There is talk of the Nicole Scherzinger version of Sunset Boulevard transferring to Broadway.

As much as I want an Audra Mama Rose, bringing it in the same season as Sunset Boulevard would be an insane move. They are already engraving Nicole’s name on the Tony!

Same thought! And ditto anyone thinking of opening Smash. But I had the same thoughts when they announced Hugh Jackman in Music Man and he didn’t win…

Except unlike Hugh, I’ve actually seen Nicole and her performance is THAT GOOD

HughJackman's interpretation of the role of HaroldHill departed from the Preston template.Robert saw him as a brash-talking tent revival type of con man... while Hugh used his considerable charm to beguile the kids& the town. Each one suited his approach to his natural ability.

I've seen the movie w/ Gloria Swanson, the show w/ BettyBuckley&ElainePaige...& seen clips of how GlennClose interpreted the songs. Is the Nicole interpretation closer to the Swanson madwoman Norma or is it just Nicole's powerhouse singing that stands out?

I have literally never seen Sunset before (other than the film). But being a great performer is not about whether or not they can capture what’s already been done so frankly I think it’s irrelevant

But a performance can also be judged by how the audience reacts to how the performer tells the story.
The SB film is more of a satire so the acting is foremost but the musicalized shows lean a lot on the power of the ALW music.

I would have wanted a film remake when Barbra S was younger, as she would be the ideal Norma to me.

That almost happened in the early 2000's but she& ALW could not agree on artistic control ( I heard she wanted to direct the movie of the musicalized version of Wilder's movie). Also heard then that she wanted HughJackman as her Joe (HJ having done the Joe role on stage in AUS)❤️
