WThe previous screen shot looks blurry so here is the quote from Dance Magazine: “When did you have the conversation of having Hugh tap in the finale of Music Man?
It certainly wasn’t the first idea. When I knew I had the combination of Hugh and Sutton Foster, I wanted to give them a moment together where they could dance just the two of them and let it rip without the constraints of having to stay in character. Marian, who is uptight in nature, is not a character that is open and free and dances easily.”

Definitely! Warren recognized that he had a precious asset in Sutton’s prowess for dance, especially for tap( Anything Goes, anyone ) And having worked with Hugh since Oklahoma!, followed by BackOnBway; 2014 Tonys & #tmtmts concert tour, he knew about Hugh’s affinity for dance…even if he trained HJ only during that special tap number in #tmtmts. The pandemic afforded Warren to hone Hugh’s tap dance skills. But the tap dance number in TMM was maybe a major offshoot of the month- long workshop of Sutton & others involved in the dance numbers as tested by Sutton & Max. Hugh was filming Reminiscence. then. That exploratory workshop was attended by then -producer Scott Rudin and director Jerry Zaks and it seemed the workshop might already indicate the creative direction that the revival was taking…that it would be dance-heavy! Rudin wanted a sure fire draw for his dream project TheMusicMan (it did take him 3 yrs to convince Hugh to do the role … and having worked with Carlyle in Hello,Dolly, he must have worked with Carlyle & Zaks to test a new dance oriented concept for the revival! Then they must have approached Sutton to take on the role of Marian. When Hugh completed Reminiscence, he had a workshop with Sutton & Carlyle presumably to keep him up-to-date on the dance-heavy creative vision for the show…After that came the long break caused by the pandemic…and Hugh/Warren used that time so HJ could become a very accomplished dancer! The tap dance finale has never been an integral part of the show! It’s a bonus for the audience…and seems an appropriate dance-oriented way of saying thanks to its audience! J

Still asking - Does anyone know why Marian is in a band uniform at the end? It's a kid's/school band. She's not even one of the teachers. It seems incongruous to me. Harold gets a "pass" as the ringleader - but why Marian? Never mind. I was looking, but I did not SEE.
The whole town is in uniform - the mayor, his wife, the barbershop quartet, Marcellus - EVERYBODY.
This would not be my choice, but no one consulted me. I'm over it.

Max acknowledging Hugh's praising his work as Standby --
Good to see how their relationship stands.

Looking good -- the rest ( assuming he only had a mild case of reinfection) must have done him good!

The casting of a big number of performers (including understudies, swings, standbys and even ensemble) is helping the show bridge the gaps that arise due to covid-19 infections!

After Sutton's bout with Covid late last year, we know that Hugh became infected. But I always wondered about Remy Auberjonois, as she plants a big kiss on him eight times a week. Because Remy's not a star, if he did contract the virus, it probably wouldn't have been reported on in the general or theater press. I wouldn't be too surprised if he is forced to miss some performances in a week's time or so. I hope not, though. He makes for a very irascible and entertaining anvil salesman.

Exec Producer Kate Horton must be so relieved that she can bank on a wide breadth and depth of talent in their cast!

On Hugh's Instagram Stories -- Hugh says that 21 cast members made their Broadway debuts on June 26, including Audrey Cardwell as Marian Paroo.
Wow, that is a large number of replacements! I did see Benjamin Pajak retained as Winthrop but I wonder how many of the kids had replacements?

Some confusion on whether the absence of Sutton Foster in any performance will automatically entitle the ticketholder to a cancellation/refund of his ticket.
The convention is that it can only be assumed if the performer's name is Above or Precedes the Title. This information can be found on the Cast Announcement on the Playbill of the show.
Thus,
I have no idea when this practice evolved.
