Not many would have the courage to take on the role of Jean Valjean in the dramatic musical Les Miserables.
True, Hugh Jackman did get an Oscar nomination & won a Golden Globe for his portrayal - but his performance as Valjean was the year's most outstanding portrayal. A look at his delivery of The Soliloquy would justify his Oscar moment. I wonder if his career-defining role of Wolverine had anything to do with his being snubbed time & again ( Prisoners/Prestige/Logan). Also, only Oscars host (2009) whose Opening Number received a standing ovation from his peers!
