Re casinos --

When I was still working ( technology was under my wing), I was once sent to Nice for a seminar re bank technology. We were billeted at one of the hi-tech seminar sponsor training facilities, somewhere in hilly south of France near the famous art colony of St Paul de Vence. I had a room with a balcony with stunning views of the south of France.

One of the seminar speakers was a senior officer from an Italian bank who was joined by his wife. I became friends with a few male officers from the same bank, After our plush dinner, the male officers asked me if I would like to join them ( and the senior officer) because they wanted to go to Monte Carlo in the evening for some gambling. Since the senior officer's wife would be there, too - I decided to join them.

Arghh... they drove down the famous hilly roads from Nice (the scene of Pricness Grace Kelly's infamous accident) down to Monte Carlo as if they don't believe in speeding limits -- and we arrived in Monte Carlo at around 1:00 am in the early dawn hours. In Monte Carlo, there are many casinos -- but we went to the famous one. I have been there only once, but only outside where tourists see the slot machines. They said we would go in to the inner sanctum ( and needed to pay more). So, I went -- I was dressed in a formal suit...but the ladies inside were like the movies - many in gowns, just like the ladies met by James Bond. I do not gamble and do not know how -- but I watched the roulette, manned by 3 people. Yikes, everything was played in silence and lots of money changed hands.

After a while, the guys said it was not exciting over there -- they said it might be best to drive over to Italy ( we were near the border) for more gambling. I told them I do not have a visa to Italy and also, I might not be able to go back to Nice, if they did that. So, they acceded to me and we went back to our seminar place. LOL!

I did not meet Patch (aka Wolverine aka Hugh Jackman)!

Maybe many were bothered that "Patch" from a Wolverine episode called Madripur was being misrepresented by photos of Daniel & Taron wearing dinner clothes and seated at a gambling table...that they decided to clarify that in the supposed 2nd trailer??

Deadpool is a very successful R-Rated superhero franchise, and the new one has Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in a title role.

Believe me, I’d love for Dune to be very successful.

Getting Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine in the third “Deadpool” movie had been in the works long before Ryan Reynolds made the official announcement.

In fact, Karan Soni, who plays Dopinder in all three movies, says he wasn’t shocked when Jackman joined franchise. “When we were making the second one, Ryan was plotting back then,” Soni told me Monday at the South Asians at the Oscar party on the Paramount lot. “I remember him spilling that at lunch one day that he had started a conversation with Hugh. I remember saying, ‘People are going to flip out!’ Then the studio got sold to Disney and a lot of other stuff happened. But, of course, Ryan followed through because it was dream casting.”

“Deadpool and Wolverine” marks Jackman’s return as the iconic character after he died in the 2017 film “Logan.” The Shawn Levy-directed Marvel Studios film wrapped last January in London after shooting was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It is set for release on July 26.

Soni was very careful about spilling too much – “This new MCU version is ultra-secretive,” he said – but teased that fans will be blown away by what else is included in the film. “There are a lot of surprises,” he said, adding, “Let’s just say a lot of people traveled to London.”

Several MCU cameos have been rumored, but little has been officially revealed. Variety confirmed in July that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as superhero Elektra almost two decades after her character’s solo debut.

Soni also recalled seeing Jackman on set for the first time, comparing it to the first time he saw Reynolds in the Deadpool suit. “He walks in and you’re just kind of staring at the person and you’re like, ‘OK, this is a movie star.’ He’s very kind, very nice and has such a presence.”

The cast also includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.

The first trailer for “Deadpool and Wolverine” broke the record for the most-viewed movie trailer within 24 hours with 356 million total views after it debuted during the Super Bowl last month. The previous record holder was “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021 with 355.5 million online views.

Wolverine had a colorful life.Not all stories have been told.Can't his adventures before he passed on in LOGAN be told to enrich his saga through the years? That is true for movies about historical persons.Telling more stories of their lives gives more meaning to their heritage.

Why was there a LINCOLN movie with DDLewis when every schoolboy and schoolgirl knew that Lincoln already fell by an assassin's bullet? And so it is for every historical figure whose other stories before they died are told even if their death has already been told in a past movie?

We are humans and we change our minds. It is said that Hugh realised he made a mistake when he saw a Deadpool movie & then recalled how it seemed that a parallel movie like 48 hours would have worked in a movie between Wolverine&Deadpool. He decided to call Ryan in Aug '23.

Hugh Jackman is not a one-genre actor. He has explored action/drama/dark comedy/romcom/sci-fi/biopics in his acting portfolio. Maybe trying a comedic movie plus action is something he wants to try now. He has made blockbusters&indies in the same breath!

Have you seen his BAD EDUCATION? It is a biopic in a dark comedy vein, where he plays a character much admired by the school he heads but at the same time he is a double-dealing administrator. Comedic & tragic at the same time.

A familial drama about adolescent depression. HJ plays both a father & a son who is unable to help his depressed boy, not realizing he is following the steps of his own neglectful father. Troubling & sad story & Hugh Jackman at his acting best!
