When Sutton said to Hugh "You chose Broadway!" - it wasn't meant simply as a lighthearted compliment.

If we go back to that time when former producer Scott Rudin was accused of unseemly behavior with his own staff... and the show hang on a balance -- it was Hugh Jackman's decision to stay with the show and helped regroup the show so it can be staged which proved to be the critical turning point! Without his decision to stay with the show, it is very unlikely that there would have been one! The show was premised on a major spectacular staging (remember the month-long workshops just to refine the extensive choreography?) because Hugh Jackman was not only a true triple-threat but is also Broadway's biggest draw at the box office!

It was a sincere acknowledgement from Sutton on what Hugh Jackman meant for the show! The show became the biggest hit of the 2021-2022 season!

I was at the show today and I was thinking about this before it started. Not only did he choose Broadway but you can tell he genuinely really really loves it, cares, and is committed. His attendance record was great—only out when he had COVID or for scheduled vacations—and not every celeb on Broadway (even though he comes from the theater) has that commitment. It’s easy to tell when a celeb chooses to do theater because they think it’ll be “fun” without truly understanding what they’re committing to—especially being a leader offstage.

You can tell everyone in that company had at least some kind of personal connection/relationship with him and Sutton, especially the children. You could feel the love between all of them (and that’s a BIG company) and I just felt so happy for the young people in the show who got the experience and were so lucky to get to work with Hugh and Sutton who just seem like genuinely kind, caring, and nice people who understood their roles as the leads of this show. There are so many young people on Broadway getting their asses kicked, being abused, or doing things they’d rather not do to make it in the industry, and it’s really nice to see them having a good experience with loving/caring adults (that hold power!) around them.

I was one of those Ozalots too, back in 2003/2004 - saw the Boy From Oz twice from 2nd row front & center and later with my daughter in 3rd row, stage right. I’m friends (in real life!) with Ellen & Fern. Only online with Annette (and have seen her in the audience of various NYC talk shows when Hugh was a guest!)
Just couldn’t afford this year to go see The Music Man. ☹️ I took 2 other expensive vacations that had been postponed/rescheduled since 2020!
