame Project initiated by Jackman's Landing then? The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce did make the announcement that Hugh will be given the honors and awarded his own STAR but the ceremonies were held off, presumably because his Grauman Theatre footprint/handprint awarding ceremony took precedence? The funds were turned over to a temporary associate of JL, who had the right contacts in Hollywood to await the appropriate time. If I recall right, there was a 5-year limitation between the Hollywood C of C announcement and the actual awarding ceremonies. However since it was Fox who was supposed to have picked up the additional funding requirements, it was assumed that they would do it for its next Hugh/Fox movie...which would be The Wolverine. But that one does not premiere until July 2013, which may be a date that would exceed the expiry date. There was an update on the site which informs on what is happening to the project. hughjackman-wofupdates.com/contributors.htmlIt seems that the funds had already been turned over to the appropriate party(s) and that we might hear something in the near future? I wonder if arrangements have been made so that the ceremonies can precede the premiere of Les Miserables in Hollywood on December 13?? I hope Fox is generous enough to allow it even if the collateral publicity may accrue to Universal's Les Miserables. Just guessing...and hoping, of course! Jo

I am a little wary of what Weinstein will do re the Golden Globes.
Look at how his movies did for the GG --
Acting nods - Cooper, Lawrence, Phoenix, Hoffman, Waltz, DiCaprio!
I have recently read that in the past the GG and Weinstein have been accused of being too close to each other ( actually there were past accusations of " bribing" awards, by giving incentives such as lush all-expenses paid trips). I hope he lays off the Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy category and let the best man win!

Not exactly an honor, but didn't know where else to put this. (I thought we had a HJ in Popular Culture thread, but I guess not.). Anyway, tonight on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, Larry David is at a restaurant with distinguished author Salman Rushdie, about whom Larry would like to create a musical. Rushdie's casting choice: Hugh Jackman. "He's a triple threat," he intones. Larry says Rushdie's crazy for that suggestion. Funny scene.

I saw a tweet to that effect but there was no attribution how as to how that came about. Thanks, Ellen. Salman Rushdie is a famed writer... I wonder if he also knew that Hugh graduated with a journalism major. On top of being a triple threat Hugh has many attributes that attract famous people to him as someone who can portray them in a biopic. *Maybe Salman saw him in Oklahoma! SR resides in the UK, if that is still current? So Hugh's triple threat talent is certainly an attraction. *Before he passed on and a few years back, Hugh Hefner said he wanted Hugh Jackman to portray him in a biopic, maybe because of Hugh's sex appeal and looks? Not sure if Jared Leto, as cast by Brett Ratner for his Hefner film project, shares the same appeal. *Some look at Hugh's Wolverine physique and he is the envy of many men, representing someone with a strong masculine image. *Novak Djokovic, the tennis champ, was once asked whom he would like to portray him in a biopic -- he said " Hugh Jackman" without batting an eyelash! Hugh does play a mean game of tennis ( according to Liev Schreiber). *Or some compare him to Cary Grant for the same ineffable charm and to Gregory Peck for that strong manly appeal! I wish Leo DiCaprio is not cast in the Leonardo DaVinci biopic -- Leo D shares his first name and maybe the Italian heritage, but given DaVinci's more classical looks and of course the strong intellectual curiosity and genius, I think Hugh wuld have been the more perfect casting! Will Hugh give Barnum a more respectable glow (over P.T.'s somewhat tarnished reputation for business practices) Jo
