I think it’s great that Hugh Jackman came back as wolverine. He was and is bringing every attitude, . Style and beserker anger and many other attributes. To be honest I’d only go see a wolverine movie if he was playing the part. I don’t believe other actors out there could match or do better than Hugh Jackman.

I am sure this will be a good movie, but having a very popular character/actor returning like this has got to make any upcoming reboot/relaunch of the Xmen franchise more complicated for Marvel

Feige is a guy who had a lot of success but he’s human. Just like the Russo brothers. They get things wrong. Marvel’s problems are not what they state or admit. It’s not superhero fatigue and not generational divide. It is this main thing. They tried to be ahead of the curve they thought was happening. They tried to look ahead at the future and anticipate what direction society was headed and they got it wrong. The trends to the radical left in society do not represent a majority of the world and in fact a very small minority. They prioritized political statements and progressive movements over good story telling. Instead they should have realized that what makes good stories is the same as it’s been for thousands of years.

Feige is a fool he also said Downey should never return as Iron Man but that’s now a done deal he will be back as Tony Stark in the next two Avengers Secret Wars movies he will return as a multiverse alternate Tony Stark and that’s a smart and necessary business movie for Disney Marvel to make even if Feige is against it.

Well to be fair, the Logan from Logan isn’t the same character as the one in other X-Men films – there’s nothing they could do really to undo that ending.

The other X-men films are the faulty memories of the Xavier featured in Logan, so those are all part of the same timeline.

Yeah, that happened in the Old Man Logan timeline. To my knowledge, only The Gifted also took place in that same timeline, but I mentally checked out before that, and I never saw The New Mutants. His departure was always reversible. That was the whole point of Days of Future Past.

It’s funny for Feige to say something about undo a satisfying ending when “Logan” did exactly that to Days of Future Past. DoFP was a dark movie that had things end on a happy note whereas Logan was bleak and ended with his death. Both are among the best movies in the genre, but if I wanted either of those to close the X-men story, it would definitely be Days of Future Past.

The latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer digs a little deeper into the upcoming film's story, showing off the apparent villain, Cassandra Nova, and several of the mutant cameos fans can expect along the way. But eagle-eyed viewers are also picking up on a trail of breadcrumbs in the trailer that may hint at Wolverine's place in the film, and even, perhaps, in the wider MCU beyond just Deadpool & Wolverine.

The trailer establishes that Deadpool is teaming up with an apparent Variant of Wolverine who is the last surviving X-Man of his universe, with both heroes recruited to take on Cassandra Nova, who threatens the entire Multiverse.

There are clues in the trailer pointing at a particular story from comics that may provide some direct influence on how Wolverine fits into Deadpool & Wolverine, and maybe even how Cassandra Nova could fit in - and that's the story of Old Man Logan, an aging version of Wolverine who is the last living X-Man, lost in a dystopian wasteland of a vastly altered Marvel Universe.


So what's the deal with Old Man Logan and his reality? And if that is the inspiration for Deadpool & Wolverine, how could that lead to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine potentially joining the larger MCU?

Who is Old Man Logan?

Old Man Logan is the version of Wolverine at the heart of the 2008 story of the same name by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven. Set in an alternate future reality, Old Man Logan tells the story of a much older Wolverine who lives with terrible guilt over the deaths of the other X-Men as he seeks some form of redemption for his violent past.

See, in the world of Old Man Logan, the bad guys actually won, and their victory managed to drag Wolverine down too.

As revealed in flashbacks throughout the story, Wolverine is the last living member of the X-Men, with the rest of the team dead at his own hands, with Logan having been tricked into killing his own teammates by Mysterio, who created an illusion so thorough it fooled all of his vaunted super-senses into believing he was actually fighting a group of supervillains.




Following the death of the X-Men, Logan retires the Wolverine moniker, sulking off to the Wastelands to hide from his sins and drown his guilt, refusing to use his claws or act as a hero ever again.

There in the Wastelands, Wolverine encounters the now blind archer Hawkeye, a group of inbred, monstrous Hulks, a Venom-possessed Tyrannosaurus Rex, and more strange, twisted, and changed versions of well-known Marvel characters, all while undertaking a journey that ends with him reclaiming his mantle as a hero.

If this is sounding a little bit familiar, aspects of Old Man Logan were adapted into the film Logan, which featured an older Wolverine as the last of the X-Men.

The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine shows off a version of Logan who, as in Old Man Logan, is seemingly on the run from his past, with all his allies in the X-Men long dead and gone. And though we're not expecting to see Mysterio show up to explain what happened to the X-Men, Marvel has an easy way to make the story more X-Men centric by substituting in Cassandra Nova and her extensive psychic powers as the villain who tricks Wolverine into killing his friends.

While some folks are speculating that there could be a connection to X-Men '97 and its depiction of the Genoshan genocide, which was carried out by Cassandra Nova in comics, it's just as possible that she'll have a slightly different role in the MCU which could tie directly into the deaths of the X-Men.

Old Man Logan's involvement in the Marvel Universe doesn't end with the original story. In fact, Old Man Logan has direct ties to 2015's Secret Wars, the same story that provides inspiration for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie.

In fact, given what happens to Old Man Logan as a result of Secret Wars, adapting his comic book story could potentially even offer a window to bring him into the mainstream MCU when the Multiverse-spanning movie is all said and done.

In Secret Wars, Doctor Doom uses the combined power of his magic and science to save the Multiverse from omnipotent extra-terrestrials, remaking the Marvel Universe into a reality known as Battleworld, made up of bits and pieces of different worlds from around the Multiverse.




One of the realities that makes up Battleworld is the Wasteland of Old Man Logan, bringing the character back for a new adventure set in the timeline of Secret Wars. But at the end of the story, when the Multiverse is remade and set right, rather than returning to the Wasteland, Old Man Logan actually winds up in the core Marvel Universe reality.

At the time, the mainstream Wolverine was dead (or at least as dead as he gets, encased in adamantium), leaving a place on the X-Men for Old Man Logan to step in as the team's resident berserker, while Laura Kinney, Logan's clone, takes up the name Wolverine.

Old Man Logan wound up staying in the mainstream Marvel Universe for several years, working to prevent the events that could lead to his dystopian future from coming to pass, even starring in his own solo title that ran for 50 issues.

He then finally returns home in a time portal built by Forge, going on to assemble the few heroes who are left in the Wasteland into a new Avengers team, rekindling hope for the people of the dystopian world.

With Avengers: Secret Wars supposedly aiming to pay off the current Multiverse Saga era of the MCU, and rumors swirling about how it could rewrite or reboot aspects of the MCU, it doesn't seem far from the realm of possibility that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine could appear in Secret Wars, if not even beyond that.

We'll find out more when Deadpool & Wolverine releases in July.

Not too many people know that Feige was an assistant of Producer LSDonner when Hugh Jackman played the role of Wolverine in the very first XMen movie. His casting was initially met with controversy given how different he was from the comicbook hero. But Jackman did become the star of the movie…which led to the rejuvenation of the moribund superhero genre ( arguably the best-selling genre today). Feige was supposed to be involved in publicity then, not in the creative process. But because of the success of that movie, his fortunes also changed and he eventually became an Associate Producer for Marvel, leading to his rise to President today. Has he lost faith in Jackman’s ability to break new grounds again… after his success in portraying arguably the best superhero movie to-date?

For whatever it's worth -- a bystander's views


This time, it is Hugh Jackman directly who is involved in the argument with Joy Behar!

The irony is that in the past - HJ was always a favorite in The View -- initially with Barbara Walters...and later on with Joy Behar!

I guess the contentious issue of FORCED DEI was the major issue. And after all that had gone before, it would be awkward for Hugh to appear on the show even without the issue of DEI.

As rumored, Disney was trying to incorporate a female Wolverine in the third act of the movie... who would supposedly fight & defeat Hugh's Wolverine. True or not - that sounds like destroying the image of the uber-masculine Wolverine? Laura or X-23 was different because she was Wolverine's progeny.  Hopefully, if there will be cameos or a brief appearance, Laura would be the female clawed mutant fighting beside her Dad ( how they would do that - lol - it will go against the story of Logan because she was only 11 or so yrs old into the future ). Or is the Wolverine in "Deadpool & Wolverine" supposed to be a variant Wolverine from another time and place??

Given that Kevin Feige has been reported to have discouraged Hugh Jackman from returning as Wolverine - people wonder what was behind that negative view --

After all --

*they worked together in the first XMen movie ... which was very successful and was very well-received ( despite the controversy about the hiring of HJ as Wolverine) -- so much so that it has now been generally acknowledged as rejuvenating the moribund superhero genre.

*Feige also admired LOGAN which has emerged as the arguably the best superhero movie ever made, so much so that it is said to have inspired the Stark treatment in ENDGAME. And Hugh was excellent in this drama cum action portrayal of the aging Wolverine.

*Now that HJ is breaking new grounds again -- Feige seems to have lost confidence in Hugh's ability to deliver the movie?

Where is the faith??

Unless he has an agenda?? I did not know it but as early as 2020, Feige was batting heavily for DEI. Nothing wrong with that if he wants to implement a DEI orientation where appropriate..

but to force it -- and not a female with adamantium claws such as Lady Deathstrike (XMen 2) -- but a female Wolverine persona - hmm... is this why he is discouraging a supposedly good friend & associate from returning to his career-defining role??

Maybe Feige simply wants to create as many opportunities to be able to continue making movies - by transposing every hero and heroine to the opposite gender ( or trans) and race?

Director Shawn Levy tells EW he and Ryan Reynolds originally had ideas that "were more sequelly to the first two 'Deadpools.'"

Ryan Reynolds and his Free Guy director, Shawn Levy, have been formulating their plan for a third Deadpool movie since their time making 2022's The Adam Project. But their brainstorming took a sharp left turn when Reynolds got a phone call from an old pal.

"Everything changed radically on the day that Hugh called Ryan," Levy tells Entertainment Weekly, referring to Hugh Jackman. "We had been workshopping a lot of ideas about possible stories for a third Deadpool movie. Those were story ideas that were more sequelly to the first two Deadpools, but None of them imagined such a seismic shift. I can safely say that the story completely changed and, in fact, came to us very, very quickly starting that day."

It also didn't hurt that Levy is also friends with Jackman. The two worked together on 2011's Real Steel, 2014's Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and 2021's Free Guy.

Now, for the first time since 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman are sharing the screen as their characters from Marvel comics, Deadpool and Wolverine — hence the straightforward title of the film (in theaters July 26). This is also the first time both figures are bringing their R-rated antics to Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe of the Avengers. After hanging up his katanas and red-leather suit, Wade Wilson (Reynolds) is prepared to live the simple life. But when the Time Variance Authority, the multiverse organization dedicated to protecting the sacred timeline, plucks him out of his reality, Wade realizes he still has a greater purpose.

Appearing in nine X-Men films already as the adamantium-clawed berserker, Jackman seemed content to retire the character after 2017's Logan, which offered a finite ending to his story. Though, fans — including Reynolds — always held out hope of seeing Wade and Logan together for a proper film after Origins, which even the actors poke fun of on occasion. "Everyone assumed that Hugh's return was the result of me or Ryan pestering or pitching him relentlessly," Levy says. "But even more miraculously, this was the result of a Hugh Jackman epiphany. He wanted to do this team-up of Logan and Deadpool, and so it really was a sky-opening gift from the heavens type of phone call that changed everything."


Deadpool and Wolverine finds a version of Logan who "let down his entire world," as Mr. Paradox (Succession's Matthew Macfadyen) intones in the film's trailers. "This is still Wade dealing with certain issues, but it's very much two characters, two heroes, and two haunted men hoisted together in a shared journey," Levy adds.

There are a number of other characters who surround both Wade and Logan on their odyssey — some we know, some we don't (at least, not officially). Emmy nominee Emma Corrin (The Crown, Murder at the End of the World) arrives on the scene as Cassandra Nova, an immensely powerful psychic who's also sort of but not quite the twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men as portrayed in past films by both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy. A bunch of familiar faces from the past two Deadpool movies also make comebacks: Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), Peter/Sugar Bear (Rob Delaney), Dopinder (Karan Soni), and Shatterstar (Lewis Tan).

Then there are those roles that have been leaked, either in the press or by paparazzi, which Levy declines to comment on. One name he does acknowledge is Aaron Stanford, who's back as the fire-wielding mutant Pyro after playing the character in 2003's X2 and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. Fans first caught a glimpse in the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer that arrived at the Super Bowl.

"I'll say we didn't start off with a wishlist," Levy says of all these special appearances. "From the day we started devising this Deadpool and Wolverine story, we let the story dictate the characters, not the other way around. Aaron and his return as Pyro was an outgrowth of that, and that applies to pretty much all the characters you'll see in the movie."


Despite the massive ensemble packed into this multiverse-hopping, F-bomb-dropping, fourth wall-shattering extravaganza, the filmmaker emphasizes this is a true two-hander between Reynolds and Jackman. "As a two-hander, oil-and-water story, this movie draws inspiration from the great films in that genre," he says. "That means everything from Midnight Run [1988] and 48 Hours [1982] to Rain Man [1988] and Planes, Trains and Automobiles [1987], these quests that pair a duo of mismatched characters. The joy we get as an audience watching that relationship evolve."

There are many remarkable things about Deadpool & Wolverine. For one, it marks the MCU’s first serious foray into formerly Fox-owned mutant territory. It’s certainly the first Marvel movie ever to, um, feature gags about pegging. But even more notable than either of those things, it’s the only Marvel Studios film set to arrive in cinemas in 2024 full-stop. Post-pandemic – and in the wake of the box office-sweeping high of Avengers: Endgame – Marvel has struggled to reach audiences on a scale it used to, with recent films like Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels seriously underperforming. Factor in the overwhelming volume of Marvel stories that have been in the works across cinematic releases and streaming series, and the powers that be declared a rethink.

That included dialling down the number of Marvel projects for audiences to digest – hence, Deadpool & Wolverine is the only MCU movie to land this year. “It’s been a rough time,” Louis D’Esposito, Co-President of Marvel Studios, admits to Empire in the world-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine issue. However, he sees Wade Wilson’s mutant team-up threequel as a sign of things getting back on track. “If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit, we’re coming back strong.” That less-is-more ethos looks set to continue in years to come. “Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit,” says D’Esposito. “We’re not going to do that anymore. We learned our lesson. Maybe two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows.”


For Marvel boss Kevin Feige, he’s seeing the positive side of the MCU being on the back-foot again – after all, back in Phase 1, that’s exactly where they began. “It’s nice to be able to rally behind one feature project this year,” he tells Empire. “I’m much more comfortable being the underdog. I prefer being able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has set us up well for that.”

With Deadpool professing himself to be ‘Marvel Jesus’ in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, it’s clearly time for a resurrection. “Some of the lines that Ryan and his writers and Shawn worked on have taken on more of a meaning,” concedes Feige. Disappointing earnings forecast for theme parks raises questions about demand trends for key profit source

Disney delivered a mixed fiscal second-quarter report Tuesday morning, barely a month after defeating a proxy challenge from the famed investor activist who had sharply criticized the company’s performance of late. The results themselves contained several positive points, including a surprising and first-ever operating profit from the entertainment portion of the company’s streaming segment and a pickup in revenue growth at the domestic ESPN business.

But Disney also said in its earnings release that operating income for its Experiences segment, which consists mainly of theme parks, will be flat in the June quarter. That disappointed analysts who had projected a 12% gain year-over-year in operating income for that segment, according to consensus forecasts from FactSet. In the company’s conference call, Disney Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston noted that “some normalization of post-Covid demand” was a factor in the forecast.


Disney’s shares sank about 10% in Tuesday trading. The outlook on parks raises worries about slowing demand in a business that Disney badly needs to keep strong. Cord-cutting has shrunk the company’s cable-TV empire, while its theatrical movie business is facing an array of challenges ranging from the lingering effects of last year’s crippling Hollywood strikes to the weakening of its high profile Marvel and “Star Wars” franchises. The transition to streaming also has been costly, with the direct-to-consumer segment racking up more than $1 billion in trailing 12-month operating losses, notwithstanding the latest quarter’s surprise earnings.


Theme parks are thus now a key source of stable revenue. They also make an outsize contribution to Disney’s bottom line. The segment benefited greatly from a spike in demand starting in late 2021 as Covid-era travel restrictions eased and consumers were flush with extra spending funds. Combined revenue from domestic and international theme parks accounted for 52% of the company’s total operating profit over the 12-month period ended with the March quarter despite bringing in only a third of the company’s revenue in that time.

So naturally concerns about theme parks tend to weigh heavily on Disney’s investors. The stock’s drop on Tuesday is shaping up to be the worst single-day loss since November 2022, when a disastrous earnings report sparked a selloff of more than 13% and ultimately cost then Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek his job.


Disappointing theme park earnings played a role in that report as well; operating earnings for the parks segment fell 27% short of Wall Street’s targets back then. Returning CEO Bob Iger noted in his first earnings call three months later that “I’m very, very bullish about our parks, and not just because of the COVID recovery.” The company later announced plans for $60 billion in capital expenditures on parks, cruise lines and resorts over the next decade. The investment will be timely; Universal is opening a major new theme park near Disney’s flagship property in Florida next year.

Iger said Tuesday that one-time costs such as pre-opening expenses for its new Disney Treasure and Adventure cruise ships are the biggest factor weighing on near-term earnings for the parks segment, with bookings showing “healthy growth in the business.” But Disney’s stock came into Tuesday’s report rather hot, with a year-to-date gain of 29% that was well ahead of any of its peers, including Netflix NFLX 1.51%increase; green up pointing triangle. The stock’s strong performance helped the company beat back Peltz’s criticisms but it also left little room for error in the latest results.

The Magic Kingdom will need to show it can keep the treasure flowing in.

It becomes even more imperative for Marvel which is limiting its film release in 2024 to only Deadpool & Wolverine to allow a wider rein for the creatives to complete the movie...and not to interfere with its final processes. It is rumored that the reshoots will undo some of the creative decisions and put in Disney's viewpoint instead. The R-rated 2 Deadpool movies and the R-rated LOGAN all did very well at the box office - -and since both Ryan & Hugh are back for the Disney movie, why not give them the benefit of the doubt? Or are Iger & Feige too hardheaded to recognize that they may not have a monopoly of making audience-pleasing movies?

Maybe even more imperative to allow the creatives (writers&director&actors) of sole Marvel film release (Deadpool&Wolverine) more leeway in completing the movie? The 2 Deadpool films & Logan, all R-rated, were very successful at the box office -why not allow full creativity to the team?

It’s crazy to me that people say Hugh Jackman doesn’t want to do this yet every behind the scenes image is him smiling and laughing

It’s just called good acting if he actually made you think he’s depressed and hates doing it
