Some of us have probably been fans of Anthony Warlow for some time now! He is now on Broadway, at last, in a show he has also played in in his native Australia ( ANNIE). Here's an interview with him -- www.broadway.com/buzz/164931/anthony-warlow-on-how-cancer-strengthened-his-performance-in-phantom-and-being-the-heart-of-annie/I had a chance to see him play the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance at the Sydney Opera House. He was wonderful and chaneled Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow ;D... I remember reading about how Hugh was profuse in his praise when he saw the same show ( that was the time of TBFO-Australia) ...He was also such a nice person at the stagedoor. He has some wonderful music albums - my favorites are from musical theatre! He is a crossover from the world of opera to musical theatre - and he does sing wonderfully. And if you have the COMPLETE SYMPHONIC RECORDING of Les Miserables -- he does sing the role of Enjolras there! Jo

I have heard him on disk, and he has indeed a sonorous, rich voice. He'd be the only reason I'd consider seeing the current production of ANNIE, just so I could see him in person once. I'm mulling that one over now.

What a mop of hair--and he was so young then. But it was a good trade--the chemo saved his life.

In his first or two CDs, there were pictures of Anthony with his full mop of hair...and there was also a bit on how he crossed over from the world of opera to musical theatre.
I honestly think he would have been a greater attraction if they had revived Pirates of Penzance with him on it than letting him make his Broadway debut in Annie. I have not seen that particular production but I have seen maybe 2 film or filmed interpretations of Annie -- and I think a true lead role for Anthony's talents would have served Broadway audiences better!

I know. His voice just knocks me out. :o
He is one of my very few "gotta have" artists. No need to hear a CD of his to decide if I like it or not. I buy - and LOVE - them all. ...and he's a very good actor, and not a bad dancer. He recently did a production of Zhivago (the musical) Down Under. Wish he were more the "star" of something/anything, rather than a supporting role in Annie. No matter. If I can get there, I will definitely see him... it's so much closer than Sydney. ;D
